Using the latest MS Internet applications? You need this!
Helpful Votes: 22 out of 22 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-03
Most computer users these days are not happy with the lack of book type documentation for applications and the reliance being increasingly placed on embedded help files which are often frustrating and inadequate.

A large gap often exists and a good market is there for authors and publishers who understand this. This book fills this gap and does it well.

Internet Explorer for the Macintosh is curiously named, for it actually covers the two latest (Version 5) Internet applications Microsoft Internet Explorer - the web browser and MS Outlook Express the e-mail program.

For the Mac user of the Internet using the MS applications, both for the experienced user upgrading from earlier versions, and for the new Internet user whose first experience will be versions 5 of the MS programs, this is in my opinion an essential text - gap filling for the former and all embracing for the latter.

It is an invaluable, no nonsense, guide - the first available.

In my limited use of the latest Versions of Browser and E-mail program - I only recently upgraded - this Visual Quickstart Guide has certainly enhanced my fluency and helped me use both programs more effectively and efficiently. For the new user it will provide a broad reference base.

It is an good guide, available at modest cost and the first to reach the market. It is very easy to follow, copiously illustrated, with screen dumps and interesting and handy tips which enhance its utility and usefulness.

Well done Mr Steve Schwartz and Peachpit Press!

This reference guide is a life saver! I keep it on hand to help me through new tasks, and use it as a quick guide for time saving keystrokes and shortcuts. I have purchased all the Microsoft Office guides and think they are fantastic! I would recommend them to anyone - for new users the step by step instructions are easy to follow, so they will have you up and running in no time. If you are familiar with the software they are a great reference for less used tasks. Thumbs up!

Learn to use Netscape for e-mail, newsgroups, and the Web!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1996-12-12

I'm one of the authors, so here's a biased review. This book steps you though using Netscape Navigator 3.0 to browse the Web, read and receive e-mail, and join in Usenet newsgroup discussions. You'll also learn to install and use Netscape plug-ins, using plug-ins from the CD-ROM included in the book to listen to RealAudio radio clips, see video clips, and add a spelling-checking to Netscape. There's no easier way to learn to use Netscape than by following the lessons in our book!

I think Allen has done a great job with his book!

I am a technical book author and I rarely buy other people's books, unless it is for some business purpose. I bought Allen's book after evaluating it in a book store. While it is true that writing ANY book is hard work, it's clear to me Alan worked very hard because he did a great job. When I bought it, I had just finished writing a study guide for the IIS 3.0 exam. Therefore, I all ready knew a lot about IIS 3.0; I was just so impressed with work, I had to buy it. Thanks! - Kurt Hudson, MCSE, MCT, President, HudLogic, Inc. BTW: Allen and I have never met, nor worked together on any project. My words are based solely on the job he did on his book. Aug 19, 1998

Great text book! All CIS 1 teachers should use this book. It covers all the basics, doesn't intimidate (the computer does enough of that), and doesn't treat the beginner like a 'dummie'. Chapter by chapter, through various exercises, this book teaches the 4 basic functions of Desktop Computing - wordprocessing - graphics (painting/drawing) - database - spreadsheet. The final chapters tie all functions together into one document. VERY USEFUL.
