Basic NLP prescribed to the trainer
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-12
Maybe I'm biased by the exorbitant cost of the book in wanting something much more substantial than what is offered. Gower publisher has proved to be disappointing again. For those who don't have any knowledge of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), the book can still be useful for picking up some basic ideas of NLP and how they can be applied to the trainer. But the book is full of platitudes: the world is changing, training should change, training needs to be proactive rather than reactive, be more customer oriented.... The regurgitation of the NLP concepts and principles are rather dry. The detailed prescriptions for the trainer probably reflect the author's own personality tendencies. For those familiar with Myers-Briggs, she is probably very high in Judging, wanting things to be methodic and systematic. Someone high in Perception wants much more spontaneity and cannot tolerate such straight-jackets. A good trainer, especially when trained in NLP, models what he/she teaches. Here we miss the rich and lively communication of stories, metaphors and illustations that lead to understanding and unconscious assimilation and mastery. However, those who seriously follow through all the listed steps, I trust they can still benefit much from the book.

This book was "average" for a textbook.
The graphs and charts are excellent, however the author is not very engaging while presenting the material.

I got this book for a class at Central Texas College to fulfill my PE Credits. The book had lots of good information but tended to be repetitive and had a definite liberal leaning.

Tech-based Training
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-30
This book is an excellent resource for the trainer who has loads of training but little experience in tech-based training.

This book offers clarity, but industry-related terminology that will allow you to easily transfer current knowledge into this method of delivery. As a visual learner, this helped me to easily create a draft curriculum, applying the newly-suggested techniques.

However, as an improvement, I recommend more examples from diverse industries (occupational), especially training related to conceptual tasks.

I strongly encourage teachers/trainers of practical skills to include this book in their reference libraries.

Thank you.

Interesting, good to know, but lacks practicality
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Angus McIlwraith's book "Information Security and Employee Behaviour" is interesting and well-written, but not enormously useful with regard to the practical matter of implementing a security awareness program.

The first section, "A Framework For Understanding", succeeds in presenting important individual and group psychological factors to consider when seeking to change employee behavior.

However, the second section, "A Framework For Implementation" just gives high-level implementation steps and then describes in great detail only two aspects of implementing a security awareness program - measuring awareness, and choosing delivery media. No practical methodologies are presented. One has the sense that there are several chapters missing. It would have been a more useful book if all five steps in developing an awareness program proposed by the author in chapter 4 had been elaborated upon.

If you are someone looking for practical help in putting together an entire security awareness program, by far the best book out there at this point is "Managing an Information Security and Privacy Awareness and Training Program by Rebecca Herold.

Unique to this book were the several alternative methods shown to tape a single joint/muscle. The artist schetches used to show the correct method of taping were not as nice as the photos in Perrin's book, but they did convey the needed information.

Good but Superfluous

This book is great for students who need an extra boost organizing/planning for fieldwork but was superfluous for me. I found that although the book had some helpful background info, I could have done without it. Most of the info in the book is obtainable through other sources (e.g. OT school lectures). However, for those who need an extra something to keep them on top of things, this book is for you!

Excellent in theory. Wonderful when it works. Requires great intelligenceself-discipline and great and subtle paradigm shifts. In actual practice quite disapointing. When it works it is what being a parent is all about. Would love to hear from those who have had better results than I have. Idealogically I'm there real life, welllllll
