So many books of this kind seem to leave the biblical testimony and instead focus on extrabiblical data. For conservatives, this is not a very good approach, as the Bible is our only source of absolute truth. This book does a good job of staying on point, and examining the Scriptures through a logical, and sound exegetical approach to interpretation and application. I'm very glad to have purchased this book, and will recommend it to many others.
As one reviewer stated, there is a fear in the latter portions of the book that the authors espouse an overall nullification of any part of the Scriptures that may require any changes or challenges to the individual. But, a careful reading of the authors' perspectives lead to the conclusion of this reader that they do not advocate a relativistic approach to interpretation, but rather, one that is as closely related to Jesus' own approach as can be.
All in all, a very good book. Read it for what it says, and not for what it doesn't, and you'll be fine.

Ive read this book before at a library and had to buy it. It gives clear reasoning in a short white page book. Ive met other people who agree with me. Highly recommended to those confused, questioning, and those wanting to educate themselves.

There are parts of the book that are clearly written in the immature style of a teenager (colloquial speech) and parts that have been edited so much that they seem to come from an entirely different person. The overall book is choppy in terms of style, although the organization is excellent.
I would have preferred that the author articulate more clearly his emotions that accompanied his experiences. I would have hoped that his editor/professional writing mentor would have worked on making the story more compelling. I was a bit sad to get to the end of the book and not feel inspired. I felt like it was an "interesting story," but inspirational--not quite.
The captions below the photos should either not exist or tell additional information that is not contained in the text. I was annoyed to read a summary statement below the photo that I had just read on the previous pages.
It would be a good leisure read for high school students (or anyone for that matter), although as an example of good quality writing, I wouldn't suggest it.

The Kielburger story is one of an incredible journey that he took as a twelve year old to explore the problem of child labor. The "journey" has continued since then into his discovery of the problem all over the world, in addition to his solution through his organization. They build schools, spread awareness through lectures (and their website www.freethechildren.com), inspire young leaders through their programs, and so much more. This is a story that needs to be told over and over again to whomever in hopes that the world can work together to "Free the Children" all over the globe. Get this book and pass it on to any one and make sure they pass it on....

Craig and Marc's stories are so amazing. I used to think that I can't make a difference in the world because I am only 14 years old. This book taught me that even the smallest of actions can create a ripple that affects more people than I can ever imagine. The ideas in this book are really quite simple, but when articulated so clearly by Marc and Craig, it just makes so much sense.

The concept is great, and I'm glad I have the book. But it was quite difficult to use because of the need to keep flipping back and forth. This should ideally be presented as a searchable CD, or even better, as an online database with a membership fee. That would also allow for more pictures, which would help greatly in identifying plants.
Wow! This is an incredible book!!

I just finished reading and reviewing Safe Sex in the Garden, the newest book by Thomas Leo
Ogren. I had already bought and read (several times) Allergy-Free Gardening. I am becomming a real fan of this author, who I would say knows more about health and horticulture than any other writer I've ever read.
Seriously, Ogren is that rare find, an original thinker who can write well. In both of his books the
text moves right along. It is almost like reading a good novel, except that as you read it,
you are learning so many remarkable, often quite incredible new things.
I have a friend who heard this author speak, at the Huntington Museum and arboretum, and
she told me that he is a fantastic speaker too. But that doesn't surprise me at all.
In Allergy-Free Gardening you will see what has happened in modern landscapng, where
tidy plants (male) are so much favored over pollen-free plants (female). There is a huge
section in the book where many thousands of garden and landscape plants are discussed, and
each one is given an easy to understand allergy (1-10) ranking. Everyone I know who owns this book has put it to use, making their own yards allergy-free. I count this book as probably the most useful
gardening book I own, and find that I refer to it over and over, and not just on health matters
either. The culture of plants, how to grow them best, all this is well covered.
I just can't recommend this book too highly. I wish that every single gardener, landscaper, allergist, doctor,
and horticulture teacher owned a copy. The city arborists need to read this book too, since
so often they are the ones who are planting all those allegenic, male, pollen producing street trees.
This is a good one (as is the super intersting Safe Sex in the Garden) and if you have a
garden and care about your own health, you'll simply love reading it.

As someone who has a history of allergies to almost everything, this book truly has become the Bible of allergies for me. In my opinion, this really is the best book ever written in regards to allergies. Tom Ogren outlines the allergy potential for every plant you've ever heard of, and a few you probably haven't heard of. When we moved into our new Southern California home a couple of years ago, we used this as a bible for landscaping -- if the book gave it a good pollen rating, we planted it. If it was a high pollen rating, we didn't plant it. The result? My allergies are better now than they have been at any time in my life, and this book has played a huge part in that! Even if you're not allergic to plants, get this book if you do any landscaping -- if everyone would follow his suggestions, there's no question we'd reduce the amount of allergic reactions by a huge amount. I can't say enough good about this book!!
Great Book!

I have owned this book for several years now and couldn't do without it. I do a good deal of gardening and before I buy any new plants at the nursery, I consult Allergy Free Grdening. My allergist suggested I buy this book, and I am very glad that I did. AFG helps me pick out trees, shrubs, vines, & flowers that will not cause allergies. It is very easy to use, interesting, useful, and surprisingly, kind of fun to read. There is also a good deal of solid advice on how to grow different kinds of plants.
Several of my friends also own this book and we all find it terribly useful. If you have allergies or asthma, or if you have a husband, daughter, son, or good friend who does, this is the book to own. It would also make a wonderful present for your favorite doctor, especially so if he/she is an allergist. I highly recommend Allergy-Free Gardening.

Allergy-Free Gardening really did change the way I look at plants. I have a background in both horticulture and botany and yet there was so much new material that I learned from this book that I was frankly, amazed. I knew a bit about plant sex, but in retrospect, very little.
In Thomas Ogren's eyes all plants are not created equally--or at least they certainly are not equally of value to us. In the past I planted and never gave much thought to whether or not something would be causing me rashes, allergies or other plant-triggered illnesses. I look at trees, shrubs, vines, flowers, lawns different now though. I use this book to find the best plants, the ones that will be attractive and useful in my garden and that will be healthy choices for me and my family.
I like the way Allergy-Free Gardening is set up. Everything is easy to find, easy to understand, easy to use. This author has a real talent for taking the very complicated and putting it all into easily understood layperson terms. His writing is fluent, personal, interesting. You have the feeling he cares deeply about what he does. I haven't read his newest book yet, Safe Sex in the Garden, but I have two friends who have and they thought it was excellent. I've ordered a copy of it also. But, if you garden or you are concerned about your health, I expect you will enjoy this book. I also find that I use it over and over as a general gardening reference book, since it is full of good, solid, down to earth horticultural advice. This is one of the best gardening books I own, and certainly the best thing written on allergies, asthma, and avoiding pollen.

I truly enjoyed reading Dr. Younkins' Capitalism and Commerce. It shed new and insightful light on many topics that I have been previously taught. Not until I read this book did I come to understand the extent to which I was indoctrinated with such a one-sided view in previous years. Since reading the book, I have begun to view topics such as taxation, antitrust law, public education, and the philosophy of natural law in a new way. I found Dr. Younkins' book very easy to read and understand. I have used it as a reference for other classes and papers I have written and intend to do so throughout the remainder my undergraduate years and hopefully into law school.

Dr. Younkins exposes to the world the truth behind the current United States entitlement system. The easy to read chapters discuss each aspect of a capitilistic system in its purest form. Each chapter builds on each other allowing the reader to discover the mirage of free enterprise in this country.
This is a very good book and Ed has been able to lubricate the previously dry subject of economics. Any person who believes that Americans live under a free enterprise system should read this book. If you believe that you are entitled to some economic aid from the "Government," read this book.

The problem nowadays with discourse on political and economic issues is that there is much confusion over the definition of terms. Two groups demand rights but they're in conflict because one group wants welfare rights while the other wants liberty rights. Whose claim for rights is legitimate? Well, that all depends on what is the definition of a right.
Younkins' wonderful contribution with this work is not only to demonstrate that words like `rights', `justice', and `dignity' have specific meanings, but from the view point that man prefers freedom over slavery, he eloquently lays out the ontological framework of a free society.
Today many would argue that there's a natural tension between `rights' and `justice' with a tendency for one to happen at the expense of the other. That is not true, according to Younkins. He argues that when these terms are properly understood within the context a free society, they not only fulfill their roles unfettered, they work symbiotically towards producing a happy society.
Younkins covers much in his work and in the process he clears the fog by defining the role of the law, government, corporations, education, etc. within a free society. Younkins book is so systematic, consistent and thorough that it can be used as a litmus test to measure the degree of freedom within a particular society.
My only criticism of this work (and it is very minor) is that though his intended audience are lay persons in philosophy, economics and political science, Younkins' language does get a bit recondite at times. But overall this is thoughtful and brilliant work from a fine scholar. Every person who cares and thinks about sustaining a free society must have this work included in their library.

The name "Pizza Delivery Millionaire" intrigued me and, as I immersed myself in the book the title began to make perfect sense. One of the most amazing things (for me) was to go to a local booksigning and was able to meet characters from the book face-to-face - my conversation with Steve Glass, for example, made me feel like a young boy meeting one of his sports heroes for the first time. This book can be read in the time it takes for an average major league baseball game however, the lasting effects will stay with you much longer. The lesson I have learned is that it is never too late to get started in real estate and I intend to distribute this book to all my family, friends and relatives so that they don't miss out on all the hints and opportunities that can be found between the covers of the "Pizza Delivery Millionaire".

The Pizza Delivery Millionaire was a very easy but informative read.
I was most impressed with not only how the story kept me entertained but also with how it intertwined the lessons required to be a successful real estate investor. There are many books on the market today that boast about "Look what I did", "Do these 15 things and become a millionaire in two months". Not so in The Pizza Delivery Millionaire. I found it to have much more substance than many of those books and at the same time mix in some great characters in a fun entertaining story.
This book was recommended to me by a friend who is a real estate investor but I am sure we will be seeing much more of The Pizza Delivery Millionaire when the book hits mainstream America in the near future.
It certainly has renewed my interest in real estate again. It's been over 10 years for me. I'm feeling ready to get back in the game.

Pizza Delivery Millionaire is an excellent book to get you started on the road to becoming financially free. I highly recommend it. It's easy to read format engages the reader in a story that many people can relate. I find the real estate market to be one that is not always easily understood. Each lesson is like a little gem, to be looked over, thought about, and looked over again. This is a MUST-read for anyone looking to invest especially those who maybe afraid to take the chance. Pizza Delivery Millionaire goes beyond the usual "how to" or "make your life easier" but rather truly integrates theory & practice and turns the novice into thinkers and researchers. This book is full of inspirations, questions and reflections of all kinds!
Thank you Mr. Vazquez for sharing your knowledge. We all can benefit from this much needed life changing book. Kudos to Mr. Vazquez!

Before purchasing this book, please read the "reviews" of the product. As of this writing (4-22-08), there were 27 reviews, ALL of them 5-star! What do you think the odds are that the first 27 reviewers of a book will give the book ALL 5-stars?!? Additionally, of those 27 reviewers, 25 were writing a review for the first time! Again, what are the odds? It is quite obvious that the author, or someone close to him, is writing these reviews. All are short, generally just a few sentences, and lack any semblance of details contained in the book.

Saving Monticello by Marc Leepson is a definitive history of the fate of Thomas Jefferson's home from the time of Jefferson's death in 1826 at the age of 83, to 1923, when the home was purchased and turned into a memorial and destination for visitors.
Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is perhaps the most elegant and unique home in America. What happened to the marvelous home is a fascinating story that Leepson tells in ground-breaking depth. In his old age, Jefferson found himself about $100,000 in debt (some $1.6 million in today's dollars), mostly due to overspending over a period of many years. Tragically, Jefferson lived long enough to realize that his business mistakes were going to result in the loss of his beloved mansion, and that his daughter and grandchildren would be left destitute. Even while Jefferson still lived, Monticello began to fall into disrepair.
After the old man died, the house sat neglected for a number of years until it purchased by a most unusual man: Commodore Uriah Levy of the United States Navy. A New Yorker and proud descendant of Spanish Jews, Levy lived in the house only part-time, but did much to preserve the home from ruin. He lost possession of the home when Monticello was confiscated by the Confederate government due to Levy's active-duty service in the U.S. Navy.
It was during this time that Monticello entered its darkest period. Levy died during the war, leaving a complicated will. That and the Confederate seizure led to a clouded title and a lawsuit. For some seventeen years, the property was not only neglected, but openly abused. A trustee in Charlottesville, hostile to the Levys because they were Jewish and Yankees, hired a slovenly caretaker who stored grain in the parlor and allowed students from the University of Virginia to wreck the place in drunken parties. By the time Jefferson Levy, a nephew of Uriah, took possession of the house in 1879, Monticello looked like a haunted house.
Leepson's account of Jefferson Levy's restoration of the mansion gets a little tedious at times, but that's a forgivable sin in a book that aims to be the last word on a topic that's received very little attention. The struggle between Levy and those who wished to make Monticello a shrine lasted for decades and involved unsavory levels of anti-Semitism and gender politics. Eventually, Levy fell on hard times and sold the place to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation which continues to own and operate Monticello today.
It's interesting to realize what a close thing it really was to losing Monticello altogether. Although the Levys weren't cuddly or lovable characters, it was they who stood between Monticello and ruin for years in which other Americans could not have cared less what happened to the place. Thanks to Saving Monticello, the saga of the Levy years at Monticello can now be known and fully understood. This book will be of great interest to anyone interested in Monticello or in historic preservation in America.

This is a great book. A saga that is more than the story of how Monitcello was passed on through the years, but rather, a reflection of broader political and social history from the 1830s to the 1920s. Very detailed; interesting facts; some surprises; and as one editorial review has noted "rich with memorable, larger-than-life characters." If any serious Hollywood producer happens to be reading, the book offers a terrific story that could be made into a movie. I can't wait to read Marc Leepson's next book.

I highly recommend Marc Leepson's book 'Saving Monticello' because it gives credit to the Levy family without whose help and stewardship Monticello may have been erased forever.
His detail and insight of story serve to hold the reader's interest of not only Thomas Jefferson, but of the history of the time. Mr. Leepson very patiently educates us about the Levy family and their unwavering loyalty to Monticello. I had often wondered what had happened to Monticello during the years after Jefferson's death until the Memorial Foundation took it over and now is supplied to us a fascinating history, a thread which we must all be tempted to follow and remember as part of our own history. I cannot imagine looking at Monticello in the same way as I did before I read Mr. Leepson's, "Saving Monticello".

I have just finished reading "Saving Monticello" and want to say just how much I enjoyed it. I am a long-time fan of Jefferson and particularly his architectural endeavors (the subject of my master's thesis) so I go out of my way to find new items on the subject. It was great to learn about those "lost years" of Monticello that up until now have barely been touched on and I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in American history. The author has clearly delineated what a tenuous hold we sometimes have on important landmarks and how easily they can be lost to future generations if we are not careful.

I read this book a few years ago. Then I met the speaker again, and bought another copy yesterday. I read a good chunk of it last night. His material is extremely valuable, and he absolutely walks his own talk. He teaches you how to get Free Publicity, and then, when he's speaking, he GIVES you Free Publicity. He gets it, and he's out there sharing it. I'm a fan, and I don't even watch TV (don't tell him this.)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Jeff Crilley has you make your press release a desired objection of affection to the media. I know of no other book like it! As a former corporate executive, now business owner, I wish I would have know about this book years ago.
He is a consumate professional and works to help anyone who asks. I have met too many people to count that have implemented Jeff's techniques with exceptional results. Many of them have been on national TV, including news shows and Oprah. To reach more people, Jeff is placing his free publicity tips on YouTube.
Using Jeff's techniques, you can get Free Publicity. If you buy just one book as a PR primer, it should be this book.

A big part of promoting your product, books in my case, is PR. I have made contacting the press, writing press releases, and following up a regular habit. At first I was intimidated to call reporters and ask for a story or review about my books. Then I read Free Publicity and my trepidation went away.
Free Publicity is a valuable, inside look at how reporters think. It teaches what reporters are looking for in a story and gives practical advice on how to politely contact reporters and spin your product or service into a newsworthy story.
After I read Free Publicity I overhauled my whole approach to PR, and I found instant success in the way of newspaper exposure and radio interviews.
This book works. Read it now, follow it, and you will increase your press exposure for your company, product, service, book or whatever.
Thanks, Jeff. Keep up the good work.
Hope this helps.

I was lucky enough to hear Jeff Crilley in person at a writer's conference.
I'd never been so influenced by a speaker in my life! He not only has career-changing advice for writers, but he presents it in a super fun manner. We blew bubbles, ate Pez, and played "Name That Tune."
Doesn't THAT sound like an author you would want to read?
Mr. Crilley, a veteran newsman and emmy winner, offers practical advice on how to write a GOOD press release - one that won't end up on the newsroom floor (with other press releases). He also gives a formula for getting free publicity through the diverse media branches.
I LOVE this book and intend to use the principles therein!
The info is worth MORE than the cost of the book.

I'm a Certified Financial Planner(tm) practitioner who is always looking for good financial books to recommend to friends and people who come to my educational seminars. This one really hits the mark beautifully and says exactly what almost all successful financial advisors tell their clients. The secret to smart investing is investing in line with your risk tolerance, doing good asset allocation across all investment categories, choosing good mutual funds, then monitoring and adjusting the portfolio once a year.
Get rich schemes don't work and they make you crazy in the bargain. Low stress investing is the way to go -- forget market timing, picking hot stocks and following the "hot" advice from all the financial pornography on TV. Follow Millard's advice and you can have a worry-free portfolio.
A nice bonus with this book is the list of other good financial books in Appendix 2. I have read many of the ones he recommends and they are some of the best ones out there.

Fran Costigan has done it again. With her second bood about vegan baking she has taken the mystery out of asking "what's for dessert" to the many people out there who are vegan or just want to watch their fat intake. I have personally baked with Fran at one of her vegan dessert boot camps in NYC and can say first hand that everything is tasty, easy to make and just plain wonderful. Buy the book and start with the chocolate cake to live for then go on to the delectable uncoffeecake and then to the very tasty great big orange bundt cake, you will love them all.

It's always fun to serve vegan desserts to non-vegan friends and see if they even notice the difference. This cake, I'm telling you...it's sinful. Everyone loves it. If you don't have time to make a layered cake, half the recipe and make a single layer...frost it with one of Fran's yummy frosting options and enjoy! The best part is, it's so easy to make. Did I mention it tastes great?

Fran's book is filled with delicious recipes. There's so much variety, that there is truly something for every taste.
Plus, Fran provides plenty of education about the ingredients used in the book, and techniques for successful vegan baking.
Since I'm not a professional chef, I especially appreciate the reliability of these recipes. I usually bake for special occasions like birthdays, holidays and parties, and I want a product that I can be proud to serve to family and friends. Fran delivers every time.
I recently had the pleasure of studying with Fran at her Vegan Baking Bootcamp at the Natural Gourmet Institute. Fran suggested that we use her recipes as components for our own desserts. So for my birthday I made a banana-coconut cream pie using the Almond Cookie Crust, the Coconut Cream Filling and Frosting, and the Banana Cream Pudding. The result was spectacular - creamy and delicious.
The recipes are also adaptable according to your needs and preferences. I substituted coconut for the almonds in my pie crust, agave and maple syrup for the cane sweeteners, and kuzu for the cornstarch and arrowroot. The book includes a section on using the various starches correctly and interchanging them. I used other recipes in the book as examples of how to substitute the sweeteners. Fran includes cautions in the book to let you know when substitions won't work - another very helpful feature.
Since I love to bake, I have a lot of dessert books in my library, and I can honestly say that Fran's are my favorites. I can't wait for her next book!
