Assembly Language for Kids - Commodore 64 is a great book for the beginning assembly language programmer - even if you are an adult. Sanders provides simple explanations and several excercises for the programmer to learn from. He has provided these examples using three different assemblers - Merlin64 (by Robert Wagner Publishing), Commodore Assembly Development System (I'm using this one), and Kids Assembler (which is included and can be typed in).

I recommend Merlin64 or Commodore's assembler. They have a lot more to offer and make it more fun to learn.

By the time I made it to the end, I found I wanted more examples.

Also, here is a list of some errors I found:

Page 85: ".A C000 20 44 55 JSR $E544" should be corrected to ".A C000 20 44 E5 JSR $E544".

Page 100: It reads "0+64+0+4+0+4+0+1=73 Decimal" and should be corrected to "0+64+0+16+0+4+0+1=85 Decimal".

Page 161: Bold print reads "ADDRESS=POINTER STORED IN ZERO PAGE + X REGISTER VALUE=LOCATION OF ADDRESS" and should read "ADDRESS=POINTER STORED IN ZERO PAGE + Y REGISTER VALUE=LOCATION OF ADDRESS".

Page 257: "SPRITE0 =$7F8" should read "SPRITE0 =$FF8", and label "SPRITE0" is to long. Shorten to 6 character or less and make corrections to the rest of the program as necessary. Also, "CLEANUP" at the bottom of the page is too long-make the same corrections.

Overall, despite some typographical errors, this is a fabulous book and I highly recommend it to anyone still interested in assembly language progamming on the Commodore 64.
