I used this book to prepare for my final MCSE exam and found it very good in terms of content, accuracy and exam relevance (instant assessments and labs). I passed the exam very well without even finding the need to look at the other book I had bought - the sms 1.2 administrator's survival guide.

This book is awesome. Best self study I have purchased.

I used to buy New Riders 1st or Sybex if New Riders was not in print. This book is smoothly laid out, it has only one author - you know not repetitive -. It is complete and Best of all it is technically acurate. As hard as I hear 70-18 is I breath a sigh of relief when I started reading this book. I am glad I don't have to read two publishers to uncover mistakes. Not to mention it comes with an E-Book so I can pull it out when ever I get a chance and search anytime.

SMS is a Hard Subject, this book is well Organised and covers the Material in such an easy way that I Learned the Material and passed the test without a Problem. Having experience is very helpful but if you follow the Labs at the end of each chapter you will be OK. The advantage of this book is the small Chapters, which makes dividing your study time and material easy. Another book that I had covered SMS in 5 or 6 Huge chapters, some about 100 Pages long which made it hard to keep on going. I recommend this book to SMS Administrators and Exam Takers.

Excellent treatment of a complex subject

I sat the Microsoft 5-day SMS administration course, but still didn't feel like I had a good grasp of the material. This SMS study guide presented the material in a more easily understood format. I'm finding it an excellent source to reference as I deploy SMS 1.2 in my organization.

This book is straight to the point and very technical.

"Tales My Grandma Told Me: A Business Diversity Fable" is an excellent book!

As a young, female, African-American attorney, I have always wanted to start my own business but never had the backgorund or wherewithal to even know where to begin. I have some parellels to the protagonist, the fictional Jack Gainey. I practiced as an attorney and when I suffered the same fate that Jack had early on in the narrative, I was devastated but I resolved to "bounce back" and use the situation as an opportunity to do what I had always wanted to do--start my own business.

This book puts the process in perspective. It gave me the information, the resources, and most of all the courage to keep at it.

Excellent choice!

This is great book for entrepreneurs (whether minority or not) and corporate supplier diversity officers. A lot of practical advise for entrepreneurs as well as realistic expectations. They should keep a copy of the 10 guiding principles in their wallet all the time. Great tool for corporate supplier diversity managers to educate the corporate management on how diverse suppliers/vendors can help corporations reach their profit and revenue objectives as well as create a good social brand. The corporate guiding principles will be very helpful for any diversity managers working for a major corporation.

This is a MUST read for all minority entrepreneurs and managers responsible for implementing supplier diversity initiatives in their corporations!

I used this book, combined with Transcenders and my real-world experience with WinNT Server 4.0 and passed with a 900. Even with the new MCSE W2K Track (which I am pursuing) I feel the right way to do is to do the upgrade path especially if you have experience with NT 4.0. Good luck to all.

Best written book of any MCSE study guide series! It is the easiest to read, comes with great software, and does a great job of hitting each objective. I bought this book instead of the NT 4.0 guide that covers WKS, Server, and ENT because I had already taken WKS--and it is enough to get you through ENT too. Alan Carter deserves a raise or something--because he outdid himself with this series.

Absolutely essential for any genealogist!

If you're serious about the research you do on your family's history -- if you're not satisfied with merely collecting names, if you expect to see proof for statements made by other researchers, if you want those who come after you to be able to pick up where you've left off -- then this review can be boiled down a simple statement: Read this book. Buy it, consult it regularly, learn its principles. Since 1964, the BCG has developed and promulgated reliable methods for genealogical research, standards for proof, and a code of ethics for genealogists. This Manual is designed to clarify, codify, and present these standards in an easily accessible form. The first section presents standards for genealogical proof, data collection, and evaluation of evidence, the second lays out standards for genealogical instructors, lecturers, and authors, and the third discusses continuing genealogical education. These are followed by seven lengthy appendices that give examples of lineage compilations and the proof summaries that should accompany them, the most widely accepted formats for lineage publication, and researcher client reports -- which are a very useful tool even if you're only doing research for yourself. There certainly are thousands of books out there begging genealogists to buy them, but the "essential" bookshelf for American researchers is really rather small: _The Source,_ Greenwood's _Researcher's Guide to American Genealogy,_ Everton's _Handybook,_ perhaps _Guide to Genealogical Research in the National Archives,_ and a few others. The _Manual_ should be on that shelf.

Doing genealogy the right way

Since its start in 1964, the Board for Certification of Genealogists has promoted standards of competence and ethics in genealogy designed to protect the public, the consumer, and the profession of genealogy.

This excellent book from the BCG distills these standards into clear statements regarding:

Genealogical Research - genealogical proof, data collection, evidence evaluation, & compilations. (If any of these terms are unfamiliar to you, this book might be a real eye-opener.)

Genealogical Teaching - for lecturers, instructors & educational writers.

Continuing Education in Genealogy.

The bulk of the book is in its excellent appendices where examples of genealogical reports, proof summaries, compiled lineages, pedigrees, and genealogies are given to clearly illustrate what good genealogy looks like.

This book is great for measuring yourself against how the very best genealogists conduct and report their research. Seeing how proper genealogy should be done makes us all better genealogists.

This book should be read and on the library shelf of every "non professional" genealogist. I can't recommend it highly enough, especially for anyone who is the least bit interested in genealogy. It helps to turn a "myth" into a "fact".

The book is a great source of information. It could be a "must have" for any genealogist, amateur or professional. The extensive use of pseudonyms detracts from the importance of the sample documentation given. I could barely get through reading the numerous sample documents or reports from Traditional Storey to Ima Goodresearcher! I would recommend using real names and not ficticious ones in the next edition.

And I did! It made me feel a lot more confident going into the test, and I think all future teachers should read this book.

I just finished a Master's degree in Education and I'm still learning so much from this book. It has complete and in-depth chapters on each of the 13 competencies and also a final chapter on test taking skills for the 4-8, 8-12 PPR test.

This is the kind of reference you can use even after you pass the test!

This book is one of a very few that gives valuable information about the PPR TExES test for middle and high school teachers. It specifically deals with each of the 13 competencies and provides lots of samples and review questions. It's definitely worth the investment, something I can't say about most test-prep books. This one actually has information about good teaching, not just test info.

This book gives the most comprehensive preparatory review that I have seen. I am getting ready for TEXES, and I bought just about everything Amazon has on the subject. Most of the books provide a very brief summary of the competencies and go straight to the practice exams. Not this one! In fact, there is no practice exam anywhere in the book, but each chapter (organized based on competencies) has review questions at the end. Each competency is explained with application to middle and high school students. The book has definitions, examples, extensive bibliography at the end of each chapter and suggested activities that you can do in order to master the concepts. I can't say enough good things about this book. I have been out of school for years, and I was looking to something that would give me a nice refresher course in Pedagogy. But I also wanted to have more in-depth, detailed explanation of terms and concepts, and I got it here.

Start with this book if you are getting ready for your TEXES, and then move on to the other study guides. This is your textbook!

It was hard to choose how many stars this library worths. It includes 3 completly different books. The Caslow book is absolutly perfect. It's a very good tutorial, probably the best I know. I passed real written test and even I couldn't find answers to some questions from the test in this book, if you want to read just one book and get the maximum information - that's it! You might be not able to answer all questions, but I believe it gives you enough information to pass.

But two other books are completly different. First of all, they are not about cisco. It's just a general theory, a lot of packet structure diagrams and protocol description. Language sometimes is very dull and dry. Many topics, especially in the ATM book are beyond the scope of CCIE exam. Routing book contains a lot of interesting information about routing history, current problems and possible ways of future improvements. Probably, these books are interested to some readers, but it's not the best choice for CCIE preparation.

I put 4 stars just because Caslow book is so good that it makes whole library useful too. But I'd strongly recommend to buy this one book only and spend the rest of money to some other tutorials.

The 2001 edition is a nice addtion to my technical library.

Prentice Hall is fast becoming a name in the IT publishing world for producing material and books that will help everyone obtain just about any certification and the CCIE Resource Library 2001 edition is one set of books that should make passing the exam easier.

The three-book set is comprised of material starting with Book 1 - Routing in the Internet. Over 370 pages covering topics like the Internet and the architecture of the Internet. Also IP v4 and v6 are discussed and compared and then you begin to delve into the routing protocols, both interior and exterior.

The book finishes up with new ideas such as multicasting and overall seems to layout the Internet in fairly easy language. Book 2 - Voice over IP is new to the set and is written by Uyless Black. Black starts this excellent book off with an overview of telephony and the Internet.

Also covered is DSPs, Voice coders, DSL, modems, PPP, the role of the ISP, performance issues, VoIP Protocols, Voice alternatives and ISDN. Black is very good at breaking down the subject matter and making sure the reader can understand the concepts.

Finally comes book 3 - Cisco Certification: Bridges, Routers and Switches for CCIEs 2nd Edition, written by 2 well-respected CCIEs and authors. Over 900 pages broken down into six parts, part one is the configuration of the hardware.

Part 2 is breakdown of IP and the configurations of the routing protocols like RIP, OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP and BGP. Part 3 deals with non-ip routing, part 4 is bridging and part 5 is for management. Overall the entire collection is some of the best technical material I have seen so far.

One of the toughest, if not the toughest certification to get is CCIE. That's why it's very important to make sure that the books you use are the best out there. Prentice Hall has put together the only CCIE Library I have seen.

In book 1 of the 3 - ATM Volume III - the entire world of ATM is taken apart and dissected for you. Encapsulation, frame relay, DXI and FNNI, LNNI and ARP, multiprotocols over ATM are but a few of the topics discussed in great detail. In the second book - Routing in the Internet 2nd Edition - the book is broken down into 4 parts. Part1 discusses IP and associated protocols including IP V.6. Part 2 takes a look at the interior routing protocols like RIP and OSPF, it does breakdown both RRIP1 and RIP2.

Part 3 is the exterior protocols like BGP and CIDR. Finally in part 4 you have explanations of new developments in multicasting and mobile hosting. The book is well written and well documented and the author really gives a complete look at the internet and how routing is used.

The final book - Cisco Certification - Bridges, Routers and Switches for CCIE is written by Andrew Bruce Caslow a CCIE himself. Caslow has written several other book on the CCNA certification and as with the other books this is an excellent reference manual.

The advanced routing techniques like ISDN and DDR as well as excellent coverage of the Catalyst 5000 switch are some the topics Caslow goes over is this book. Caslow also sheds light on ATM and extensive detail on IP Addressing and routing.

Protocols like RIP, IGRP, EIRGP and OSPF as with non-IP routing protocols AppleTalk, DECNET and IPX are broken down for you. Caslow's knowledge of bridging, which includes source route, transparent and translation is nothing short of tremendous.

Caslow's book has sample scenarios, about the only thing it doesn't do it take the test for you. Prentice Hall has a great number of book on computers and networking and you should checkout their website today. Overall this book can be used as a handy reference manual and a study guide for Cisco tests. The price is small in comparison to what you get.

If you prepare for CCIE written test, buy Ccie Resource Library. This 3 volume set will gain your knowledge and experience about internetworking skills. Full of some very usefull case studies, network design, etc. No matter where you are in your progress towards the exam, this book is a worthwhile addition to your Cisco library.

The entire book contains output from numerous working configurations. These examples confirm that the authors did not just throw together another theory book, but have taken the time and effort to create scenarios that can be recreated by the reader. A CD accompanies the book, and contains complete configurations so that the reader can copy and paste them into home lab hardware.

In short, this book is one of the most interesting books concerning certification topics. After you read these 3 set books, I guarantee you pass the CCIE written test. Buy it, and plan to stay up late the night of your purchase. You won't be disappointed.

Prior to this book I was reading the Cisco Press CCNA Self-study: CCNA Preparation Library. This book is infinitely better at teaching someone who isn't already familiar with the Cisco world. The Cisco book just seems to present facts, whereas the author of this book seems to truly understand how to teach someone. This book saved me from being eternally lost in subnetting, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Amazing book

It is a great book which covers all topics in order to pass the CCNA exam. You have the router and switch simulator to improve and apply your skills.

I definitely recommend you buy this book if you really want to pass, but also to learn about routers and switches.

Good Luck !!
