The book is full of real-world examples and the content would make it an excellent text book for a class on eCommerce or ebXML in any University. However, it was written with a personal flair that makes it very readable and easy to follow and understand. It will continue to be a valued reference book in my eCommerce library for years to come as it hits on subjects that are relevant for today and tomorrow, as well as giving a good historical perspective of EDI and other standards for business messaging.

The real difference of this book is that its focus is on how to use ebXML to solve real-world problems with examples, rather than providing an overview of the ebXML specification itself.

I have dabbled in HTML for some time now even created some useful sites for friends and clients. I wanted to do more though and when I picked up Paul Bodensieks book I found it to be exactly what I had been looking for. It tells you little bits about everything. If you dont know your Java from your ActiveX then this book will give you confidense to write your first code. Here is a book that could easly have been titled

I found this book from a bibliographic reference while reading "XML for Data Architects" by the same author. The "E-Commerce" part of the title threw me a bit, but after reading through the book I was amazed. This book contains a tremendous amount of strategy, approach, technique, and supporting reference for those who are involved with design and development of international technology. Even more valuable to me were the numerous international, national and industry data standards resources. After having given it a solid read, I am impressed. Cheers !

Excellent choice for the transition of broadening business network capapbilities! This is the 2nd book I have purchased and utilized from this author. This is a must have, and not a shelf space waster. Worth more than 40 bucks for the sales recruitment ability it created for my small company.

This book gives a very good overview of Enterprise Application Integration(EAI) and about the methods and the techniques for approaching EAI successfully. The main thing is about the role of CORBA as an EAI-enabling technology and the domains where EAI needs. The later chapters explains the latest additions in the evolving CORBA technology apart from some precious real world examples towards its goal. It is a very useful book for those who are to use CORBA as a viable integrating technology.

Being a student of business and information management, I had heard about SOA before, both from a technical perspective (XML, Web services) and from a business standpoint (shiny visions of flexible processes). This book is like the missing link between the two areas! It does not only tell you that SOA will change organizations but it also shows *how* exactly this is going to happen. The authors describe all relevenat aspects, starting from organizational change down to the SAP tools that can be used to model processes and to create your own service-oriented applications.
What surprised me most was that ESA - SAP's flavour of SOA - is business-ready today! This is illustrated with numerous real-world examples from a wide range of corporations. The case studies give a good idea of useful ESA applications and show how the transition to a service-oriented infrastructure could take place.
"Enterprise SOA" is suited for everybody interested in information management, even without any previous knowledge in the SOA field. After reading through the book, you'll finally know how SOA is changing the business environment and how SAP is bringing the concepts to life based on open standards. Although you won't know every technical detail, you'll have learned enough to plan your organization's future in a service-oriented world.

This is a very helpful book on SOA because it provides the business case for SOA, an excellent technical overview, and real-life examples of how to use it.

While it is written from an SAP perspective, any IT group that is investigating SOA will find value in this book -- as it describes how SOA impacts different layers of the IT stack (from persistence to business objects, to process orchestration, and uesr interfaces). It also provides actual case studies.

I love resources -- especially Internet resources! Besides being free (most of the time), they're readily accessible and provide the public with more information than they can probably handle :). The book, "Essential Websites for Educational Leaders in the 21st Century," by James Lerman, provides such a listing. In his book, James conveniently lists over 300 websites relating in some way to the area of education. These websites have been researched, gathered, and organized into 25 categories, such as General Reference, Homework Help, Projects, and Young Children. In order to make the list, each website had to pass certain guidelines so that readers would have the best possible selection. James describes each website, explains what makes each an important resource for education, and tells how educational leaders might make use of each resource.

I have tried to learn programs from training books before. Sometimes I learned, but I rarely had fun. This book quickly taught me what I needed to know about Dreamweaver and was fun to boot. In my book (excuse the pun), that makes this book a winner! Thanks IconLogic.

This book offered the kinds of lessons I needed, taught the way I needed, and introduced me to "skills and drills" learning. I'd heard about that methodology but never tried it. I'm a big fan now.

Here's what I mean about "skills and drills" learning: Each lesson was explained before I went throught it. Then each lesson was "skilled" into my head via step-by-step activities. Next the lesson was "drilled" into my head via confidence checks (which are exercises you are asked to complete--without step-by-step handholding--before you can proceed).

I also appreciated the fact that the techno verbage was kept to a minimum. No wasted words here!

This book gave me great insight into the b2b world. I was a novice and now I consider myself an expert in this field after reading this book. I highly recommend this book for beginners and up.

The checklists alone are well worth getting the book. The author takes the proven, intuitive process of software development and uses it as a template for building an extranet. A must read for anyone involved in online commerce. I've already given many copies to clients who have used the book for their businesses.

It's always hard to figure out which search engine to use when you're trying to find information on the Web. Hock's book does a great job at sorting out the strengths and weaknesses of each of the major search engines, as well as providing easy-to-read documentation of features such as phrase searching and searching for personal names. I especially liked the sections on "What Happens Behind the Scenes" and "Special Options," which show where each search engine excels. Any serious Net.searcher should have this book within arm's reach.

The availability of a lot of information on the Internet has made finding specific information a more difficult task to accomplish. Unless someone knows were to find something online they must make use of existing tools to find it. A number of elaborate search engine tools were created with this one goal in mind.

Randolph Hock has written The Extreme Searcher's Guide to Web Search Engines to provide us with helpful insight into how existing search engines can be put to use to help researchers find specific information online. A number of these search engines have been around for a while and have seen much use, but time, effort, and money can be saved by becoming more familiar with the major ones and using those that will get the job done!

This book covers the operation and use of major search engines such as Alta Vista, Excite, HotBot, Infoseek, Internet Sleuth, Lycos, Northern Light, WebCrawler, Yahoo, and others. Readers will find out that there are not only search engines that search the 'Net, but search engines that search multiple search engines themselves! Some of these are covered in the book as well!

Readers are introduced to each search engine covered in the book. Screen shots, entry fields, and information about special functions and use are provided. They will learn how each search engine operates and how they should be put to the best possible use. They are compared with one another and the author offers his own opinion of the strengths and weaknesses of each one. Readers are left to determine which search engines are best suited for their own particular needs. An accompanying Website provides updated information at their fingertips!

The book is ideally suited for professional researchers, students, businesses, and libraries. It can be read from cover-to-cover or opened up at any particular place as special needs arise. It is thoughtfully written and very readable. It will make finding information online a much easier and more enjoyable task!
