I was so excited when I got this book. I thought it would educate me on what I needed to do for my child. It basically lays out the IEP process and doesn't give any indications on how to fight for services, which we all know is what usually happens. Find another book.

An Important Book

While this book doesn't tell you how to milk the system for all it's worth, it does a good job of laying out a plan that should help you and your child's teacher produce an optimal IEP. It's a helpful workbook that aids in the understanding and use of the IEP.

Save your money....does nothing in the case of a difficult school district. The idea of "compromising and understanding" the teachers position is nice in a flowery perfect kind of world way....doesn't work when you are trying to get your kid the best you can.

I just finished viewing the DVD. It just goes over the main topics equivalent to just reading the topics of the chapters and moving on. If you really want to pass this test you need to read the book, so if you like a HTML version e-book feel free to buy, otherwise it is cheaper to purchase the book.

Good companion to the book.

The basis of all Cisco Certification is the CCNA and as such there is an abundance of material out there. This software in particular has both the CD and DVD included to help in the learning process.

Installation was a snap and I was up and running in minutes and the 2 plus hours of video information included on the DVD was nothing short of amazing. The material is self paced, easy to follow along and the instructions are in a step by step guide.

Following along the video you'll learn how to setup and work with VLANs, Switches, version 12.0 of the IOS, subnetting, static and dynamic routes, access lists, of which the coverage of IPX lists are a little on the light side, ISDN and Frame Relay.

The CD-rom using the ExamSim testing software has over 375 questions to practice with before going live and an e-book of the Osborne CCNA Study guide to use along with everything else. Overall for the money this seems a viable alternative to formal classroom training.

This book has some wonderful projects and ideas. It is definitely directed at a Christian perspective, which is not clear from the information on this Amazon page! Aside from this fact, the book has some very nice ideas and is well-laid out. I wish I had known before I bought the book how heavily religious the projects are.

This resource is for an ambitious, talented, socially outgoing, Sunday School teacher with a preference for role playing and acting. Although I always looked for new, innovated ways for teaching Sunday School while I was doing it, this book didn't motivate me to do anything differently at all. For one thing, if you work full time and then volunteer your time to teach, your time to prepare for Sunday school is limited. For me it would have taken me much, much longer to prepare my lessons then if I did things my usual, traditional way. I didn't find that this would be a good resource to use for very young children, who need directions to be specific and simple. I would probably condider it more useful to older grades, like 8th grade and up. Ijust didn't feel this book was applicable to my class of first to third graders.

A hurried piece of work
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.

This is generally a disappointing book. While the authors attempt to describe the principles of education in the context of teaching medical students, they appear to have, in the process, extended their ambition to cover the entire spectrum of issues in medical education. The end result is that the content in the book has become too diverse and difficult to manage. This is evident by the large number of ultra-short chapters in the book.

In trying to cover too wide a scope, the conciseness of the writing style does not work to the authors' advantage. It becomes difficult to explain the basic educational concepts when the text is too short. A significant number of grammatical and spelling errors fill the text. They unfortunately distract the readers' attention from focusing on the subject matter.

The first author does not sound like a Chinese. It is perplexing therefore as to why he chooses to use an example in the Chinese language to illustrate his text, and, in the process makes a blatant mistake that is not picked up by his co-author, whom I belief is a Chinese.

While he was describing curriculum reform and how to cope with change, he made the statement that: 'The Chinese character for "change" has dual connotations to it: on the one hand it means "danger", on the other hand it also means "opportunity."

For anyone who is familiar with the Chinese language, this statement is obviously wrong. The Chinese word that has dual connotations of danger and opportunity is not "change" but "crisis". It worries me as to why such a fundamental mistake has gone unnoticed by the editors and found its way to print.

Many educational principles are described in the book, but they lack adequate illustrative examples. Going by the nature of the examples included, one of the authors is likely to be a paediatrician. While the book does give a broad overview of what medical education is all about, it may not necessarily have explained the "basics" adequately, simply because too much scope is being covered. This is not a book that the reader is likely to be keen to keep on his shelf for reference. The content is far too skimpy and superficial.

I bought this book thinking it targeted ideas for all kinds of volunteers, but it really only targets Children's Ministry workers. It had a few good ideas, but none that I had not already thought of myself. If you are brand new to church volunteerism - you may want to purchase it - but for those who have been doing it awhile - it could be a waste of money.

While this book might be useful to stretch the minds of managers seeking alternate ways to "reach out to" customers and employees, the title makes it easy to mistake the book for a guide to INNOVATIVE business WRITING, which it clearly is NOT. It is also not a place to get on the path to creating communications that are really "outside the box." Many of the 399 ideas given are commonplace nowadays and as a reader I found myself getting irritated that I had to spend $14.95 to read about marketing gimmicks I have already been the recipient of many times. To summarize, I felt this book was dated...not particularly well laid-out... and the few illustrations/cartoons peppered throughout were often printed too small to understand easily. I plan to return this book.

The 6th edition of this text was released in 2005, but should be roughly 608 pages. This is listed as such in another listing under the same title, though the softcover info for this text also seems to be incorrect. If this is the correct text the list price is also significantly higher for new texts. Double check before you buy ... though I tried and couldn't figure out how to do so.

A descriptive, and systematic coverage of facilitation
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-07
The approach taken is descriptive rather than prescriptive. Indeed, the authors insist that it is neither possible nor desirable to set out a prescriptive approach to build a learning organisation. The book relies heavily on extended case studies and includes substantial biographical detail on the leaders and key facilitators in the selected cases, as well as extended invited contributions by four of them. These case studies are used to illustrate the main shared features that the authors have observed in successful transformation to an organisation that is able to learn as part of its continuing functioning. Key features on which they focus include the use of 'action technologies' (action research, action learning and action science), a systemic view of change and an emphasis on the power of partnership between HR professionals and line managers.

The three 'action technologies' that lie at the heart of their preferred methodologies are jargon terms for: ß a research and design methodology that iterates from diagnosis through vision building and alignment to experiments and reassessment ß action learning using a number of devices to integrate learning and work, and ß the use of the techniques of skilled conversation and group learning to identify and resolve issues - the process of cycling between action and reflection and the principles involved in 'double loop learning' The conclusions are unsurprising, but it is useful to see them reinforced.

The authors do a service in reminding us that, while there are universal underlying principles, the move towards a learning organisation is an exploration and its steps can not be codified. Those who like to learn through case studies will find the book useful and practising facilitators will probably find it useful to 'compare notes' with those quoted in the book. However, it certainly does not replace any of my established favourites in this field.

A piece of war propoganda disguised as an adventure story and a continuous dumb Polish guy theme
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-05
This adventure story for adolescent boys depicts the life of a soldier as one of great adventure and challenge. Written in 1918 after the United States entered World War I, it has the main characters joining the U. S. army and going off to boot camp. While they are put through their paces and their life in camp is hard, the brutality of the war in Europe is but an abstraction to them. Simply put, this book can be considered an element of propaganda to entice young men to join. When a man dies, he is referred to as having "gone west."
There is a semi-literate Polish boy in the camp and he speaks a simplistic form of English, which is contrary to what the reality would be. Young people who came to the United States learned English very quickly, certainly to an extent greater than depicted here. The Polish boy is also portrayed as slow witted, which of course is the continuous expression of an ethnic slur.
While some allowances have to be made for the passage of time, this book is one that is only useful as an expression of historical situational context.
