There are hundreds of excel books but I bought this one because I trusted the book dealer. And wow was I right. I tutor excel but sometimes have trouble explaining how to enter formulas. This book was the answer to explaining clearly from beginning to end. I recomend it if you are a beginner or if you are one who used excel a long time ago and want a refresher. Its soooo fast and easy, exactly what the book title says!

great choice for beginners

I'm a Word expert but an Excel beginner. I bought the Step by Step book and the same day got this Fast&Easy book from the library. This Fast&Easy book is much better for a beginner - simpler and clearer - covers all the basics using a series of hands-on exercises.

The pages are visually well designed - easy to read and follow along on the exercises. The exercises are designed in a good logical sequence. Clearly written. They kept it simple but not dumb.

Microsoft Excel/Visual Basic: Step by Step (Step By Step Series)

An excellant book to get you programming in Excel quickly!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1997-07-26
This is one of the best computer books I have ever read. I hesitated to buy a "tutorial" type book, but the Excel/Visual Basic book that came with MS Office was not sufficient. Reed Jacobson's writing style was excellant! He made good use of analogies between real world events and Excel/Visual Basic. His use of the Macro Recorder was a clever way to familiarize the reader to the Visual Basic language. Although meant to be a "tutuorial" type book, this book provided the best explanations of objects, procedures and methods that I have found in any book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to increase their efficiency in Excel through customization (i.e., programming w/ Visual Basic)

I wish all my books were this good!

I would recommend this book to anyone who is reasonably accomplished with Excel (or similar) and needs/wants to get more out of the spreadsheet program. For me, it has also proven to be an excellent way to grasp more of the fundamentals of Visual Basic at a quicker pace than the VB3 / VB4 books I have. Mr. Jacobsen (Jacobson?) uses some occasional light humor and rarely uses computer jargon in his book. I really appreciate the emphasis he places on using the macro recorder when convenient to substitute for extensive typing. He also demonstrates that if you don't know how to code something, you can use the macro recorder (which records in Visual Basic code) and then read the generated code. We just began the upgrade to Office 97 at work; when it gets to my machine I'll purchase the next edition of this book so I can keep one copy at home and one at work

Just In Time for a Disaster Recovery

As a recent fan of the O'Reilly Nutshell series, this one caught my eye as I prepared for my final MCSE test: Exchange. This book is really not for beginners, but is great for those who have some Exchange administration experience and want to learn more detail about the product, everything from the history and development to the "secret" command line utilities. As luck would have it, a few days after I bought the book I had to do a disaster recovery of my Exchange server. Tulloch's concise recovery procedures helped save the day!

I wish I had this book a long time ago . . .

As a fan of O'Reilly's "Windows NT in a Nutshell," I've been waiting for this book. Like the other Nutshell manuals, it encapsulates lots of hard-to-find information in one place. If you're looking for a step-by-step guide to implementing Exchange Server, however, you might want a different book (I strongly recommend Tony Redmond's text); this book is best suited for administrators who need a quick reference. However, anyone who wants to learn more about how Exchange Server operates will benefit from reading this book.

This is one of the best book on Flight Simulator.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1997-08-15
The book covers many additional information on flight. The two chapters on flight basics and radio navigation are even more comprehensive and clear than the new help in FS95, including some mathematics explanations. The only weakness is missing description on aerobatics and new scenery. But bear in mind, it is written for 5.1 version primarily. Anyway, the information is very usable to new FS pilot. If you want to buy a book for FS 5.1 or even FS95, I strongly advice you to buy this one. No doubt, it is good, much much better than the new edition

Old but still useful

Even though this book was written two years ago and Microsoft has since released two versions after the one this book was written for, the book is still quite useful. Taking you from the simple act of taxiing around the airport, to IFR navigation and low visibility landings, the information included in this book is usable with just about any version of MS Flight Simulator. Highly recommended.

These Quick Source guides are great in that you don't have to dig out a big old book to find an answer to something very quick. For first time users of FrontPage this guide is nearly perfect and even for more advanced users just as helpful. Sometimes we forget the small things this software has to offer and this sheet brings it to light again.

In 11 years of working with computers the one constant in the industry has always been technical support. When you buy hardware or software and you have trouble, whom do you call? Well for Microsoft has put the answers right at your fingertips and it's Microsoft Help Desk.

For less that $40.00 you have an abundance of knowledge written in over 1250 pages. The book covers each and every application within the Office 200 suite, from Word and Excel to Front Page and Outlook. There's even section on general Office 2000 and the setup and configuration.

Complied by Stephen L. Nelson, this book is a real handy reference when you need the quick answer and cannot wait on the phone. Using the Error Encountered method, you are then given several solutions to try. If you don't like reading books there's a cd with the electronic book included.

While no book can account for every situation, failure or error, Microsoft Help Desk certainly makes a valiant attempt to give you as much information as possible. I liked the way the book is technical enough for the advanced user, yet easy enough to understand for the novice.

An outstanding, highly recommended reference.

This outstanding, highly recommended reference also includes a complete electronic version of the text on CD-ROM., making it ever easier to find solutions to problems quickly and definitively.

In all of my introducory internet classes I have to introduce a textbook to fill the parts that I do not have the time to explain or need more clarification. Internet Explorer 5 at a Glance is that book. It is the best book available on the market for elementary and intermediate learners of Internet Explorer. With the help of lots of images it covers the main features of the browser. It also has a practical and to the point section on Frontpage Express. Outlook Express and Netmeeting are the other applications for which you can find more information in the book. Clear, visual, and to the point.

I have been using Microsoft Money to manage my finances and portfolio since 1999. I thought I knew how to use it until I began reading this book. Mr. Weverka has shown me how little I really new about the capabilities and ease of use of this excellent program. It is written so that ordinary people such as myself can easily understand it, with touches of humor to lighten the tedium. Thank you, Peter Weverka!

There's even a part on tracking your investments, planning for the future, and preparing for tax time. I recommend this book to anyone who has Money 2004!

The clearest, easiest and most user friendly manual yet!

Review Date: 2000-03-25
I was very excited after seeing a preview demonstration of MS Office 2000 Premium edition. I knew that I was going to be able to take advantage of most of the features in the new Office 2000 software suite. I also knew that I was going to need help in learning how to integrate the applications, understanding the dos and the don'ts. I looked through several manuals and although some of them covered similar content, none were as easy to read and understand as Office 2000 for Dummies. I can go straight to the application section I am using and find the example and explanations I need, in plain English to complete my task. Publishing our organizations monthly newsletters as well as client and staff contact management or as I update our website, this book helped me see what I could do to make my job easier, more productive. Anytime I get stuck, I don't panic. I just reach for my manual and smile because not only do I know the information I need, will be there, but that I will be able to understand it, to make the task I want to happen, happen. I highly recommend this book to any user who wants to take full advantage of the new integration of the programs. It will make you more productive, more confident, more creative with the many examples provided. Basically it will make your job and your life easier!
