I can't believe there is only one other review of this book on here.

This book is the most detailed and complete reference to Windows 2000 Server I've ever seen -- period. Additionally, as the review before mine mentions, the information contained within is still very relevant and useful for troubleshooting Windows 2003 Server based networks, so don't be put off by the title if you're looking for something to help you administer Win2K3 Server as well.

This book has almost no "fluff" in it, either. To give you an idea of its detail and completeness, the chapter on "Active Directory Diagnostics, Troubleshooting, and Reovery" is almost 200 pages long and full of detailed information I've never seen in any other book on Win2K or Win2K3.

I don't think Microsoft put out an upate to this, which is too bad, but it's still relevant today and will be for the next couple years, at least.

Simply Great in Every Aspect !

I always liked Microsoft Press Books and when there is some subject I must look for, my first priorities is to look in Microsoft editions if there is something related to it.
This Book has tons of invaluable information regarding Server 2000 o/s in lots of subjects and in such a level of detail that administrators with experiemce levels from little to very advanced, will definitely benefit from this book. It certainly is a valuable volume with information that is very helpful for providing resources and theory to help in Microsoft exams preparation also. Of course this is not a book solely indended for that purpose. It is mainly intended to provide resources, like all so called "Resource kit" books do, for better and efficient o/s maintenence and configuration, in the many many fields it covers. I give this book 5 stars because I realize that not a single day passes without referring to it. No Microsoft Administrator should miss this heavy volume. Get it and will be rewarded. To my opinion, you can be benefited from the material in this book even if you started your administrative career with Windows server 2003 o/s. it covers topics that 2003 server related books do not, at least not in that extent, maybe because they take ii for granted that most of 2003 admins have gained experience already from working on Windows 2000 environments.

This bundled set of books contains just about everything it is possible to know about Windows Server 2003. Well, maybe not everything, but everything you can include in four thousand six hundred and fifty pages, yes, 4650 pages.

In one slipcase, there are eight separate Microsoft manuals:

Windows Internals (4th Edition)
Windows Group Policy guide
Windows Security Resource Kit (2nd Edition)
Windows Server 2003 Performance Guide
Windows Server 2003 Troubleshooting Guide
Windows Registry Guide (2nd Edition)
Windows Administrator's Automation Toolkit
Windows Server 2003 Tools and Digital Resources (on CD)

The CD contains more material than the rest of the books put together including (guaranteed to be true as it contains all of the manuals just listed in eBook form),
More than 300 esential tools and utilities,
And collections of Technical References on:

Active Director
Core Operating System
Group Policy
High Availability and Scalability
Networking Collection
Storage Technologies
Windows Security

It would be pointless to talk about the contents of each book here as they are already described under their individual titles. What you get in the bundle is: lower price than when purchased individually, extra material on the CD, and a cardboard slipcase to keep them in.

Good reference for any Windows administrator or planner

The 2003 performance guide was probably one book that's worth the price of this entire package. Mark Friedman, the author of Windows 2000 Performance Guide, wrote this book for resource kit. That explained why he never published a follow-up of his famous 2000 performance book. The other books in the kit were also extremely helpful. This is THE set of reference book to get for authoritative Windows 2003 information. Also included is a disc with all the ebook versions of everything, including some bonus books not in the resource kit. So stop Googling for unreliable second hand information, and get your stingy boss to cough up the money for this must have tool.

For years, I have been searching for a good Access book, only to end up quitting half way through or losing interest. This book ended all of that -- it is perfect! This is one of the best computer books I have ever used. I highly recommend it.

This is a very helpful book for solving problems and adding creative solutions. You would never imagine some the tips this book shows you. One way to impress your collegues is using some of these "how-to" solutions. The author explains the answers to the how-to's in easy to understand language. A must have if you are a serious solution provider.

This book is a must have for people who are moving beyond building simple and stock applications in Access. While I have a considerable library of Access books, this is the one I reach for first when I just can't seem to get from point A to point B.

I don't think that I could live with just one Access book, but, if I had two, it would be this and The Access 97 Developers Handbook by the same authors along with Mike Gilbert.

The authors of this book have a gift for making concepts accessible. Their patience and understanding of how to take an explanation step by step and still convey the concept as well as the recipe is rare in a field which is usually filled with prose so deadly that it can only be read by Ben Stein.

The only tiny problem for Access 97 users is that all of the sample databases must be converted -- a mind numbing task.

I have a number of programmers reference manuals and this one is used the most when working with Access. It is NOT for beginners. It is for the seasoned Access programmer or Visual Basic programmer. Many of the examples and tips could be used in either environment. The examples and samples are simple and straight forward, Michael Groh does not have anything to prove, he is a seasoned professional and his teaching style will have you feeling that you 'already knew that.'

I have quite a few books of this kind, some I have attempted to read, others which I have only been brave enough to flick through. A colleague lent me his copy of power toolkit and I must admit, I am hooked. With few exceptions, it is written in very plain english (as opposed to techie speak) with clear examples. I came to this site as I want my own copy!

Microsoft AJAX Library Essentials

Review Date: 2008-01-23
A practical tutorial to enhancing the user experience of your ASP.NET web applications with the final release of the Microsoft AJAX Library. What is Microsoft Ajax Library? Microsoft Ajax Library or otherwise known as Asynchronous JavaScript and XML is a unique compilation of standards-based JavaScript classes included in ASP.NET Ajax. The library is supported by most of today's most popular browsers and is used to build client-centric web applications that are used to integrate with backend data providers. In short Ajax is a web development technique for creating interactive applications.

This book features eight chapters. Each chapter holds a wealth of information. The book as a whole is essential to the understanding of the new Microsoft Ajax Library, it provides a detail look into how each aspect works, how each application or tool can be used, and how the reader can use each to their full advantage. The authors provide a greater understanding of what was once a closed topic, understood only by those who spent year dabbling in it.

Microsoft Ajax Library Essentials is a book designed to serve as a practical tutorial to enhance a user's experience of the ASP.NET web applications with the latest release of the Microsoft Ajax Library. It serves to teach practical development strategies and techniques. The first chapter covers topics such as Ajax and its relationship with Web 2.0, HTTP and HTML, Server Side Technologies, Client Side technologies, What makes Ajax, Uses and Misuses, an introduction to ASP.NET, resources and tools, installing IIS, installing visual web developers, and a section on how to quick start Ajax. It is easy to see early on that this book provides an in-depth view of the Microsoft client library for Ajax and is beneficial to any within the world of client side or server side technologies.

This book serves as a fantastic overview of the object oriented capabilities of JavaScript. Rather then just taking a swing at JavaScript this book gives readers the information they need to use OOP aspects so there is much more to be acquired from its material. Daire and Brinzarea reveal in a simple and easy to follow manner the proper way to create HTML codes with the Document Object Model. The book also covers all of the debugging tools for JavaScript, like Nikhil Kothari's Web Development Helper. These tools are extremely helpful with JSON and complicated JavaScript. The Web Development Helper offers a more detailed view JavaScript error messages and the complete stack trace, allowing users to gain a greater understanding of the error messages and how to avoid or bypass them.

A Great Book On Advanced JavaScript

This is good book to get if you want to use a JavaScript library for AJAX which is designed to be similar to the .NET Framework in its use of namespaces and classes. The Microsoft AJAX Library is the best choice for ASP.NET developers and this book is an excellect reference guide to using it. In addition, it provides an overview of advanced JavaScript OOP language features and concepts.

I appreciated the extensive listing of online resources for advanced JavaScript tutorials, reference guides, and debugging tools. I learned about many that I did not know about and it included some obscure resources that I was familiar with. In other words, the authors clearly did their homework and were very thorough.

The sample code included detailed explanations of what the code does so you can easily follow it. They even used class diagrams to document the JavaScript classes which qualifies as extra effort since you cannot produce these diagrams using any JavaScript tools. They had to recreate them in C#. I was quite impressed by the authors' technical expertise.

I recommend this thesaurus to not only internationals but also Americans as well. Maybe this thesaurus is not enough for deep readings and writings but I believe it will meet your most needs. I suggest you to use this thesaurus with a thick and broader thesaurus, in this way if you do not find an equivalent for a particular word in this one, you can easily refer to other big thesaurus. Other than that, the most useful feature of this thesaurus is that it has not only synonyms (which most thesauri only have) but also antonyms.

I wholeheartedly agree with the first reviewer - this text (and its companion texts for the other Office products) is the very best that I've seen in terms of being easily comprehended and practical for the user who does not want to invest hours or days to learn how to use a very specific feature. I'm disappointed not to see an updated version. Is there one in the works?

A picture is worth a thousand words! Just like the other Microsoft 2000 At a Glance reference books, this one develops the pro in you without excessive verbiage, and by using no more than one picture page at a time per technique or feature. No kidding! Those highly prized tech writers in the computer industry can help or hinder you in your efforts to learn a software. The tech writers and editors for the Microsoft At a Glance books are the best. If you work in spreadsheets, keep this book handy. You will become the "go-to" person in your office. You won't be frustrated. Trust me.
