An easy read in understanding the Microsoft Antitrust Case

With all the various information available concerning the Microsoft monopoly, it was wonderful to find an objective source that followed the events before and during the Microsoft case, analyzed the monopolistic tendencies of the software market in general, and compared this information with previous monopolies. The best characteristic of this book is that it explains the events and legalities of the case in such a way that it is not at all difficult to understand.

Implementing Win 2000 technolgies in the real world
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-11-19
This book is about implementing the new technologies of Win 2000 in the real world. The author's exposure and experience in the industry makes this book full of tips in practical implementation. Despite being a Win 2000 MCSE myself, I am enjoying and immensely benefiting reading this book as I go by its pages.

This one sails you through executing the new and difficult-to-implement technologies of Win 2000 like IPSec, NAT, DNS, Certificates services, Terminal services etc. through its nice walkthrough(s). Even basics like MMC have been explained in great detail. Such detail work e.g. devoting 63 pages to IPSec definitely helps concept building.

In summary, an excellent book for the dollars you pay. I hope the author soon attempts a book on Configuring Win 2000 with Active Directory: I for one will keenly look forward to it.

The Conflict: Vietnam guide is the best guide i have ever seen. I have 4 guides and none of them helped at all. I got the guide because I couldnt beat 5 out of the 14 missions in Conflict: Vietnam and after I got the guide I beat the missions without any problems. In the guide it even says where to find weaopons in a level. If you have trouble beating Conflict: Vietnam or you just got it get the guide. It helps a lot.

I am so amazed at myself for now knowing so much about wordprocessing. I can now do so much with documents and I am not one-third way through the book.

However, even though I have not yet used the books' assigned cd-rom disk, I have so far done good without it. But, now, I have reached a point in the book where the disk is necessary. I bought the book used and I'm sorry for doing that.

I am asking you to please e-mail me back and tell how I may obtain the cd-rom disk without re-purchasing the book. This information will be gratfully appreciated since I am now having a very difficult time continuing the lessons.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Florenda E. Chambers

I have tried several books on computer programs and have been frustrated at trying to learn from them. This book takes you through WordPerfect Office 2000 in a step by step process. It is easy to follow, even for novices like me. I find it is actually fun to go through each chapter. I highly recommend this book to anyone who owns the program.

This book explains how simple it truly is to pull data from an industrial PLC on the factory floor. In additon to teaching you how to display your data using graphs, the book shows you how easy it is to make a recipe management application.

The book proves there's an economical alternive to the big buck solutions. It's a good place for any novice to start.

I'd easly recommend this book!

Lots of good information on debugging
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-10
This book is one of those books that might be good enough only because the subject it deals with is rare. I have not worked very much with Visual Basic to say how useful it is. From my experience with Access VBA I thought it dealt nicely with debugging tools and error handlers. I wanted to get a better feeling of debugging before going into other VBA books that reports indicate to be full of bugs. The book is nice in that it briefly touches on subjects like ADO. It seems like it will make a good reference. I really can't complain much since I paid one buck for the book. The only negative criticism that I can say to the authors is that the word open in Spanish is not abir, but abrir.

I love this book.

David Jung and Jeff Kent have done it again! This book is a MUST have for any serious (or at least kinda serious) VB programmer or anyone who just has an interest in learning how to make their programs run better -- easier and faster. The book is easy to understand and written for someone WITHOUT a PhD. This book is the perfect companion to the Jung/Kent Visual Basic programming book. You gotta buy it!

This is one of six books in the Degunking series from Paraglyph Press. It is written from a different perspective than the usual tutorials. It brings together a wide range of processes such as file organization, registry editing, customizations, disk cleanup, disk defragmentation, and various tricks that power users have developed over the years. It also covers all the maintenance procedures needed to get your PC back to top performance. The book is organized according to the various cleaning processes needed to improve the performance of your computer. Worth keeping on your desktop!

Simple Things to Make it Run Better
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-28
After you use Microsoft Office for a while you start to find a number of little problems or annoyances. The first one is usually that you can't find the file you are seeking. You product something, you save it, and pretty soon your directory is full of files with strange names and you can't quite remember just what they are. That's the sort of thing that the authors of this book tell you how to fix.

Eventually most of us have to learn these little tasks, but here in one book, you get a concise and complete list and description of all these little things that you should do every so often. They really will make your system run better.

This book says that it's intended for Novice to Intermediate user. I don't think this is for complete novices, perhaps just one step up. The complete novice probably doesn't know what Office is all about.

With this book you should also get the Degunking buide to other software, especially the operating system as it also tends to attract clutter.

This is a great book- one that I find myself referring to almost daily. As it says in the books intro., each chapter provides a comprehensive view of the various components of a successful Win2K rollout. I agree with this statement, as it does it very well.
