ExamCram2 CSPFA 642-521 - Newman
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

This latest ExamCram title was the best way for me to ramp up for the exam. Having taken the CSPFA 3.1 course from a Cisco Learning Partner last year, I learned that Cisco had changed the course content again to reflect the updated functionality of the PIX OS and FWSM. Cisco Press has been slow to release updated instructional materials that enable engineers to pass the required exams for either career certification or reseller specialization requirements. This CSPFA study guide was released at the perfect time to discuss and provide relevant examples of advanced configurations that one would expect to see in real life and in exam simulations. Simply put, I passed the 642-251 Exam because of this book. While you will not find identical test questions in this book, you will learn to distinguish which multiple guess answers are not applicable to each question and thus determine which answer is best suited for each question.

Newman wastes no time getting to the meat of the material and by the end of each chapter I felt comfortable enough to test each config and amend settings as need. The diagrams and listing of actual CLI outputs were thoughtfully presented and easy to read, much easier to digest than anything I've seen from Cisco Press. You don't want this book on your office shelf looking pretty, you want it in your car and on-site during installation to ensure a smooth integration.

I did find the included PrepLogic disc lacking in some regards, it was difficult to determine how to purchase the additional exam questions since their web site didn't show the 521 exam as part of their offerings. The .pdf version of the book was very much appreciated.

Excellent Cram Guide!

Daniel Newman's book is an excellent choice for studying for the difficult CSPFA exam. It is an easy read, concise, and covers the main points for the exam. Directly before I took the exam, I read through his book twice, taking special notice to alerts and the cram sheet in the back. You can see his instructor ability shine through as he provides creative scenarios and examples that both explicate difficult concepts as well as aid in retaining subject matter for the exam. I passed the test with a score in the upper 900's - something I do not think would have been possible without the assistance of his book. When you need to narrow down the required information to pass the exam, Mr. Newman's book is a must-have!

Strongly Recommend for Cisco CSIDS Exam 642-531

The Cisco Press "CCSP Self-Study: Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System" is the Cisco Authorized self study book for the CSIDS Exam 642-531 (ISBN: 1587051443). The book is an excellent resource for any individual pursuing the CCSP track. In fact, I used this as my primary training material to pass the CSIDS Exam 642-531 to compliment my CSIDS web-based training.

The book format follows the CSIDS training course. However, the book provides far greater detail than the tradition Cisco courseware. The book follows the standard format similar to the majority of the Cisco Press Authorized self study books. Part I reviews the basics of Network Security; if you already passed some of the other CCSP exams, such as the PIX or SECUR exam, you can probably breeze through this section. Part II begins the deep dive into the CIDS environment, reviewing IDS concepts, Cisco's IDS architecture, and the various Cisco IDS platforms. The third section of the book delves into IDS configuration. Not only does the book provide detailed information on configuring the IDS sensor and modules, but also the various switch configuration requirements and the differences between IOS and Catalyst OS. The remaining sections cover CIDS maintenance and management.

Cisco Press provides numerous screenshots and configuration examples throughout the book. For those CCSP candidates who can not afford to invest in a 4200 IDS Sensor, a Layer 2/3 Switch, and CiscoWorks VMS, the diagrams, tables, configuration examples, and screen shots are very helpful in grasping the concepts and configuration requirements.

Where the book truly excels is in its coverage of both the IDS signatures as well as using the IDS Management Console (a component of CiscoWorks VMS). Fifty pages are dedicated to the IDS signatures. Admittedly, my eyes got a bit heavy reading this chapter. However, understanding the IDS signature architecture is paramount for any Network Admin. The coverage of the IDS MC was also fantastic. After completing the book, I felt confident in my abilities to utilize not only the IDS MC, and also the Security Monitor component of VMS.

The only instance where the book seemed lacking was coverage of the IDS Network Module for the Cisco Routers. However, in defense of Cisco Press, it is nearly impossible for a Cisco book to remain 100% up-to-date on Cisco latest hardware and software releases. The book does provide some content on the Cisco Secure Agent (CSA). Any CCSP candidate should always check www.cisco.com for the latest exam requirements and augment study material with the latest hardware and software releases from Cisco's website. All in all, I strongly recommend the Cisco Press "CCSP Self-Study: Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System" for Cisco CSIDS 642-531 exam preparation.

I read this book over 4-6 weeks and must say its one of the best technical reads I have come across, the level of accuracy if 100 % and there are few errors even worth mentioning, it has loads of quality examples and the flow is brilliant, I don't keep many of my books but I will keep this one, highly recommended for all security engineers. Thanks Ciscopress for publishing a really high standard security manual AWESOME.

This book was a great help to pass the CCRN, it gives questions and rationals in all sections of the test. It is also good if you just want to brush up on neonatal nursing knowledge. A great accompany to this book is the Core Curriculum for Neonatal Nursing, these two books together have everything you need to know to pass the CCRN and increase your knowledge in neonatal nursing.

I had originally planned reading the Core Curriculum text, but then realized that wasn't going to happen. Instead, I just did the review questions in this book. It is divided by topic and gives rationales for all the answers in the book. I went through the book once and passed my NICU RNC exam on my first try.

Great Review for CPC

Review Date: 2005-08-11
I just took the exam about a month ago and passed with flying colors thanks to this book. The questions aren't a cakewalk and goes in depth with rationales on why those answers are and are not the right ones, unlike others that simply write in the correct letter on the back for the right answers. This one explains why that certain answer was incorrect so as not to leave you looking up in the ceiling for answers.

I've red the new one(2005) and quite frankly, they aren't very different. They changed a few questions and added a few things in the review section, then that's about it. You're not missing a big step if you get this instead of the 2005. They both include the CDROM.

By the way, the CDROM is nothing short of amazing. It has 150 Pre and Post Exam Questions(the questions are the same, only in different order) that you answer using the computer. So basically, this book has 150 questions in the CDROM then another 150 on the book making it 300 PRACTICE QUESTIONS!! That doesnt include the short 1-10 quizzes on each section of the review chapters(i.e. each body system, reimbursement, etc.)

Really great book for the bargain price. The AMA sells a review book about $10 more expensive with about 75 questions and no rationales on the right and wrong answers.

I purchased this book in preparation for the AAPC's CPC certification exam. It is easy to use and a wonderful learning tool. There is a timed clock on the CDrom portion to help with building your coding speed (this is essential to getting finished with the exam in the alloted time). The tutorials give rationales for wrong answers. It was an excellent study guide.

I used this book only for my study for the CCDA, and found it to be quite exceptional. It covered all of the areas that are on the test. The ideas, protocols and terminology are well explained and the scenario Case Studies at the end are simply AWESOME! The practice tests on CD are great too with a lot of what I found on the exam itself. I spent about two weeks reading it and another two on the CD. It really wasn't that difficult. This is my first Cisco certification and I hope the others are as easy as this one was! Get this book and get certified, it's that simple.

Great book, All I needed to pass.

This was a real cool book about networks and their design. Lot's of great info about protocols, devices, WAN's and how to plan and diagram a first class network. I bought it because I wanted the Beachfront Quizzer CD but found the book to be equally as good. I was also relieved when I found the exam scenarios weren't far off from the case studies in the book. I passed with time to spare. This book is all I used. If you want a Cisco cert, this books all you'll need.

I bought this book to help me with my UFI to CFI-SP transition. It presents clear explanations of the content that will be covered by the test questions. It doesn't waste much time on content that is not on the test. Each and every FAA question is listed with the answers on the bottom of the page. Explanations are also given as to why each answer is right or wrong. There's no way I would have passed the written if I had not studied this book first.

The book is a product of a very logical mind , written with remarkable pedagogical talent.
(Or remarkable pedagogical training...).
A worthy reading for anybody who makes a living in IT .
A compulsory reading for anybody who's in Infrastructure Support (LAN/WAN) because it gives you a very clear overview on what "the others" are doing or dealing with...
I wish this book was available years ago; would have made me a better professional.
I wouldn't be surprised if it'll be embraced as Academic Material by some Universities.

Another great effort from Cisco Press.

Cisco is a leader in the internet infrastructure, Cisco is also a proven leader in knowing how to integrate the WWW with business and provide a solution for their customers. Now they produce the study guide for the CISS exam and become a proven leader their as well.

In over 750 pages the author starts the certification journey with business application models, followed quickly with discussions for design and application requirements, after that you move to learning about Internet business solutions including 4 scenarios.

There are also several other scenarios in the book as well as 5 CISS case studies ranging from e-business to security. There is also 2 practice exams included, 1 for the CISS Applications and 1 for the CISS Solutions exams.

Overall I found the book a very good read and very well documented, the author has certainly given you a first class effort with this one.

This book is so much more than a list of coaching questions that it is truly a professional coach's handbook. The questions are organized by coaching opportunities, issues, and barriers so they end up being extremely helpful. But also included are such coaching aides as a client profile form, session prep form, coaching models, etc. Finally, there is a special helpful section for special coaching niches. I'm keeping the book handy whenever I plan or execute a coaching appointment.

Great resource!

Coaching Questions is a great resource for coaches or any individual who would like to improve their communication skills. Not only is the information practical but it is easy to find just the right question because of the way the book is laid out.

The book is laid out into six sections. The sections give question examples, coaching models and exercises. At the start of each section of questions Tony has added a sidebar that gives you the application for those questions. There are also sidebars with hints and tips throughout the book that are helpful. But the questions themselves are questions that I will use again and again.

Tony is perhaps one of the most practical authors that I have found. There's no fluff here, just good practical information. I highly recommend this resource!

This has got to be THE number one quick review book out there for the massage exam! Every single question asked in this book was on the exam and if not in question form it was in the easily formatted reading sections. I liked the space in the borders for writing on and used it for notes. The other book by ashton is good too. I used both and aced the exam!!!
