Certification Books

The book covers all the skills necessary from the core exam to the expert exam. It shows everything so that someone with limited Access knowledge can start from page 1 and working with the book, and downloaded sample files pass the Access 2002 exams. There are additional tidbits of information provided in the book, that are unrelated to passing the exam, which are helpful for day to day use of Access. There are better books available for reference purposes, but this book will definitely provide the skills necessary to pass the exams. The book is 248 pages.

This should be the only book anyone would need to pass the MOUS Excel 2002 Expert exam. For the most part, great coverage of each menu function, toolbar function, and program settings. There are a few subjects which could use a little more coverage to make this book a more complete study guide, such as spreadsheet functions and some of the finer details of workbook properties, so be prepared to cover these subjects on your own because they were covered on the exam (fortunately I figured them out rather quickly during the exam). Overall, this was a great resource suitable for both novice and experienced Excel users.

For those of you who are interested in taking the MOUS PowerPoint 2002 exam but want to study for it on your own, this is the only book you will need - period. I knew next to nothing about PowerPoint before I began studying this book. I studied for about three weeks and scored 931 points out of a possible 1000 on the exam. This book provided excellent and thorough coverage of everything you will need to know to pass this exam, without all of the extra stuff. At last! I can't believe it took this long for someone to finally come out with a resource for teaching certification requirements at girls camp! This is a thorough easy to follow manual that takes the guess work and the pain out of certification for adult leaders as well as youth leaders. It is a must-have for all those working with girls camp.

This book earned me an 840 score(out of 300-900 scale) on the April-June,08 exam. All exams are computerlized now, so you'll find the exam environment a little different from the prep exams on this book, but the questions are very similar. Like others for the previous edition pointed out, some of the questions were almost identical. If you study the book, go through the prep exams at the end of this book (there are 6 of them!) and score more than 75% or so on those prep exams, you should have no problem on the actual exam day. Also, if you know the math (dimentional anaysis rules!), the exam should be a breeze.

The test center I went to did not allow anything to be brought in. They provided a calculator, a scratch pad, and a pen. The computerlized exam was very user-friendly and let you select the problems you weren't sure about so that you can come back later for those. There was plenty of time left to go over them many times. Good luck!

Speaking of the A+ cert text: I actually purchased it for my own use as I was cramming for the A+ cert myself and I only have one thing to say: wow! If you need any blurbs for this text, just say the word and I will say wonderful things about it to anyone who'll listen- Any prospective A+ student should certainly have a solid foundation in the various hardware/software principles in addition to this text, but for the brute memorization and getting acclimated to the testing atmosphere, this is THE text- I just finished passing both halves of the certification and this text was a large part of it; sooooo since the college has asked me to teach certification in the spring, I'll be using the Schmidt tome in addition to the usual "overview" type text.

Carol Buck's book is worth its weight in gold. Easy read. Good illustrations. The CD-ROM gives you a good feeling for the time element involved for the CPC exam. The questions on the CD-ROM give you good practice also. Carol Buck's method of study is helpful too. Follow her directions. After completing Carol Buck's review guide, I felt ready and confident for the CPC exam.
The only glitch was that I found a few mistakes in the review guide. Don't let that stop you from purchasing her book or any of her books.
