Groove has been around for about 7 years now and since it was bought by Microsoft in 2004 has enjoyed increasing popularity and usage. What was always missing was a resource that allowed "Joe/Jane user" to really understand how to get the best out of this intriguing application.

Well, now you can quickly and easily make your self an expert or just a very competant user; thanks to this book. I have used Groove for a while and found some of the concepts a bit difficult to grasp. Groove is different and having an expert guide like this has helped me to open up a whole new world of possibilities and opportunites to use the tool to it's full extent.

If you have Groove (or are thinking aboout it) this is a MUST have!

Really A Quick Start...

I really enjoyed reading this book, because it is similar in many ways to the book that we used. PowerPoint for Windows is a book that gives you systematic information. This book has the most recent version of PowerPoint and its current features.

Chapter 1: It introduces what PowerPoint exactly is and how it works. With PowerPoint, you can get creative with the slides, variety of formats, such as bulleted lists, numeric tables, and business and organization charts. For example, you can create your slides in any design you want by easily adding graphics to it. In addition, this chapter explains how to use:
* The PowerPoint Interface
* PowerPoint Menus
* Toolbars
* Shortcut Menus
* Task Panes
* Getting Help
* Using Undo

Chapter 2: Gives you a tour of PowerPoint. It shows you from how to begin the program, choosing a template, choosing a layout, creating a chart, saving, opening, and closing the presentations to viewing the slide show. In addition, this chapter explains how to use:
* Creating a Bulleted List
* Creating a Chart
* Choosing a Chart Type
* Formatting a Chart
* Navigating a Presentation
* Using normal View
* Using the Outline Pane
* Using Slide Sorter View
* Using Transitions and Animations

Chapter 3: You learn how to create slides that contain text and how to edit and format the text. Slide shows that consist of text primarily are bulleted lists or two-column text. In addition, this chapter explains how to use:
* Choosing a Text Layout
* Entering Text into a Placeholder
* Creating a Text Box
* Manipulating Text Placeholders
* Moving Text
* Using the Spell Checker
* Correcting Mistakes Automatically
* Working with Smart Tags

Chapter 4 thru 20: In chapter 4 thru 20 it teaches you more in depth how to use PowerPoint for the following:
* Inserting Charts
* Formatting Charts
* Creating Pie Charts
* Using Organization Charts and Diagrams
* Creating Tables
* Adding Graphical Objects
* Importing Graphics
* Manipulating Graphical Objects
* Making Global Changes
* Working in Outline View
* Working in Slide Sorter View
* Producing a Slide Show
* Applying Animation
* Using Sound and Video
* Taking Your Show on the Road
* From Screen to Toner: Printing Your Presentation
* Present on the Internet

After reading this book, I benefited a lot from it, understanding the extent of the mechanics in PowerPoint, such as: applying animation, using sound and video, taking your slide show on the road, printing your presentation and presenting it on the Internet.

This book is an excellent reference boook and guide book, but it is not a novel. No one will sit down and read it.
It is indexed well, so one can find out how to make a specific slide quickly. Although Microsoft offers help and instruction on line, I found this book the answer to using PowerPoint well.
With the elimination of good manuals from Microsoft -- I think DOS 6.0 was the last -- books of this type have become a requirement.

Microsoft Books by Labyrinth Publications

Our school has used the Labyrinth books in Adult Education for Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access for several years. Out of all the books we reviewed, the Labyrinth series is by far the best.

Our students find them easy to use. They contain detailed instructions, examples, pictures or diagrams, and assignments to complete which reinforce the lesson.

In most of our classes, the students work at their own pace through the book while a teacher in the room helps with lessons. Even our non-native English speaking students do well with the books.

As far as we are concerned, after investigating many textbooks over the years, we believe the Labyrinth series to be the best.

This is intended for those responsible in the planning, design, implementation, and deployment of Microsoft Office XP for the enterprise. Customization and standardization of Office XP deployments is what this book is about and critical in rolling it out to 100 or more desktops. For the typical user this may not be of any use, but for application administrators its necessary.

Our Ophthalmology practice needed help in using PowerPoint but hated spending so much money on professional trainers. With this fantastic training tool, we were able to create a presentation right away. This card showed us things in PowerPoint we could use on our very next presentation. One of the most interesting and useful features
about Outlook is the use of "categories" to help
coordinate information exchange among multiple
users of Outlook. Of the thirteen books I read
through about this aspect of Outlook, Mosher's
book was the only one that fully informs you
about how these categories travel in outgoing
and incoming messages

This book and the "Simple Project" series gives you lessons, templates, samples and a CD to use with your students. The students can work independently through the step-by-step instructions and learn how to create their own power point presentations. These books are available in primary, intermediate and challenging. I have bought several to cover the different needs of my students. I even had my own daughter do several of the lessons so she could learn these skills. These are the best teacher-computer lesson guides I seen.

MICROSOFT POWERPOINT 2000: PRESENTATION GRAPHICS WITH IMPACT always get their audience. Just let the AutoContent Wizard guide structure and style from defining the purpose to developing the topic, researching the subject, analyzing the audience, supporting and outlining the points, using visual aids, and delivering the message. Let WordArt special effects rotate, shadow or 3-D text in a consistent design across slides. Let color impact with meaning. Let font sizes be readable: 24 point for titles, 18 point for subtitles, and 14 point for all else. Let titles and headings favor sans serif fonts: the little lines on Book Antigua, Bookman Old Style, Courier New and Garamond serif fonts work better in helping readers to track text. Let paragraphs left align, titles center, and white space set off text. Let body language and conversational speech back up presentation graphics and text. Once again Microsoft has come up with all the information you need in a beautifully organized reader-friendly format. This encyclopedic book consolidates but does leave space on the shelf for Rebecca Bridges Altman's POWERPOINT 2000/98, Brian Reilly's CREATE POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS IN A WEEKEND, Patrice-Anne Rutledge's USING MICROSOFT POWERPOINT 2000, and Colotta Witherspoon's POWERPOINT 2000 FAST AND EASY.

If you're like me you've got a boss that is not only computer literate, HE WROTE THE LITERACY BOOKS! And naturally, he assumes that you know as much as him. This book will help you understand the tech talk anyone throws at you. Well, maybe not all the tech talk. But at least now you'll know that when someone says he's got 64 megs of RAM he's talking about his computer memory and not the roster of the recent superbowl winners. A must for everybody with a computer.

Excellent, very informative

I am re-purchasing this reference book as a result of my original copy being "borrowed" I presume, from someone in my PC Service & Support class. Because I am a novice to a lot of the terminology in my textbooks and don't usually wish to wait until the next class to ask the instructor, I find it to be most thorough (if somewhat tech-heavy)which is great for my purposes. When you don't understand the explanation, you can easily reference the words you don't know and get a clear, concise explanation of what you're looking for. For computer students, whether PC service, Windows NT, Novell, Oracle, etc., you will find this a valuable reference tool!!
