Shhhhh--I'm A Closet Royal Watcher

I can't help it. I like the gossip, the scandals, all the fal-de-ral with Royal watching. Not just the Brits, but this quality little photo bio book piqued my interest. Just about 80 photos covering William's life from opulent birth through tragic adolescence in 1998, one year after the demise of his mum, Princess Diana. Pix of trips, sports, school, family and semi-private precious reflections cast deep into his sad eyes.

This is not just a *Tiger Beat* oooooo & ahhh, look at him book. Quite introspective as to what a royals life entails even at an early age. But, ok, he IS cute too! Authoress Valerie Garner interjects interesting factoids. Enjoyable addition to bio collections.

A superb photo-biography!

Prince William deserves ongoing mention as a photo-biography for all ages: it focuses on the young prince from birth to adolescence, and provides a visual display of the young man which will appeal to any with a special affection for England.

When I got this book, I figured it would be a teenybopper book that gushes about him and how hot and stoic he is. Well, I was off by a HUGE amount. This book has a lot of rare pictures and good information. I would recommend it to anyone interested in British royalty.

My son is six years old and this book captivated him for a good four nights, a few pages a night, for his bedtime story. It is very visually appealing with vividly colored pictures and thick glossy pages. It is written very well, easy for a young child to understand, yet filled with information about rocks and minerals. I have to read it to my child as he's not an independent reader yet, but an independent reader would also really enjoy this book. It is made for children but not at all "babyish." A great way to either learn about rocks and minerals, or introduce a child to non fiction.

I'm very impressed with this book and will be purchasing more DK Eye Wonder titles. I've looked at their other titles and they all look like wonderful books.

Exactly what I expected

I loved this book as a child -- even though by then Neil Armstrong's real life adventures had made the science fiction obsolete. A good story is a good story, and kids will love the brave and resourseful cat.

Space Cat is timeless.

I have been searching for the book "Space Cat Meets Mars" for decades. If "Space Cat" is the same book, I read it in the 1960's when in elementary school, and renewed it as many times as the library would allow. As the years passed, I never forgot what an incredible impact this story had on me as a child. Now after more than 30 years, I don't recall precisely the story line or details, yet I do recall the book as part of a fond childhood memory.

"Space Cat " stories are superb!!!

The "Space Cat" series is my most favorite reading from my Elementary school years!!! I, too, renewed as often as permitted, read them to my cousins, and whoever else would listen. As an adult, I've read them to my children, and have been searching for a way to have them as part of our family library. This is great!!!

In the hope that the series is reissued.

This book gave a lot of tips for being an effective substitute teacher. It is chuckful of interesting tidbits to help newbies in the field. I particularly liked that the professional standpoint that it took on how to make a good name for yourself as a substitute teacher. It is a very positive book. It is easy to read because the writer does not talk above you or at you rather at your level. Nor is it like the typical self help books that tend to drive the reader into overload with all sorts of new information. I would say it is more along the lines of reasoning and wisdom when it comes to teaching children. I appreciated the perspectives that Barbara offered in her book. They gave a lot of food for thought. I enjoyed reading it.

I purchased this book for my sister. She was starting a job as a sub. She went in with the book in hand on her first day. She had a free period first and read some of the book. When she got to the first class that she had to teach, she implemented some of what she read immediately. She said it was "perfect timing". The book is great.

It is amazing that it has taken this long for someone to put together a "bible" for the substitute teacher. Without a doubt, Prof. Pressman has made a major contribution to the teaching profession. As someone that has been a teacher, counselor, adminstrator and education consultant, it is clear that this book needs to be required reading for anyone that plans to step into a classroom as a substitute. And to top it off, she has to most awesome website where you can go and learn more. Believe me, if you are opening a consignment or resale store, buying this manual will save you money, time and heartache. I pull mine out almost weekly. And my hubby is getting tired of me saying "Yeah, but Kate's manual says....."

Her words are echoing in my head with every decision I make in regards to my store.

After doing a lot of PT for my knee and going nowhere, I decided to buy 3 books about knees. I liked this one very much and also "The knee crisis handbook", which has explanations about several types of knee injury. My only complain is that some asana explanations (Warrior, Triangle) talk about the front knee, and says nothing about the rear knee, which can be misaligned as well if you let your knee drop (which normally happened to me).

Must Have For the Road to Recovery

I had knee pain due to runners knee (patella tracking) and started physical therapy. I did PT twice a week for 4-5 months and the pain worsened and became chronic. I could not exercise and even sitting at work was painful. I went to an orthopedist and had x-rays and a MRI to rule out other issues and he found nothing other than the patella tracking issue and suggested me to continue on with more PT. At this point I decided to try yoga, even though the PT felt it would be a waste of my time. I got this book since it was specifically for knees and went through the full routine for a week and felt much better and went cold turkey on PT as it was doing nothing other than thinning my wallet. Within a month I could exercise again (not run though, too much pressure under the kneecap still). After 3-4 months I can run again with no discomfort. For maximum sustained benefit Yoga needs to be practiced consistently and I do find if I go too long my knees will both me slightly, much like the author warns of. The poses in this book are basic and were not intimidating to me with the exception of Hero Pose which I did not attempt for a few months, but now I can comfortably hold the pose for a few minutes with no support. Explanations are excellent and pictures are sufficient. Overall a must buy for those with knee pain.

Knees bees. Whatever. Just got this book a week ago, so as far as helping knees per se, don't know, but most impressed with it. These few yoga exercises limbers up the entire hip, leg area. It identifies which side is tighter. She even rightly points out to go barefoot often to strengthen feet that have been too conditioned to shoes.

I'm not a fan of static stretching, although athletic and engage in speed skating, weightlifting, running, hiking, but this book could stand alone as a stretching book, utilizing yoga.

For such a cheap price, it's a steal.

As a CEO of a financial services company, I receive many books to review that are primarily focused on strategy or vision. While both of those are important to the healthy growth of a company, I tend to see the same philosophies described in different words. This book is different. It reveals the principles of leading in a refreshingly simple manner. The focus of the book is achieving results through leadership and it offers powerful insights to all levels of management. I first picked up a copy of Baby Blues when I was on my honeymoon in US. Never saw it before in my life, but after flipping through a few pages of this, I was hooked. Todate, I've ended up with the entire set in my house, all read over and over again.

The strips simply mirror my life as a parent, although I don't quite have Wanda's benefit of being a SAHM. I personally have 2 kids who are have a very close age gap of only 14 months. Wanda and Darryl's misadventures and experiences couldn't be more realistic for parents or parents-to-be.

I've introduced it to my friends, who have become hooked as well and some of them have the whole collection as well.

Buy a copy. You won't go wrong!

Here is a whole collection of "Baby Blues", a clever, brutally honest comedy satire all about child-rearing from a couple of good ol' "been-there" daddies! Features a well-meaning but know-nothing dork of a dad, a disgruntled, long-suffering mommy who smiles graciously through clenched teeth, and - the big stars of the strip - Zoe, the precicous but spoiled rotten brat in perky red pigtails and Ham, the pin-headed baby of the whole family with a personality to match his name! A very generous helping of really crazy domestic misadventures for the new parents to find comfort and reassurance in as well as for the happily childless to gloat outrageously over!

A great gift idea and more

You already know which comic strips you like, right? But newspapers don't carry every comic strip, so it's possible you aren't familiar with Baby Blues. It's also possible you like the strip but wondered what happens "behind the scenes." You might even be looking for a "housewarming" type gift in the $10-20 range.

I've been introduced to some of my favorite comic strips over the years. So this is my recommendation to the people who haven't heard of Baby Blues. My tastes range from Dilbert, The Far Side, and Calvin & Hobbes to the more obscure Overboard, Robotman and Fusco Brothers to the gentleness of For Better or Worse and Peanuts. Basically, I don't like a lot of "syrup," but my comics must have sensitive human observation. Baby Blues has a raw warmth, with more energy than "For Better" and more realistic characters than "Peanuts."

I enjoyed Baby Blues before my child was born, but it really "hits home" now. It's amusing with or without your own children. But if you're one of the "withs," the book doubles as a mirror!

I always find the lives of the artist and what goes into their drawings interesting from a perspective standpoint. (I liked "The PreHistory of the Far Side.") "10 Years and Still in Diapers" gives this perspective during the early chapters and in a friendly, mildly self-deprecating way.

Instead of yet another bottle of wine, why not bring this book to your next casual get together? Instead of yet another outfit, why not make this a baby shower gift? Besides being "painfully" entertaining, it's attractive enough for the coffee table.

There is so much more to the book than the simple title, "Be Nice .. or Else" ... implies. The author takes the idea to the next level and expands it out in a way that everyone can see clearly how their life is affected by their "nice-ability" to everyone in their experience ... great success can be achieved by learning from the material in this book and using the simple practices in our every day lives. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is willing to realize more happiness and joy in their lives.
