I am a high school football coach and competitive martial artist. This book is very easy to understand and provides great information for any athlete trying to reach peak conditioning or average person trying to stay fit. The nutrition information in this book is something I try get across to my players in order to make them better and I also follow it myself. To me, the most impressive part of this book is how easy it is to understand. I would recommend this book for any athlete, coach, personal trainer, business person, or homemaker that would like to improve their physical fitness level.

Best book on exercise , A requirement for any level athlete!

I heartily recommend this book! As a school administrator, I can attest to the fact that it has made a world of difference for both new and experienced teachers alike in my school. Its approach to bridging the gap between theory and real-world examples is extremely useful in helping any teacher design more effective lesson plans.

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WEIGHT TRAINING
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2001-02-21
You will find THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WEIGHT TRAINING to be a good reference book and resource tool. Do not leave home without it!

The contents is basically textual in nature with a lot of easy to understand tables and figures which enhances comprehension. The book does not address the specifics of how to perform exercises but there are thousands of books that do that.

This book deals with the science of training and how to format a training program along with sound training principles and solid nutritional information that helps to ensure your success in training.

The cycling and periodization of training is very important for success in general fitness, bodybuilding and training for sport. This book is loaded with useful information, examples and principles that will get you on the road to success and very quickly.

It has great examples of periodization for all levels of training. Moreover, the nutritional information is solid and easy to grasp.

All people (young or old, male or female) as well as high school and college students and personal trainers should have it for their library.

You will not get the insight and information from any other source that you will find in the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WEIGHT TRAINING.

I highly recommend it. Buy one NOW and be ahead of the crowd.

You will never loan this book to anyone because it will not be returned because of it great value. It is truly a "pearl of great price."

As an OD consultant, I have read many books on team building activities. From most books I typically like one out of five exercises. Games Trainers Play Outdoors is awesome! I like every exercise. They are practical and open to adaptations as needed by the audience. I strongly recommend it.

I stumbled across this book and found it to be quite a treasure. I am a youth leader for our church and found these games to be ideal for building unity and having fun together. There are 75 games in all. The games are well illustrated and explained clearly. This is a great resource for fun, purpose-filled games for many age groups.

Thoroughbred Breeding Dynasty

Review Date: 2008-04-24
Great Breeders like the Hancocks are truly legendary men, whose impact on Thoroughbred racing and breeding will continue to be felt well into this millenium. The insights into their selection of breeding stock and successful development of continuing sire lines should be studied by all breeders and horse owners. Their firm beliefs in how to breed classic winning horses has stood the tests of time. If more people studied their priorities and methods, the days of a trend toward more 2YO and sprint racing could be reversed. Their ability to breed horses that could run distances at 10f and up at 3, remain sound, and pass their excellence to later generations. There is a tradition at Claiborne to put each new stallion in the stall of his sire(upon the sire's death), with the brass nameplates of former occupants. I will never forget visiting Secretariat only 2 years from his death and looking at his stall. Above his name was Nasrullah, Bold Ruler, and Secretariat(Risen Star followed). Horses whose influence, along with another Claiborne stallion, Mr. Prospector, are still infuencing racing through the excellence of their grandsons and granddaughters. This book is full of history, theory, practices, family issues, and fully defines the title of Great Breeders.

The authors have done a nice job of assembling essential information for the IFR pilot. The IFR Pocket Guide is a great resource for studying and brushing up on all that one needs to know to fly safely and proficiently in the IFR system. It also includes blank forms (clearance, PIREP...) to help with cockpit organization. The size makes if perfect for taking along with you when you fly. When flying, my IFR Guide is always with me. If you fly IFR, the IFR Pocket Guide should be with you too!

Great review of IFR procedures.

As a struggling IFR student, this pocket size book has helped me to not only learn procedures, approches, and systems, it has also enabled me to figure out the jargon, jumble, and seeming mumble of flying in good weather and foul. The memory aids -Goose a Cat is my personal favorite - can be literal lifesavers. The probable best, I use it almost everytime I fly, feature of this little manual is the Holding Pattern Entry Computer. It's set up for both left and right turns and puts approches in perspective in real and simulated conditions. Use this book a couple of times and you'll be as hooked on this book as I am.

Micky's SO Inspiring!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-29
It's a cute concept - to have a little Boston Terrior tell us all we need to know about pet therapy. Mickey is an engaging narrator and I enjoyed reading his story. But this book offers lots, lots more than entertainment. It lets you see from the ground up what it's like for a dog and his owner to train and work as a pet therapy team.

This book answers many questions I've had about pet therapy. What kind of dogs can do it? What does pet therapy involve? How do you and your dog train and qualify for being in such a program? Where can I find resources about pet therapy? How do the folks who have the pets visit benefit?

All these questions, and most of all the last, are answered in a very satisfying, accessible fashion. _Lapdog Therapy_ is very inspiring as it demonstrates with words, photographs and beautiful watercolours how Mickey and Winnie make a difference to the folks at a retirement community near their house. Therapy dogs are needed and loved for many reasons and in many ways by the older people pictured and described in this book. (I must note that I was very happy with the respectful way the folks in the retirement home were presented.)

At the end of the story, there are dozens of resources (most of which can be contacted by email).

Thank you, Mickey! My mastiffs can never do "lapdog therapy" (except maybe for the Jolly Green Giant), but I see they and I could qualify to do pet therapy.

Canine author and therapy dog Mickey offers a furry-fresh perspective on animal-assisted activities in his book LapDog Therapy. An educational and entertaining read for anyone who is - or wants to be - involved in this rewarding world of human-animal interaction.

An added benefit for Canadian readers is the inclusion of Canadian contact information in the well laid-out reference section.

Author's advice: Get the Skills Illustration Video + book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-26

Note from the Authors:

The book is most effective when used in tandem with a video we produced. The book is for the therapist; the video is for you to show to your clients. In realistic settings, actors clearly demonstrate the skills taught during the skills training sessions. For example, one scene shows how to refuse drugs offered by a friend. Another shows how to discuss a relapse with a support person. Use the video to help clients visualize the skill before they begin to practice it themselves.

The Overcoming Addictions Skills Illustration Video is available from: W. W. Norton and Company at WWNorton.com

At WWNorton.com, click "Search Our Site," then type: Overcoming Addictions (don't use quotations).

You should get several links including the one for the video. The VHS version looks like this:
