I found this to be a great book for anyone who needs to know anything about the relationship between drugs and the person using the drugs. I have also read Dr. Fisher's newest book Rethinking our War on Drugs (Candid Talk about controversial issues) I found that book even better then this book. I would say anyone should read both books. I had the chance to meet Dr. Fisher and I had him sign my copy of both this book and the War on Drugs.

This book clearly explains the relationship an addict has with their drug of choice, so that someone who may never have used/abused can understand the seemingly irrational behavior of the addict. But, the author does not stop there. Harrison goes on to explain various reasons why the addict's family may knowingly or unknowingly support the addict's habit, thus keeping the addict from recovery.

Houseplants for Everyone
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-11
I just love this book. I can't imagine having houseplants without it. I have it all marked with the Post-it flags so I can find my plants quickly. I'm going to get a little wordy here, but this is a great book with a lot of great features. I use it more that any of the other plant books I own.

The book has 4 sections: Introduction, The Color Plates, Encyclopedia of Houseplants and Appendices. The introduction runs you through the basics. It gives you a botany lesson that is neither too detailed nor too short. It gives the basics of the book. It tells you how to care for your plants (from water to reviving to saying good-bye to repotting when your plants out grow their current container) and how to propagate and have MORE plants. The Introduction also has a Plant Chart that shows you all the things you need to have healthy happy plants in one convenient easy to read chart. The only catch to using the Plant Chart is knowing the scientific names of your plants.

Don't know the name of your plant (let ALONE the scientific name!)? No problem, just look at The Color Plates. These pictures are wonderful. I have identified MANY of my plants with these pictures. Sorted into sections by type (Hanging Plants, Small Foliage Plants, Orchids, Bromeliads & Flowers, Showy Foliage Plants, Lacy Leaves, and Succulent & Other, you are sure to be able to find your plant quickly. The pictures show something that you would see in someone's house. If the plant flowers they will show it with the flowers (just so you can see it). The scientific name, the common name, plant height, light, temperature, how easy the plant is to grow, and the Encyclopedia section page reference.

The Encyclopedia of Houseplants has a short biography of the plant, How to Grow and Species information. I wish this section was combined with the pictures, but since many plants have many species - one encyclopedia reference may have several pictures. This section gives good information on how to grow your plant. It tells you if you plant likes to have a lot or little sun, a lot or little water, when to water, what kind of soil to use, and when and what kind of fertilizer to use. It also gives you a description (average size, flowering potential, foliage coloration, etc.) of the most popular species and a small black and white drawing.

The Appendices include sections on Orchids, Decorating with Plants, Buying Plants, Pest and Problems, Glossary and Index. The Orchid section tells you all about orchids and how to get more information on them (I haven't read this part). The Decorating with Plants give you tips on where to place your plants, how to use your plants, and give you tips and ideas on using a group of plants together. The Buying Plants section tells you what to look for when you shop for your plants. Pest and Problems is a handy section that gives you a background on pest and plants diseases. It tells you how to control the problems and how to recognized signs of plant distress. It has a handy chart with black and white drawings. The chart tells you the pest/disease name, a description of the pest or disease, the damage the pest can do and how to control the pest or disease. This is a very handy section (hopefully you won't ever have to use it) and I suggest reading it. The Glossary is a handy list of terms used through out the book. Last but not least is the index of both common and scientific names of the plants.

An excellent & concise houseplant reference.

An excellent & concise houseplant reference. It will show you what is commonly done wrong with plants and what you can to to promote growth/flowering. Also included is a cross reference for temperatures and other environmental variables that you may wish to choose plants for. There are also many good quality pictures that can help you immediately identify 'that plant you've killed over & over' and a reference to the instructions that can make the difference. Good book.

Great book to have at hand

With the literally thousands of different types and varieties of houseplants available on the market, it's no surprise that there are some that are missing from this book. However, most (all?) of the main ones are here, and so too is a wealth of information on how to grow them. I bought this book 10 or 15 years ago, and it helped me go from perennial plant killer (it was the killing that was perennial, not just perennials that were killed), to a reasonably green thumb. I'm not a super gardener or anything. I just like houseplants and needed some basic info on how to care for them. It's all here.

I was very impressed with "Through Footless Halls of Air", and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading about history. Despite the fact that Canadians feature prominently in the book, I believe that people from other countries could also benefit from reading it. My compliments to the author.

A new printing of Through Footless Halls of Air will be off the press in plenty of time for Christmas shopping. With a newly designed cover that maintains the colourful painting of a Lancaster bomber, there will also be several excerpts from the hundreds of reviews that have been published over the past three years.Inside the book will be a page of excerpts from hundreds of letters that the author received from around the world, including those from individuals actually involved with the stories that unfold in the book's six chapters. The 311 pages and photos mark this book as one of the more personal vehicles yet available in which the stories of those who made the supreme sacrifice have been told. If you have already read this book in its earlier edition, you will surely want to share this new new printing with friends and acquaintances interested in Second World War aerial history. Encourage them to read about those who flew in the Hampden and Wellington bombers, the Halifax and Lancasters, the Spitfires and Hurricane fighter aircraft.Share with them the courage of an RAF flight engineer who climbed out onto the wing of a Lancaster flying over Germany, in an attempt to extinguish a fire in the engine. Follow his plight as he falls off the wing while being attacked by a night fighter, and survives.Share with them the events that took the lives of more than 600 airmen (RAF,RCAF, RAAF, RNZAF and others) including 113 Canadians and Americans, on that infamous Nuremberg raid of March 30-31, 1944.They can also read about the sacrifice of my two brothers.Did all of these young airmen die in vain? You be the judge.Earlier editions of Through Footless Halls of Air have sold out quite quickly. Don't miss it.

This is a very touching and insightful look into the lives of those young Canadians who made the Supreme Sacrifice. In each chapter the author gives you sense of knowing the individuals he writes about. He seems to have the ability to get you to come to the realization of just how much these young men were willing to give so that we might have a future of peace. If you are interested in the ordinary everyday individual who was willing to give his all, then this is just such a book.

I have been a Jim Rohn fan for over 20 years. His wisdom is priceless. I am a Real Estate broker and a Toastmaster. These quotes supply me with very good speaking material. The motivation and practical wisdom I receive from Jim Rohn keeps me headed in the right direction in my business. If you never have read or heard Jim Rohn, you owe it to yourself to invest in his books and tapes.

This is the nearest "how to navigate and succeed" guide I can find. Too bad we're not born with a self-help how to live life booklet, but Jim Rohn has complied a book of quotes that will help anyone at anytime. I bought one for my son and daughter and assured them that if they seriously studied this book, they would be better prepared to handle what life will throw at them. I recommend this book to any serious student of life, especially his/her own.

I stumbed on this book after purchasing the Weekend Seminar by Jim Rohn on CD ROM. I had heard of Jim from other speakers like Tony Robbins but until now hadn't bothered to listen to any of his material. I found that his CD was just chock full of material and purchased this book as an abbreviated reference to many of his quotes.

Jim is more focussed on the business and financial aspect of self help -- although his advice does cross into different areas.

Highly recommended reading -- and you might also want to check out the Weekend Seminar CD set as well.

Diapers and noisy kids... ah reality comics!

I'm a father of 4 kids.

When we started following Baby Blues, we can relate to it. It grew with us from 1 girl, to 1 girl & 1 boy. This complilation sees the family grow from 2 kids to 3; 2 girls and a boy... when this happened, it mirrored our family...

In short this is reality comic at its best... I haven't seen anything fiction in this series.

Our eldest just reached her teens... we had also been following Scott's other series (Zits), a good companion to a growing family's collection.

:)

Buy it, you'll love it.

This is the best book on herbalism I have ever seen. It is for the novice as well as advanced practictioners. The author classifies most if not all herbs under various healing properties such as blood cleansers, germ killers, etc. This is very helpful. He also gives a balanced diet one should follow to maintain excellent health. The book is logical, well written and in depth. A masterpiece.

This is the best herb book around. Mostly when an herb book is written, an author will gather information on different herbs and write them in a book Michael Tiera is different. He has used all of these herbs himself. He has studied with native cultures and writes from experience. He uses Chinese medicine and herbs. He uses American herbs. He also uses Ayervedic techniques. He treats the whole body and not just the symptoms. This book is broken down in an easy to use method. He will list an herb and all of it's properties and how it is used.

Definately one of the best in the series. My favorite part of the book was the focus on child labor. It was quite appalling to see how children were abused as factory laborors (however it was tastefully done). A great addition to any children's l;brary.

The book gives a good look at all sorts of things like toys, clothes, games, technology, as well as all other aspects of Victorian life! A very nicely written book about growing up in the Victorian era, I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to see what life was like back in 1904!

I use this book in my classroom as a reference book. It contains plenty of information about toys, dolls, games, and the things that children do at different stages of American History. The students enjoy this series, as most history text books do not focus on children's activities of a time period.

I've been reading this book to my 15-month-old baby since he was still in my tummy. This book makes him laugh and gives him a great comfort too. He even imitates the way I read the stories. So funny! My husband and I incorporate melodies to the words to sing as lullabies to our baby. What a wonderful book!

In addition to the daily devotional there is also a section towards the end of the bible that also offers many scripture to help cope with: discouragment, worry, grief, anger, patience amongst many other feelings that we experience through this journey called life. I highly reccommend this bible and I hope that it is as much of a blessing to you as it has been to me!

I have recently purchased the Women of Faith Devotional Bible. Recently I started reading a new christian fiction author, Colleen Coble. I noticed that her book said she belonged to the women of faith. I went to the website and discovered that this is a group of christian fiction authors. I joined the book club, and later found this devotional bible for sale in a local book store. I checked on amazon, and I had to order it. The version I ordered is the NKJV, which follows very closely to KJV. I highly recommend this to anyone needing daily devotional. God bless and keep you all!
