There are no words that can possibly praise this book and this man enough. The seth material is the only other writing that is on par with Nisargadatta. Truly a completely enlightened being, and an example of what we all can become and are becoming.

If you're ever looking for all the wisdown contained in the great spiritual traditions condensed and explained clearly in volume, this book is a great place to go to. As with all great spiritual teachings, this book makes us realise the astounding sinmplicity of the realised state. It illustrates the law that the more complex a spiritual teaching system is, the less wisdom and truth it contains. I came across this book through Eckhart Tolle's recommended reading list. There are other great books there too - highly recommended is The Fall by Steve Taylor. The Fall: The Evidence for a Golden Age, 6,000 years of Insanity and the Dawning of a New Era

I Am That. How beautifull to know i am nobody, and yet, everything.
Searching since i was 15 my library became immense at one point in time.
Now at 33 my library is narrowed down to this book, Tolle's books and maharshi.
What a relief this book was, so perfectly dialogued.
Two pages read upon starting my day ceases thought, if there was any to begin with, and just saying, 'i am' a few times pulls me into reality.
A simple Yes to life, and, I Am.

Nisargadatta informs the ego and the intellect of all that it is not and he couples this path of knowledge with a profound devotion that will stop your search for enlightenment to realize who you are here and now. You are what you are seeking and in seeking, you cannot be found. We rest in the joy of being, simply "I am." This instruction was offered to Nisargadatta by his teacher and with great love and respect for him, he followed his instruction and stopped all effort. In three years, he Self-realized.
"I am That" is divided into 101 chapters and is a compilation of direct dialogues that Nisargadatta had with his students. The translation of the book is natural and flows very nicely. It includes an occassional photograph of Nisargadatta that emulates the devotion that he was sensing at the moment. "I am That" begins with an Introduction by Douwe Tiermersma on the Philosophical Faculty of Erasmus University in Holland. It is followed by a short Biography of Nisargadatta and a note from the translator about how the book was created as well as a short note from the editor. The first appendix is Nisarga Yoga and shares the simple abode and life of Nisargadatta. The second appendix is Navanath Sampradaya and offers a history and structure of sects in India. The final appendix is a complete and quite helpful glossary of terms found in the book.
The dialogues begin with the sense of "I am" and brings attention to the here and now to live in the present moment. He masterfully moves us beyond the ego and its thinking to stand free of thought, so that we may witness them without identification. He immediately then points to the Awareness and Consciousness that is the perceiving. Nisargadatta also frees us from identification with the body; we are not the person, but rather the Reality that is beyond.
We see that the highest bliss is desirelessness and the answer is to turn our mind's attention inward by asking the question, "Who am I?" He dynamically leads us to a profound detachment from form and to continue resting solely in "I am." The only time to realize freedom is Now and that Life can be the teacher, when we allow it to be as it is and notice that life is happening by itself. He shifts us beyond the duality of a pleasure that cycles to pain to realize the Bliss of True Self.
When we begin observing, we recognize all that we are not. We brush off the dust of the mind, its time and all of its false concepts and what remains is who we really are. He points that insecurity is not in the life situation and that it is sourced within the dual mind. When we break free of thought and ever more subtle layers of the intellect, we discouver the absolute security of the changeless. Nisargadatta warns that when we follow the desires of the mind, they may be fulfilled, but discontentment will surely once again resurface and that by following desire, we are breeding more desire and that quest will prove to be endless. Beyond the mind, we are free of both fear and desire and therefore free of all suffering.
He consistently reminds his students that bondage is a delusion and the freedom of True Self already is within them. He urges to seek the very source of consciousness itself, the deepest root of collective suffering. If it is not eradicated, even after awakening, it will surface to be freed.
"I am" is the foundation of all experience and the doorway to discover ever present peace. Here, we shift beyond all space and time.
Sooner or later, you will be lead to this spirtual classic in the maturity of your search for enlightenment. "I am That" will at last stop the search. I find this book an essential teaching, a must read, from an extraordinary sage. I also recommend the other final teaching in the book and spiritual classic "Be as You Are" by Sri Ramana Maharshi that is edited by David Godman. Free Spirit is a new book written by my husband and teaching partner, Sundance Burke, who awakened twenty-five years ago.

I have never been a big fan of books on CD. This changed with Gift from the Sea with the forward by Reeve Lindbergh and beautifully read by Claudette Colbert. This is a beautifully written and recorded book. I keep it in my car and play it quite often. I have orderered additional copies to share with friends. It is indeed as relevant today as it was fifty years ago and probably even more pertinent in today's fast paced world where we fail to slow down give ourselves alone time to comtemplate our lives. Reeve Lindbergh's forward about her mother was a lovely bonus. Although I have not read any of her childrens books, I have read everything else she has written that I can find and encourage anyone who has not read her books to check her out on [...].

Eventhough this book was written almost sixty years ago, it speaks to women today. Anne Morrow Lindburgh writes as though she is visiting with the reader. It is so easy to hear the sea, see the sea shell she is describing and feel as though you truly know this author. This is a book I will read again and again, as well as give as a gift.

This is a must read for anyone & especially for women (of all ages). I
re-read it every few years just to be rejuvinated again. I've been giving
it ,for yrs., as gifts to special friends. The last time I gave it to my
friend ( a Presby. lay pastor)who took it with her from the WV mts. to
her family home in Fla....she read it while on the beach & upon returning used it as the basis for her sermon for Women's Sunday. Each time I find
something "new/eye-opening & worthy" in the examination of the shells to
our individual lives.

It's truly rare to discover a book that literally changes your life, but this book is one of them. Mr. Robbins meticulously researches and presents an argument for how one's diet can change not only one's personal well being but the well being of all sentient beings, including the sum of the parts (our planet Earth). This book makes it clear that through our personal dietary choices we can either save the planet (and ourselves) or ignore the problems until it's too late. And although the book implicitly argues for the adoption of a vegetarian diet, it's my hope that people not willing to go that far will at least start making conscious decisions about the purchase of animal products, and realize that supporting humane agriculture is a form of philanthropy that they realize direct benefit from (e.g., it simply tastes better).
In an age of information overload and seemingly insurmountable global problems this book gives rise to a feeling of personal power and the ability to literally change our lives and the planet with every bite we eat. I will rank this as one of the most important books I have read in my lifetime, and I encourage everyone to read it and pass it along to a friend (or enemy).

I never thought I'd give up meat. After I saw a video on Cnn.com about slaughterhouses I became interested and picked up this book. While living in ignorance may seem easier, I think John Robbins is right when he says the truth will set you free. Not only is the information life changing, but he has a very eloquent way of writing. I'm often easily distracted and have a difficult time reading books but i read through the majority of the book in only a few days. I can't imagine many read this book and don't decide to become vegetarian, John Robbins is a remarkable individual.

Hill's book truly gives you words to live by. Realism, faith and hope in the future are the key themes of this book. As a reader, you are looking into the world of a young person trying and seeking to find his path. Gladly, Hill picks up the baton that was thrown to him by his mentors of the past and follows through by showing this youth a new way of thinking and living. His advice is so pure and genuine that it crosses the boundaries of gender and race--this is something that all folks need to hear! This book is the ultimate self help guide for those who have lost their way, need to find their way or need an affirmation that they are well on their way. Harper's words are definitely needed and should be cherished.

I have a 12 yr old son that has been going through some rough times at school with wanting to do well, but being teased for it. Junior High is/was/will always be a tough time. My son and I read this book together and then discussed anything we felt needed discussing. He started to feel "normal" knowing that a lot of people were experiencing the same things as him, even celebrities like Will Smith, someone he looks up to. I HIGHLY suggest this book to boys of any race. Thank you Hill Harper!!!!

I picked this book up because it was chosen as THE Best Book for Young People by the American Library Association for 2007. That is quite an endorsement. I had never heard of the author or seen his TV show.
"Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny" was outstanding! I wish I could put a copy in every single young person's hands. While the title implies that the book is especially relevant title for young black males, anyone would find this book inspirational.
I loved hearing about Hill's grandfathers and family life. The way he described what could be learned in a single-parent household was so lovingly described and unusual to hear. I also respected how vulnerable the author made himself by sharing his mistakes. The stories create incredibly powerful and interesting lessons.
This is a great gift to give to any young man between ages 14-20.

I happened upon this book by chance, and it is quite possibly the best book I've ever read. If you are looking for a book to inspire you and give you a positive outlook on life, this is it. It is incredibly refreshing and easy to read. Rather than one long story, it is a bunch of short stories, which makes it great for reading a little bit at a time. It has really helped me remember what is important in life. After reading this book, I can't wait to read other books by this author.

What a wonderful thing it would be if we all had a grandfather like Rachel Naomi Remen had. Since we don't, the next best thing might be to learn the lessons and experience the blessings by having her share her stories about him with us. She does so in a beautiful, almost under stated way that is never intrusive and leaves us with a feeling of deep appreciation. These are very human and moving parable like stories that enrich our connection to each other in almost imperceptible ways. Although this is definitely not a how to book, the stories may effect how we live our lives. Thank you to Dr. Remen.

As a reader of many self-help books, this book is concise, very readable and gives presents a way of 'being' which I haven't seen before. Society teaches most of us through competitive sports or by having to climb the corporate ladder that for us to gain someone must lose. Reading this book really made me examine my way of thinking and is helping me create some good things in my life. I think everyone will be able to gain something they can apply in their lives that will help.

The Compassionate Samurai is a very straight forward read and the best book I've read on how to create extraordinary results in your personal and professional life. Brian Klemmer gives us a road map showing us how to walk through life with important key qualities that affect not only our lives but those around us as well. In this world of increased enlightenment, this is a book you should keep at your side at all times.

What a great book. It is a reminder that a positive attitude and blief system can bring about great results. The old ways just don't seem to work in this world of "change". It is nice to read something that allows you to both be powerful and "compassionate". I live this way and it has worked well for me. Now I have a book I can provide to other and allow them to validate their choices. This is one of those books that I will keep forever and reference from time to time to keep me moving forward.

I loved this book and how it gives examples on using the 10 leadership traits to impact the world and create positive change in your life as well as the lives of others. This book expands on the principle of Win / Win to impact not just the person you are interacting with but the community and world as well.

The people writing reviews of this book must be the brainwashed True Believers of Klemmer's LGAT seminars. I read this book because my True Believer boss lent it to me. He's being the good salesman for the cause, as he bankrupts himself shelling out thousands of dollars to reprise his past role as the anxious child who doesn't quite measure up to abusive Dad's expectations. Sorry to counter the glowing praise uniformly lavished, but this book is a recitation of common-sense advice available in any fourth-grade boy scout book about how to be a good, dependable citizen. He dresses this schlock up in the warrior garb of a fantasy creature called a "Compassionate Samurai", an influential and powerful Carnegie-esque good guy. What a laugh! Klemmer invokes his highly romanticized image of a warrior in militarized feudal Japan, then sticks the absurd adjective "compassionate" on the front of it and ends up with something that's only meaningful to people with no critical thinking capabilities. This absurd image is a wonderful metaphor for the utter manipulative, brainwashing insanity of the LGAT money-extraction game.

"Freedom from the Known" by Krishnamurti is a book about humanity's search for Truth and ultimate freedom... Krishnamurti takes you on a journey beyond material welfare.
In 'Freedom from the Known' Krishnamurti deals with such timeless questions as 'what is it all about?" and 'has life any meaning?' Krishnamurti acknowledges the confusion, brutalities, divisions, and endless frustrations of life, and finally asks the question 'what is one to do?' The rest of the book delves into answering this question both from a universal and personal perspective.
Thought provoking and deep.
Great when read together with NEXUS, a psychological & spiritual New Age novel where the main character struggles with confusion, frustration & challenges in his life.

"Freedom from the Known" is really a nice book for someone who wants to understand the deep philosophy extended by Krishnamurthi. It seems a little abstract but as you move on it gets somewhat clear. I still haven't understood some of the sections of this book. Nevertheless, I am really impressed with the way he has put deep philosophy into layman's language..It's really a rewarding book for someone who wants to know more on the way of life..

I found this book while looking through a bookstore recently and it has changed my life. It's going to replace at least 10 books on my bookshelf. K answers all of the things I've been asking for a long time, without answering them at all. The contents will turn your world upside down if you're open to it.

The point of reading Krishnamurti is not to argue whether he is right or wrong or to decide whether you agree or disagree. The point of reading this book is as a stimulus to your own thinking and questioning. The point of this book is to learn to ask better questions, not repeat Krishnamurti's answers. I have read a number of his books and find Freedom from the Known one of his best. Don't accept or reject anything that he says. Just read it, open your mind and grow.

The book Driven provides a comprehensive and practical guide to students and
management in the essential elements of how an organization can create Shareholder Value. As the Practice Leader of Value Based Management at
Hewitt Associates and the Architect of our Human Capital Foresight capability, I commend the authors' incorporation of the important people
related considerations -- typically given just lip service in most books
in this area. In my own writing I actally quoted a portion of the book to
help me describe the relevance of top down value driver mapping.

Driven is well articulated vision of how a business should be run. I find that Driven is more than a book, it is an overarching philosophy that helps me in framing my current venture and how I seek to act in my chosen marketplace. This book is certainly serving as tool to help shorten my learning curve in my current marketplace. Great book, great read! My hats off to Frigo and Litman.

Being a former student of the two authors, I am excited that their works have finally been published and therefore made available to others, who, I am certain, will find the approach outlined on strategy execution helpful.
Whereas other strategy books are often too complex to comprehend or extract value from, DRIVEN provides a clear and concise approach to the reader that can be applied in a professional, value-adding environment, or for personal fact-finding.

Driven is an essential read for CEOs and Senior managers. In a clear and readable style it successfully sets forth a road map for the creation of long term wealth. Commencing with the basic premise that businesses must operate within ethical boundaries,
the book describes the other ten tenets of Return Driven Strategy related to customers, processes, partners and employees. Functional silos are demolished and Dr Frigo and Joel Litman do an exceptional job of interrelating disciplines. Each tenet is illustrated by one or more well chosen corporate examples. I especially appreciated the diagnostic questions at the end of each chapter which encourage the reader to focus on the application of the concepts and lessons learned to his own company. The book will also provide a valuable tool for investment managers and individual investors to identify companies whose shares have a high probability of producing long run returns. Once read, Driven will be kept in the top drawer and referred to often

I bought this book because I read all the wonderful reviews and frankly I was extremely disappointed. I am a real dog lover and melt at the sight of any dog but these photos lack life. They look like mannequins and very few of them show the wonderful expressions we so often see in dogs and which make dogs so utterly lovable. For a book that is trying to tug at your heart on the subject of shelter dogs, it has failed spectacularly.
Give this book a miss.

This book gives us details on shelter dogs, who the author Traer Scott, has met in her travels. So touching, uplifting and heartbreaking, especially when we learn so much about them and are told at the end which dogs lived and were adopted...and which ones were not (sniffle)...If this book doesn't convince you to adopt from an animal shelter, then I don't know what will! A portion of the proceeds from this book and Scott's other book, Street Dogs, are donated to animal charities. Worth it to buy both! Thanks for this great, insightful look at America's animal shelters.

..of finding the soul of her subjects, and showing us all what loving, intelligent, sensitive creatures these abandoned companions truly are!
As the proud "parent" of five rescued canines (and three rescued felines), I can only express my regret that our "forever home" cannot accommodate more: I'd take in each and every one of these lost souls that she captures so hauntingly.
Complaint has been lodged that Ms. Scott erred by not including each animal's bio with their photograph, but I take exception to that: The impact is magnified, when the photograph alone is displayed.
My only dissatisfaction might be that the book is too short, and I can only implore the author to continue her exceptional work with additional issues: If only more people could truly see these loving creatures through the "eye" of her camera, perhaps our shelters would not be so full, and "euthanization" could become anachronistic...

Amidst all of the calamity, lust, sex, & promiscuity that is in the world, this is a book that can bring about change. Thank you Shellie for keepin' it real. It took strength that truly had to come from God to tell your story.
Having had some of the same experiences of the author Shellie Warren, all I could say is WOW and that I must MOVE in sharing this word. Her book has prompted me to start planning on speaking with young adults and late teens at my place of worship and at the local H.S.'s to get the word out. We must equip our young people with information to make better choices in life. That's the very reason that God allowed her to write this book!
I am firm, when I say "This Book Will Bring About Change !!!"

Kudos to Shellie R. Warren on writing such a powerful message filled book. The author of this book could be anyone of us because in some form or fashion we all have been a victim of poor decision making that led to unhealthy relationships etc.
"Inside of Me" is just another example of not being able to have a testimony without the test. It's a must read for all ages and genders.

This is an awesome book for all to read. The experiences that Shellie shares are as real as it gets. It should be shared with young men and women to let them know that they will have choices to make and their decisions will have an impact on thier lives as well as others around them. I am proud of Shellie for being brave enough to share with us her experiences so that hopefully we can avoid some of the things that she endured. I have seen alot of comments that say "this is a must read for women"... just to clarify, this is a book "for everyone- men and women." I am a 24 year old guy and read this book in 2 days. God has certainly blessed Shellie with tremendous writing ability. You will not be dissapointed with this book...
