This book is great. At first when I began reading it I thought it was strange that the author E.B. White had characters that were animals that could talk .Although it is not true that animals can talk, after I began reading the book more and concentrated hard I caught the excitement the characters created.
The book takes place on a very old farm. The characters were like real peolple but one of biggest stars in the book was a little spider called Charlotte. She gave all her friendship to a pig with a lot of courage and love that he needed.

Read this book it is SO good!

Author Bobbi Balderman has provided readers with a straightforward, practical, eminently useful guide to the often confusing world of creative services. It's an insider's guide written in layman's terms, with helpful tips that have been highlighted on almost every page, and sample checklists and forms for those new to the production process. Whether you are a novice at marketing a nonprofit or a seasoned print pro who's never been involved with video production or website creation before, Balderman walks you through the step-by-step details necessary for getting the job done on time and under budget. As an adjunct professor who teaches public relations at local colleges and universities, I recommend this book to all my students. As a PR and marketing consultant, I also recommend this book to all my clients...

Comprehensive guide to working with the "creative types"...

Review Date: 2007-07-28
Have you ever wondered why it takes so long to do something when it comes to creating a video or brochure for your organization? That's because there are a lot of steps involved in making sure it comes out right. Bobbi Balderman outlines those actions in her book The Ultimate Guide To Purchasing Website, Video, Print & Other Services. I have a much more healthy respect for the process now...

Contents: The Name of the Game; Getting Started; Defining the Project; Scheduling; Betting a Budget; Selecting the Right Supplier; Working with Your Creative Resources; Creating an In-House Department - The Pros and Cons; Making the Project Go; Bringing Ideas to Life - The Process of Art Production; Getting Ready for the Printer - Pre-press Production; Selecting and Working with Printers; Probing the Printing Process; The World of the Internet; Handling Video Productions; Producing the Video - From Script to Finished Product; Putting it All Together; Glossary; Index

Balderman does this sort of work for a living, and she knows the process well. She quickly destroys the myth of "anyone can produce quality work on their own", then proceeds to show you how things work in the real world. There are reasons why people specialize in this area, so you should take advantage of the skills they bring to the table. From composition to design to printing, there are hundreds of decisions to be made that affect the outcome of the product. Between spending time reading this book and following her forms and checklists, you'd greatly improve your chances of ending up with something that you can be proud of... high quality professional creative material, error-free.

I'll be the first to admit that I've found the whole "creative design" process somewhat overblown and tedious at times. In meetings where I've been with the artistic groups, I tend to zone out during debates about discussions, fonts, paper weights, etc. But I can now see where all that fits in, and how it really needs to happen in order for a quality result to emerge. If everyone settled for "just do something", that's what you'd end up with... a brochure or site that looks like you just did something.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is involved in or is responsible for media creation. It's time and money well-spent.

This book is *not* unavailable -- it was published in a new edition. ISBN 1-59092-012-X, "Pokemon! The Best Websites." This is a great book because the number of quality of Pokemon sites are few and the guide gives you the best of them. Also, there's a built in deal where if a site is down you can contact the publisher and they'll fix the issue. (I should know -- I *am* the publisher!) :)

I was a little wary about buying this book, as there were few reviews here and elsewhere. However, after viewing a good portion of the book on Google Book Search, I saw what a useful resource it could be and bought it immediately.

One can at times hear echoes of Ed Buryn (Vagabonding in Europe and North Africa) in Endicott's writing, yet this is a very original work based off of a great deal of personal experience (see the introduction). Most likely it will open up doors to possibilities you never knew existed, for example I was previously unaware of eco-villages and air-hitching, among many others. The websites listed seem to be up to date - as far as I have checked - and the advice is as practical and straightforward as it comes. While not for everyone (particularly the affluent and complacent), this book is truly a must for those who want to get out and EXPERIENCE firsthand the wonders of the world, without being a rich and aloof tourist.

Excellent!

(Planeta.com Journal) -- The definitive how-to book for world travel, Vagabond Globetrotting introduces readers to a great collection of resources and indispensable tips.Author Marcus Endicott is one of the pioneers in sustainable tourism and has written a book that stimulates and educates.

I have been a long-time fan of Marcus' work -- particularly the creation of the Green-travel forum <www.green-travel.com> and having read the earlier version of this book, I am quite impressed with the new edition.

At the age of nineteen, I came into posession of a copy of the second edition of Vagabond Globetrotting (1989). It inspired many schemes about spending the rest of my life traveling the world, living by my wits and improvisational survival skills (like its author). I didn't end up becoming a vagabond permanently, but I did manage a couple of great trips--one to Europe for a month when I was 22, and then another to Guatemala for five months at the age of 24. In both cases, I carried with me Endicott's book as a definitive reference guide--for its checklists and resources and practical advice. The updated version is full of the URLS of useful web sites for travelers, as well as updated information from the previous editions. The author is a true authority. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend this book. Very well written and the projects actually work once you work out your own knowledge of CGI and Perl, but that was not a big deal. I especially like the detailed comment on the code and the in-depth analysis of each of the VoiceXML elements and attributes. I hope Mark Miller plans to write a sequel!

I bought this book last week and implemented most of the hands-on exercises in the book. The exercises are fun to do and the author's explanations are very clear and organized that made learning VoiceXML very interesting.

Now I feel very comfortable to write a VoiceXML script for my upcoming project. No to mention some typos in the scripts that provides you even better opportunity to learn hands-on.

And the code-check database was very helpful in detecting where a program might have gone wrong. I would recommend this book for anyone getting started with VoiceXML.

Matthews weaves a wonderful web of an amateur sleuth tale

Review Date: 1999-02-13

Psychotherapist Cassidy McCabe believes as life nears perfection, catastrophe strikes. Cassidy feels good about having finally paid off the debts of her former husband that were charged to her account. Even more ecstatic to her mindset is that her lover, commitment-shy Zach Moran finally proposed. However, her heavenly existence abruptly changes when teenager Bryce arrives. Unbeknownst to Zach before the lad showed up is that he sired Bryce, who carries a note from his mother, Xandra, warning that the teen needs protection from a non-described menace.

Zach hates to think back on the sordid past he shared with Xandra. She was a high priced call girl who led him around for three months before dropping him. Zach could not handle her rejection. He drank and stalked her. Once he even got rough with her. Zach visits Xandra to learn more about their son and the threat. However, he finds his ex dead. The police strongly feel he murdered Xandra. Cassidy realizes that since her lover could not have done the deed, someone is setting him up to take the fall. She and Cassidy begin their own sleuthing even knowing they could be the next victims.

The fourth installment in the McCabe mysteries is simply a winner. WANTON'S WEB contains everything amateur sleuth lovers will want in an ongoing series. Besides the duo diving headfirst into a new investigation, the novel includes a murdered ex-lover, an unknown adolescent son, and the growth of the lead protagonists' relationship. It is the last piece that makes Alex Matthews' latest entry an entertaining tale.

Cassidy McCabe returns in Wanton's Web, amazingly confident and comfortable -- at least to begin. She's finally paid off the debts her ex left her with, Starshine the calico seems happy with monster-kittens gone, and even her relationship with Zach is on an even keel as they discuss plans to marry. Unfortunately, when Zach's past returns with a vengeance, Cassidy finds her life thrown once more into crisis as she and Zach team up to find the killer before the police arrest Zach. The first indication that Zach has a child is when he shows up, at the age of seventeen, unannounced on his and Cassidy's doorstep. Bryce presents his mother's letter by way of introduction, explaining that his mother is concerned for his safety and sent him to stay with Zach for a few days. Not surprisingly, Zach races off to the mother Xandra's apartment to confront her, but he's too late. While Cassidy waits in the car, Zach discovers the body of his former lover lying in a pool of blood. Half drunk, he convinces Cassidy to take him home, promising to call the police in the morning when he's clear headed. But someone saw Zach at Xandra's apartment and will report it to the police. In his round-about style, Zach admits his affair with Xandra seventeen years before when he was in his early twenties: "Xandra had a powerful kind of seductiveness different from anything I've ever encountered before or after. I couldn't get enough of her. Or the drugs that came with her." Zach compared her to a "sexual spiderwoman" who always got what she wanted. As Cassidy unravels the secrets of the past, drawn deeper into the web of deceit and danger, she finds herself questioning Zach's drinking, the possibility of his guilt, and her own weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Though she believes Zach, Cassidy can't help reacting to the power that Xandra wielded over every man she encountered. Even as tension mounts between Cassidy and Zach, they must work together to find the killer before two of Chicago's finest succeed in building their case against him. Alex Matthews sets the standards by which excellent mystery writing may be judged. With sassy finesse, she successfully captures the reader in her web with a catchy story and fantastic characterization, well the earning 1999 Readers Choice Award for Best Character In A Series. Indeed, Matthews lends her characters a power and depth, thereby revealing their vulnerabilities and fears right along with their strengths. I heartily recommend Wanton's Web.

I became comfortable with the characters right away. Cassidy and Zach seemed very real. Her cat, although not her sleuthing partner, helps to ground the characters with actions all pet owners can identify with. I can understand why Alex Matthews won the 1999 Readers Choice Award for BEST CHARACTER IN A SERIES. The entire mystery series is worth reading.

This book may not seem an obvious choice for many readers. It's not about a particular API, certification, or other buzzword topic, and the title can sound dry and academic. Don't be put off! This is a practical, hands-on book which can take your software straight past the hype of web services and into using the resources of the whole internet in your programs right now. With no big middleware downloads, protocol specs, or head-scratching config files.

The book walks you through how to read, control and extract information from existing web pages and web applications anywhere on the internet, how to read, send and process emails and newsgroup postings, how to recognise just the text or data you want, and much more. Source code is given for servlets and applets to examine and drive web forms, and usage examples include sending SMS messages and applying decision-making rules to internet share-price data. It's also full of ideas and suggestions to make you want to leap up and get started.

When I got this book, I couldn't put it down. A lot of computer books sit on the shelf or send me to sleep, but not this one. Not only is it both topical and useful, but it hits a just-about-ideal balance between code and food for thought. The author has a real knack for useful solutions to complex problems.

These products are so much easier to use than trying to hold open a book and look for the color you need. It's also easy to visualize the colors together and helps to create more pleasing eye appealing pages.

These are simply the BEST new products to hit the market in a long time! They also make great gifts, send one today. They are great for beginners and advanced users alike!

This card is an absolute must-have for web designers. The colors are clear and arranged in logical order. The card is cross-referenced so you can choose by visual hue or locate a color by its code. The color codes are listed as hexadecimal HTML, decimal RGB and "VisiBone's Visual Anglo-Centric Color Code." An added bonus is a chart showing the color chart through the eyes of a color-blind person (yes, women can be color-blind also.) I heartily recommend this purchase.
