I was pretty satisfied by the contents of this book. This book is a comprehensive guide for network administrators to implement Commerce Server 2000 and administer and secure it effectively. The configuration examples are comprehensive and I could configure Commerce Server 2000 with ease after reading the contents of this book. The authors seem to have a thorough hands-on experience with Commerce Server 2000. I liked the chapters on deployment, security and integration of Commerce Server with BizTalk server. This is indeed a great buy!!

The Best Practical Exchange 2003 Primer!!! Must Read!!!

For those familiar with my reviews, you know that I don't give 5 stars lightly. Especially when it comes to technical books, it's almost impossible to perfectly meld the technical, the relevant, and the well written into the same text. Well I'm here to tell you that David McAmis and Don Jones have done it!

This was the first Delta Guide Series book that I have reviewed. I hope they are all this good because I'm looking forward to finding out.

The book basically covers Exchange Server 2003 soup to nuts. It does a very effective job of emphasizing the differences between this release, Exhchange 2000, and Exchange 5.5. It also covers all the other basics you would need to know, such as licensing, versions, hardware requirements, limitations, and configurations.

One slippery topic that was especially well covered was Active Directory. This book isn't a complete Active Directory reference for Exchange. Those sections covered the most useful information thoroughly without excess abstraction. Excellent!

What made this book so refreshing was the absense of useless filler that typifies so many technical books. It was complete but at the same time to the point. Every chapter in this book is time well spent.

There are some usefull links sprinkled throughout. Those are bonuses. What really makes this book stand out is the quality and presentation of the information. Kudos to the writers and editors of this awesome text!

Excellent reference

This book is an excellent reference for the MFC library. It covers every single MFC class in technical detail and even gives examples of how they are used. In addition, the book begins by giving the reader (who should be familiar with C++) a good look into the MFC framework. After all, you can't USE the MFC if you don't know how it works right? I purchased this book AND the MFC reference library from Microsoft and I have found this book to be superior in the explanations and the attention paid to involving the programmer in the reading. Excellent buy, highly recommended for your reference collection!

Great for my users

I manage a medium-sized network and support a large number of fairly savvy users. That is, most users know how to do their specific tasks very well and are willing to learn new things. But they are not willing to sit down with a book full of dense text. This is where the "Quick Steps" books come in handy. I keep a number of these books on hand and when a user requests assistance, I give them one of the books with the appropriate page bookmarked. Steps are outlined in full color with lots of pictures and pointers and tips. Additional information is set off in side boxes so users can learn more if they choose. What I have found is that once a user completes a task successfully, they get fairly excited about the experience and browse the book to learn more. The books really stimulate users to experiment with things they would not normally bother to learn. And that is where this book excels. It is a "browser." Users don't feel like they need to start at the beginning and read through to the end. I get lots of grumbles when I ask for the book back so I can pass it on to others.

This book is also great for new users. I tell them to spend a few hours working through the steps, which are easy to follow and can be done at a fairly fast pace. Most users think the full color layout is fun to work through. The down-side is that like any book, space is limited, especially with the fully-illustrated format, so you're obviously not going to find everything in these books, but I do feel they contain a good balance of material and are appropriate for corporate libraries.

Marty and I are fellow writers and that is how I learned about these books. I must say that it has helped my users enormously and relieved my support task. Hey, it's the 21st century. Anyone working in an office should know how to work with operating systems and common applications. Most people can do that if they have easily accessible references and refresher material like these books. Thanks to Marty for developing the "Quick Steps" concept and to McGraw-Hill for publishing this series.

This "Microsoft Office XP Complete" from Sybex is in many respects, one of the best-value Office XP text available. Despite its low price, the book provided all the information any user (whether beginner or expert) would ask for. Having read this book, I can't understand why many buyers continue to ignore it. The detailed chapters were presented using the simplest possible method. Its main target is the new user of Office XP, yet, old-timers would find it hard to resist.
