THis book is helpful, especially when it came to doing the financials for my business plan. Some of the sample forms needed to be a bit larger, but besides that, an excellent choice for a beginning retailer.

"I recommend The Guide to Selling Your Music in the iTunes Music Store, a well-written, friendly book by Simon Higgs".

"I'd recommend that you or your label buy Higgs's guide and submit songs on your own since wending your way through Apple's requisite maze of forms without some form of guidance would be tough."

Getting through the distribution maze
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-24
The main obstacle to successful music sales is distribution. Getting your music into the retail stores can be a trying experience. Most of the major retail stores use major distributors which require a deal with a major label. The majority of music that is made is released by "Indie Labels" who don't have access to these distribution channels. Sometimes the artist and the label is the same person or group of people. What can they do to sell their music?

This is where the on-line music stores can bridge that distribution gap. The guide takes you through the application and submission process for the iTunes Music Store and shows the way through some of the paperwork. If you have a viable music product to sell and have the business savvy to work with Apple, a Fortune 500 company, within their guidelines, then this book explains everything you need to know to successfully sell your music in the iTunes Music Store.

As a New Englander, I need what sunshine I can get and this book has it with its marvelous range of the Gulf's Cuban/Italian/Creole/Mexican/Vietnamese flavors. I particularly love that the recipes are adaptable to what I can find here, and the beautiful photos are a plus (and an inspiration) as well.

I love to read cookbooks as well as use them. Gulf Coast Kitchens is engaging and fun to read. It is well researched with lots of interesting vignettes. The writing is colorful and lively. The recipes are a good mix of down-home and exotic dishes.

Easy fixings are a priority for me. Gulf Costs Kitchen's simple instructions with tips for advance preparation makes each recipe a dream.

I have already given several books as gifts. If you try it, you will love it, too!

Interesting chronicle of the rise and fall of a family store
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1998-01-10
Halle Brothers was a Cleveland institution. It was, like many family-owned department stores, a vital player in the city's history. As the city grew, so did Halle Brothers. Author James Wood paints an interesting, vivid portrait of a store, the likes of which, are rarely seen in today's world of "cookie cutter" chains.

Halle's was Cleveland retail.

If you were a Clevelander in the 50's and 60's and wanted to shop in style, Halle's was your store. This book refreshes the memories of those who had the pleasure of shopping this retail institution while it told how a family of merchants experienced the successes and ultimate failure of a Cleveland retail icon.

If you are not a Clevelander, this book gives great detail of what "carriage trade" retail was and what happened to it.

Good reading, lots of memories, good fun.

The need for the subject is enormous. We get so contributed by the book. We believe in respecting the human as a whole entity. The body reflects so much of our being that we need to understand and assess the meaning of the book. Let hope that an updated book will come soon. The conecction of mind and body reflects what is going on with the sociaty body and we need it very very much. Thank you.

When I first heard about this book from a friend, I thought that it was most likely 'Junk Science'. I was very happy to find that it is truly a valuable book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is facing a serious illness. I think it is important to note that this book is not an alternative medicine philosophy book. I prefer to base my scientific beliefs on objective evidence

As a parent, I had no idea where to start in terms of my children's nutrition and or researching dietary guidelines. This book is a great start. It also covers information on pregnancy, child athletes, and eating disorders. This is a must, for any parent.

This book is really great! I like it because it addresses my questions as a Vegetarian, but isnt strictly so. It's for everyone. Most of the books out there dont go so far as to tell you about nutrition, and mainly give recipies and are mostly for meat eating diets. My son hates vegetables, and is a picky eater and I found that this book helped me with those issues instead of glossing over it and then providing recipies with veggies and things he wouldnt like anyway. The recipies are really good, and easy to prepare. Healthy and tasty, to boot.
I reccomend this book to anyone, no matter your diet. Its easy to read and very informative. If you have a baby, I would reccomend 'Super Baby Food' by Ruth Yaron to go with this.
These to books are awesome if you want your children and yourself to eat health consiously.

Just for fun, I wanted to see if this book, which specifically cites Amazon.com as one of the main reason independent bookstores are going under as early as page 2, would be listed....

Great book if you are interested in the subject. Go ask your local bookstore to order it for you. I myself found it at an independent used bookstore. Pretty fitting.

How to Store Your Garden Produce

Fantastic for any gardener
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-08
Piers Warren starts off with basic instructions for storage methods: clamping (storing large quantities of roots outside) and other methods of dry storage, freezing, drying (from oven to dehydrator), vacuum-packing, salting, bottling/canning, pickling, relishes & sauces, jams & jellies, and fermenting. This volume isn't meant as a full-blown wine-making or jam-making resource, so these are only the most basic instructions.

The rest of the book covers individual types of produce in alphabetical order. Since the focus of this book is supporting yourself on your own produce, Warren discusses some topics you might not expect. For instance, how best to harvest a vegetable so as to encourage further harvest throughout the season. He discusses varieties that will have longer harvest times, or that will produce during different times of the year. He talks about how some plants can be started at different times so as to result in a longer harvest period as well.

One potentially useful feature is the section of recommended varieties. For example, the apples section lists out two good varieties of cooking apples, a crab apple, and a handful of eating apples, noting which ones keep particularly well or work best for wine-making or the like. However, in some cases this won't be as useful outside of Britain (the book was written & published in Britain but is also being distributed in other countries). For instance, I don't recognize many of the apple or tomato varieties. However, I do recognize a number of the carrot and chard varieties. It just depends on whether a particular type is available & grows well where you are.

The one other small potential snag is a couple of terminology issues. Most of them aren't a big deal (what US readers call canning, Brits call bottling, but the author notes this). One or two types of produce might be listed under a name unfamiliar to you (plenty of people have heard eggplants called aubergines, but not everyone in the US knows them by that term). Don't let this deter you from buying this book if you're in the US, however---the information is incredibly useful, and in most cases there are enough informative notes included that you can substitute varieties as appropriate or easily figure out the terminology differences. Also, all measurements for recipes and such are given in both metric and English measurements.

If you want to become more self-sufficient, or you just want to make better and less wasteful use of your garden produce, I definitely recommend this book.

Excellent Reference Book

This unusual book saves so much time trawling through all my old gardening books looking for storage techniques for various vegetables and fruit. I use it a lot and have also given it to friends as presents and they are very pleased too! Highly recommended.
