this book is filled with mostly black and white pictures. if you are getting this book to use to draw egyptian designs keep in mind that alot of the designs are very small and hard to draw and the bigger ones are even harder because of all the details. however it is a nice book to look at. but if i were you i'd wait till it go's on sale

I love this book! More like a toy. It offered me a chance to play (without having to draw) like a comic book artist or fantasy artist. Easy enough the kids can play too.
Complete with CD. With all the things you would need to make your own artwork, use as screen saver, hang on the wall or whatever.
Comes with backgrounds, accessories( some I had never dreamed) figures, monsters, and much more.
Great for a rainy day or I'm bored day.
If you want to sell artwork, afraid you'll have to do it the old fashion way. Maybe the legal way, draw your own.

This book provides a wealth of top-quality fantasy art resources which can be used for all sorts of creative projects - including board, card and even video games. It's a really attractive book to own, with top quality color printing throughout. If you know your way around Photoshop, but don't have the talent to create artwork for yourself then this book is a complete gold mine.

I was going to buy this book when I saw it in a local bookstore. I decided against it, however, when I read the highly restrictive license the authors/publishers placed the book and CD under.

Basically, I'm prohibited from using any derivative works I create with this book for any reason, any time, without paying royalties. So, if I really like the look of the _arm_ of one of the characters in the book and attach it to a character of my own creation in one frame in my 30 page, 180-frame comic, I'm screwed.

Other clip art books (e.g., Dover) wisely note that the clip art is for actual use, and as long as I don't try to sell their clip art in a clip art book (thereby competing directly), or make a derivative work that is mostly their stuff, they allow me free use of the art I purchase. Unfortunately, Crossley (or his publisher) doesn't understand the purpose of clip art books, and sadly places his "valuable" intellectual property safely out of my reach in any practical way.

A varied selection of black and white line art featuring heraldic devices, charges, crests, helmets, shield designs, and full achievements from all over the world. Perfect for scanning and adaptation in graphics programs.

John Bergling's 1,400 heraldic designs, published in 1913, walks a thin line between trying to depict heraldic designs in a pleasing simple way, and the truly awful 'victoriana' as done by the likes of Fairbairn. His historic interpretation leaves something to be desired (like showing shields with crests only, which is simply 'not done'), and a lot of the American arms are drawn with slightly more Hollywood than Heraldry in mind. But sometimes you can feel some of the original power of heraldry flowing underneath his drawings.

Overall the book is a great launch pad but certainly not sufficient to be used as a stand alone. I would look at other books that offer similar video devotionals, about 95% of the start times for the movies are inaccurate. Unless you seen the movie you will spend a large amount of time trying to find the scenes to make the lesson work. The Publisher is aware of the problem.

The book is set up nicely and easy to follow. It was helpful in our Sunday School rotational class.

Children watch movies over and over again, so why not use some of those movies to help them grow in faith! Grab their attention with a short clip of a popular movie. Follow that with the well-written, age-appropriate Devotion questions as a catalyst to life changing conversations about faith in God. Best part is the author chose movies that are most likely in your own home video/dvd collections.

Gorgeous example of paisley. Very useful crisp plates (as it states in the title PLATES)

As a person involved in art and design, I found this book to be helpful and a nice collection. I love the intricate paisley designs. I think some artists or craftspeople would find this as a nice tool or reference in patterns and variations of paisleys.

This book is only the archival paisley reproduction plates. There is no history nor narrative. I thought that there would be some "discussion". If I realized that it was only the historic plates, I would not have purchased it.

the book has many ideas for design but should've had also ideas for colors and more aplications.

The paisley patterns are well chosen, but I was hoping to see some other interesting textile patterns as well - most of the other patterns included were very boring and not as representative of the broad spectrum of textile patterns found in Indian fabrics...

I am so glad I got this book and I am sure I will use it often. I think it will be very inspirational in things that I want to make with an "all over" pattern or for use in making borders. From looking at the paisleys in the book I can see where paisleys come from and I never really thought of that before.The paisleys may seem the same to some people but I do like seeing so many different ways to do the same thing. I have been happy with most of the Dover books that I have...I think they do a good job!

Printed on one side of the pages only, so you can cut and paste, with real scissors and glue, to your heart's content. You'll not find these drawings hanging on racks at every scrapbooking store in the country. They'll help you give your craft projects original flare and vintage flavor. I found them easy-to cut out - plenty of white space for turning curves. The colors don't run like inkjet colors are apt to. The paper is heavy and glossy. I was very impressed with the book and cd i received. the book has fantastic color pictures and the cd is very easy to navigate.

Although I may be able to use some of these images for smaller craft projects, the pixel density and overall quality is horrible. For me, the selection of images was disappointing, but it depends on individual interests. As usual, the CD was very easy to use. I've purchased other Dover items and it can be a real mixed bag. If only there were some way to "preview" a few images to see the quality in advance.

This book had very few clip art designs that were of any use. The concentrated on some masks but no real designs. The other book had a CD in it and had all the same pictures too. This was a better investment. Wish I had known that before I wasted my money on both books. Neither were very good. Have several Dover clip art books and this was one of the most disappointing.

Traditional African Designs is a book that includes over 200 pieces of clip art from various countries in Africa. The pictures include representations of people, animals, designs, borders, plants and jewelery. I found this book a great resource not only for graphic design and collage projects, but also a great inspiration for jewelery design.

The images of these large windows (churchs, etc) are beautiful but the description of the book did not explain this. I had ordered the book for small glass projects. I decided to keep the book since I might get an idea for a small panel but probably not.

This book contains hundreds of interesting patterns covering the periods of Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, the 1930s, and the 1940s. It is a quite nice collection encompassing a large variety of shapes and varying in complexity from quite simple to truely eleborate.

Great variety of basic designs. Print quality of book is not the greatest, but if you're used to blowing up your designs and working with them, this will be just fine. This is a very good book for a collection.

ok book.... but if I had been in a store with time to really look into it I might of passed.....

I have a Victorian rowhouse, built in 1875, that I've been painting and stencilling for over 10 years (. . . full walls, ceilings, etc.). Periodically, I go on the prowl for anything on Victorian design -- so that at this point, I've just about cornered the market for books on the subject. (Lately, they're starting to re-publish the same materials -- with the graphics on CD. Definitely a plus!)

This book has always been one of my favorites (despite no CD) because, not only are the designs relatively large and clearly printed, but they are all rendered in fairly authentic Victorian colorations. I also haven't encountered some of the designs (especially hard-to-find Anglo-Japanese patterns) in any other books. I photocopy the patterns, usually enlarging them, and convert them into stencils. This book works very well for that, and has been the anchor for several of my most effective projects. It's a gem.

I have several Victorian pattern books and hoping to find more adorable / but seems they have nearly everything the same except the cover, different publishers. One is more than enough .....
