The author has mastered the concept of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and more importantly, how to present and use it in a Microsoft Project plan format.
A project is comprised of phases, deliverables and activities. This book is fully aligned with the Project Management Institute's Project Management Body of Knowlegde (PMBOK). PMPs and non-PMPs alike will appreciate the insight it offers in planning and designing succint, comprehensible and manageable project plans to present to project team members and sponsors alike.

This is one of the best learning resources I have ever seen. By using words and pictures, each instruction is clear enough for even a young child to follow. The lessons are in good sequence, so that you learn to use Microsoft Word 2000 in very logical steps. The author starts out from "scratch" - assuming you know nothing to begin with. Each lesson is relatively short and focused. By performing each step on your own computer, as you proceed, the subject matter is easily comprehended and well learned. I highly recommend this book.

As a computer instructor of limited English speaking adult students, I find this book to be a valuable asset. Every page has bold, colorful pictures that provide step by step instruction on how to use the more commonly used features. I only hope that QUE will also make an EASY version for all other applications and the MAC platform.

I'm a trainer and I love my students. However, when I met the members of the next Beginning Word 97 class, I knew that they were TRUE beginners. One person actually put the mouse on the floor and tried to use it with her foot. I knew I had to get a book that was easy to learn from. I found it with this book. We really love it.

I think this book is terrific. Anyone writing a book about computer software should be required to study this book first. It gets to the heart of what you need to know and doesn't hesitate to tell you what you might not want to use (like the grammar checker and the indexing feature). Best of all are the really useful sidebars. For example, as the author admits, it is really easy to get a word count--the hard part is what to do if the document is too long, and her sidebar on the subject is really helpful. Examples of other excellent sidebars are "Seven Rules for Creating Great Lists" that accompanies the section on Numbered and Bulleted Lists and "Dealing With Criticism" (both how to accept it and how to offer it) that goes with the section on Tracking Changes. If you're looking for a really useful guide to Word's most important features, this is the book to get.

This book covers all the basics of using Word--all the same information you'd get from a Dummies book or one of Microsoft Press's Step-by-Step books. In addition to that information, Effective Executive's Guide to Word also provides lots of advice and information about how to write better, including info on writing business memos, emails, etc. Most business users would never need more information than this book provides. And everybody who wants to write better reports, memos, etc, will benefit from the author's tips.

Though I've been working with Windows for almost 10 years, I still learned new tricks with this book. Of course I skipped over some basic parts, but I can see how others might find the background information useful. As an added bonus, the book has a nice glossary and index to facilitate searching for specific topics.

It's 177 pages that get you up and running with Access. If your looking for depth this isn't the one. You should have an understanding of SQL and databases to get this information working quickly for you. It hits lots of high points to get you started and gets you through the Access maze.

This is a great book for beginners that is highly visual, easy to understand, offers step by step excercises that guide you through the process, all while teaching you to do more complex things with Access such as subforms, complex queries, switchboards (menus), with an introduction to using VBA to deal with modules and procedures, data entry, error trapping, and data validation. Most of your learning will result from "doing", which is the great part because the actual excercises (with tons of visuals) are fun and easy to understand. The website also gives you the data files you need to do ALL the excercises on your own. This book will teach you things that will make for an impressive presentation of your database when it's time to design your own. Overall, it's a great book for beginners that teaches you to do a lot of cool and useful things with Access 2000, and I highly recommend it!

Throughout many books available for PowerBuilder today this one is more deeply and carefully covers all the details you will need from day to day operations. I've red over dozens of books and I think that this one the only one that is not tells you where to click, but teaches you how to build an application and logical design. I do hope that authors of the book (B. Smith and G. Schaad) will issue a newer version that will cover features implemented with PB 6.x and PB 7

I used this book for one of my class and I come to like it very much. The organization of the book is different from most other books I have used. To me, it is a "how to" book with step by step instructions on how to build various components using C#. Usually, I have to surf the web and will find the "how to build things" in different places. This textbook gathers them all in one place. There are a lot of useful topics that a programmer would need in a real life programing tasks. I learn how to do many fancy stuffs from the example in short time and without much difficulty. Worth the money!
