My son is 12 years old and was so enthralled by this series that I had to read too. We both are waiting always for the next one. When I was younger, I loved the Anne Rice vampire series too. So maybe it's in the "blood"... It is very rare these days for my pre-teen to admit he has anything in common with me. So thanks Mr. Shan!

These books are fully amazing. They are not the longest books ever, but they are very interesting and keep you on the edge of your seat. They even have a review by J.K. Rowling which should mean a lot to any good reader. They are fascinating and take you to a world in your imagination that you never thought you would see. I bought the first book and finished it in a day and have in they past three days, bought the next two and read both of them! They are virtually impossible to put down. You feel the pain and the happiness that the characters feel. You almost become emotionally attached to them and you feel like it is a real life experience that you are part of. Darren Shan is an amazing author and it is shown in this book.

I read these back in high school... well, up to book seven, I think. Anyway, I forgot all about them after graduation... but recently, I've been going back to the young adult novels I read from way back when.
I have to say, I do plan on buying this set. I love the characters, and the plot twists, and the story in general. I really do recommend this series!

Great teen reading.

My thirteen year old son loves these books. He is already on the 3rd and only had them a short amount of time. He is not a reader at all. I was really happy that he found books he would read and is interested in.

I read them when i was only 12-13 and enjoyed them. Obviously not all of em but i read the first two or three when i was young. Then read them all last year and i have to say i enjoyed every minute. It's not the most depth books but there very enjoyable.

This set is only 25 bucks and you get three great books. Only problem is there to short. I love how the book starts off right away with some crazy ideas. Then book two is a great, even heartbroken, ending. Then you have book 3 and 4 which you must read together since there so good and must be read. Then when your done with book 4 ya'll want book 5. So lets go to that set of books!

Wide vistas for a child's imagination

If I ever get around to making a list called "The books that built my brain," this book will be on it. I had a copy of "Come over to my house" as a child, and the fantastic images of faraway places, diverse people, and different ways to live helped furnish my imagination with wonderful scenery. The pictures stayed with me: the balconied Venetian house, the painted Chinese houseboats, the carvings on the (Polynesian?) house near the hot springs. Every child's imagination should have room to travel. If you can find it, read it to your kid.

I've been searching for this book since the birth of my first child. It was my all time favorite book. My mother read it to me night and day. Upon my learning to read, I remember taking this book to bed with me during nap time and reading it over and over again. I never grew tired of seeing how children in other countries lived. This book went every where I went. I'm estatic this book has been reprinted and I can share it with my children.

If you can find it, get it! A great book!

In typical Dr. Suess fashion (LeSieg is backwards for Geisel...Dr.Suess' real last name) this book carries the poetic rhyme that kids love. It tells the story of how homes are different everywhere, but how "they're all alike when a friend asks you in." The pictures are bright and interesting. Young children will be filled with curiosity with the amusing pictures of homes in far away lands.

I read this book to a group of first graders and they hung on every word. None had ever heard the book before. It truly is delightful! It is a shame that this fabulous book is no longer in print. I got my copy nearly 30 years ago. It is still my favorite!

Excellent Book, My Son's favorite.

This book is amazing. I found it at a thrift store for .25 and put it away for the birth of my first child. I am an American living overseas, so for my son to see all the different cultures familiar and unfamiliar, it great. He is 18 months old and just wants to look at the pictures and hear me read it over and over and over again. I never tire of reading it either.

Ashlyn Brennan becomes great friends with the guidance counselor at her school, Mrs. Rothins. Each day Ashlyn helps out Mrs. Rothins as a student aide. When Ashlyn comes to school one day and finds out that Mrs. Rothins has been murdered she is devastated. Ashlyn soon discovers that her boyfriend, Drew, is a key suspect, for he was seen leaving Mrs. Rothins' office right before she was found dead.

This thrilling page-turner kept my attention and caused me to think. Being a huge fan of mystery, I could not put this book down. Using great description, Betsey Hayes fills this book with action and suspense. While I was reading this book I felt that I could really connect with the characters. This is one book I would definitely recommend.

When i went to the library i just started looking and found this book. I took it home and read it in 90 minutes. It is such a great book, it makes you think twice about who really loves you and who you should trust.

My name is Lauren Stewart, for my English class project I chose to read Deadly Deception, by Betsy Haynes. Although I have never read a novel by this author before, I look forward to reading more of her work. The blurb interested me because enjoy to read murder mysteries and Deadly Deception is a great murder mystery. From the beginning Betsy Haynes had me thinking and my many questions were not answered until the very end of the book. I like that becausr if the climax is in the beginning, what is there to look forward to? There are many true-life problems in this novel which makes it 10 times better, ex: drug addictions. The way Betsy Haynes wrote this novel I was on the edge of my seat until the end of this novel.
The novel takes place in a middle class town, nothing exciting. Ashlyn Brennan lives a normal life until obscure events begin to happen. The major event that began to throw her life off track was the killing of a close friend of her's, Mrs.Rothlis, the school guidance counseler. Along the way of Ashlyn's investigation of the murder she discovers information about herself, herboyfriend and her mother that blew her mind. Ashyln's best friends think she needs to slow it down on the investigation because more and more Ashlyn is pushing herself to the limits. Without revealing anymore information about this novel I will leave the rest up to you, read this novel and you will agree with me that it is an "edge of the seat" novel.
Thank you for taking time to read my book review on, Deadly Deception, by Betsy Haynes.

Deadly Deceptions by Betsy Haynes was an excellent book. It was hard to put down. The main character is Ashlyn Brennan, a seventeen year old senior, who is really close to her school counselor. Everything was going well in Ashlyn's life when suddenlly her school counselor was found dead in her office and the last person schedule to see her was Ashlyn's boyfriend Drew.
All the fingers are pointing at Drew. He is the prime suspect in the crime. Ashlyn doesn't believe that Drew would do something like that. So she starts a investigation of her own. She finds a deadly family secret.
I thought that Deadly Deceptions was a very good book. It has romance, drama, and mystery. It is very well writtnen and it captures the attention of young readers.

I started crying, and just couldn't stop. I can remember feeling just like Dave when I was younger and losing something, it was a horrible feeling. If only we could all have a sister like Bella. The wonderful story and pictures will touch you, and stay with you forever.

I have other titles in Dav Pilkey's "Dragon" series and have loved them all. This one is no disappointment. Dragon's daft but sweet nature shines through. Although this story is secular, Dragon's selfless generosity is very Christ-like. Definitely a Christmas story worth reading to your kids again and again.

Simple but sensational storytelling!

Dragon's Merry Christmas will be loved by young readers in your family circle. The stories show the sensitivity of Dragon, and his feelings of the Christmas spirit. He finds the perfect Christmas tree, but can't bring himself to chop it down and bring it to his own house. He decorates it right where it grows! Overwhelmed by the sweetness of a candy wreath, Dragon eats and eats! But it is Dragon's discovering the joy of giving -- the meaning of Christmas -- that makes this book so perfect.

The imaginative illustrations add to the quality of the book.

Dragon's Merry Christmas is just one of the great Dragon books written by Dav Pilkey. My 7 year old daughter picked up one of the books at a book fair at her school and read the book over and over again. I came on Amazon in hopes of finding more of these books to keep her intrest alive and found 5 in all. I purchased all of them! They are great books that my daughter can't get enough of. She loves to follow the dragon through is day and while we are reading the books we stop and talk about what we might do if we had some of the same problems as the dragon encounters in the stories. My daughter now will point out problems that she encounters that have similar qualities to those the Dragon encounters. The Dragon's Merry Christmas is a perfect book to read over and over for the holiday.

Review Date: 2007-11-27
This colorful book is a collection of 4 very short Christmas-y stories - none of them actually "religious" in nature, but rather they touch on the spirit of the holiday season. Each story has a sincere message and can be enjoyed at face value, or can serve as a catalyst for a more meaningful discussion with your child. The illustrations and the story are pleasing for both adults and the young audience. It is perfect for reading to an audience of children under the age of 8 - and can also be read by 1st or 2nd graders. This type of book fills a void for young readers that seems to fall between the overly simply picture books and the more advanced chapter books that often lack engaging artwork. My children, ages 4 and 7 both enjoyed the book and we will be buying more Dav Pilkey books.

To begin an art lesson with your child [as a parent, caregiver or grandparent] takes more than most of us own: art talent!
But with this Great Thumbprint Drawing Book you can become an art authority!
The skillfully designed progressive sequencing of 'action steps' will lead you and your artist to success! Spot on!
There is no wiggle room for error. Straight on to completion and the 'oh, cute' factor from any admiring observers.
My suggestion is to skip the idea to put ink on the thumb and simple take a piece of heavy cardboard as a template. Cut an oval [about the size of a healthy thumbprint] in the center of a 3 inch by 3 inch piece of cardboard.
Then as your artist needs to incorporate a thumbprint into the selected drawing project, just have them outline the cutout oval and then fill in in with the desired color.
Your art expertise will appear [thanks to Mr. Emberley] as you urge the steps: one-by-one.
Another suggestion for success is to use a black felt-tipped marker to outline the entire drawing upon completion. It give s very finished touch to the art work!
Have fun with your art student(s).

The fabulous colorful pictures are fun for the kids and for me, and are detailed enough to give us lots to talk about on each page, but not so detailed as to overwhelm young eyes. My daughter (age 7) is never "keen" to read books. When she told me she liked the "Fly Guy" books she read in class - I went and bought the series! There are 5 books, total. The stories are silly and have a fun "gross" factor that most kids would enjoy. The books have a few chapters, but they are easy readers and so it allows the kids to have a sense of accomplishment (having read a "Chapter" book), while not being too labor-intensive. I would definitely recommend them for kids that need to be "encouraged" to read.

A great beginning reader book!

My little girl was introduced to fly guy in Super Fly Guy! She just loved the story! Of course we had to pick up the first story!

Buzz is looking for something to catch for the Amazing Pet Show. He meets fly guy as the bump into each other. Well fly guy boinks his noise. He catches him and takes him home but nobody believes a fly can be a pet! Dad tries to get him with a flyswatter! My girl told him NO! Even at the show, the judges keep telling him a fly is not a pet! But flyguy wins them over in the end!

This book deservedly won the Theodor Geisel award as it's really easy to read and it's interesting enough to keep children interested.

Artwork is great as my girl did not get tired of the pictures!

Fly Guy is so cute. A fly cute? Well, he is. He's drawn that way as only Tedd Arnold can. I love his pictures as they all have that same uniqueness to them. You can always spot a Tedd Arnold book.
Fly Guy has an owner named Buzz and he says his name all the time. Who wouldn't want a pet that says your name?
My kids really enjoy this book. It's simple yet innovative. How many of us wish we thought of it ourselves?

Reading books about cats to a preschooler, you come upon many books with more wishful thinking than actual knowledge of how cats behave. I'm thinking of those sweet, sweet books in which cat 1 happily accepts cats 2, 3, 4, etc. and they are all best buddies. Alas, that is not how real cats interact. But Charlotte Voake obviously knows cats better than that. Her story of captures the territorial instinct of a cat confronted by a newcomer as perfectly as her illustrations capture the marvelous range of expression in feline posture. Despite the realism, she manages a plausible happy ending that made me laugh out loud. A little gem for cat lovers aged 3 to 300.

Here is another good book by Charlotte Voake, a woman who obviously knows something about cats.

In this book Ginger gets a new 'friend'. The kitten though proves to be more friend that Ginger can handle and Ginger stocks off to pout.

As a mom I like that this book can be used to teach sensitivity to the needs of others. And though it's not a problem we have, I could certainly see using this book as a segway to discussing certain impending family changes... such as a new child coming.

Four Stars. [B+]. Artwork is even better than in "Ginger Finds a Home". [Ginger is a fat cat now.] Very good read-aloud. Very good art. My two children (boy and girl) love this book.

This is a book about Ginger, a lovely orange tabby who belongs to a little girl who loves him. However, she rocks Ginger's world by bringing home a new kitten, who wants to play with Ginger, eat his food, sleep in his basket, etc. Ginger takes the slightly implausible way out of going and hiding in the garden in the rain (behind the refrigerator is more like it.) But all's well that end's well, with everyone friends.

This book is often pigeon-holed as the book for introducing toddlers to the idea of a baby brother or sister, but it also speaks to the cat lover in all of us. We have a cat and a 21-month old, and this book is right at the top of her list. The illustrative style is whimsical without being saccarine, and the kitten's penchant for muscling in on Ginger's food, bed, etc. is true to cats as well as babies everywhere. We both love this book, and look forward to its 101th reading. You will too.

Since I have two teenage nieces who live in other states, Catherine Dee's books are one way I can pass on ideas and thoughts that are good for them as they grow up. Two years ago I purchased The Girls' Book of Wisdom for both of them for Christmas (in fact, I have this one myself!). I'm sending one niece The Girls' Book of Friendship and The Girls' Book of Love for her birthday. The whole series is great!

Who do you talk to the most about love? Friends? The 'rents? Ever feel like the sitch is helpless because your friends all have the same probs as you and Mom's great advice piece is "boys are just silly"? Why couldn't we have a great guide, jst for girls that shared insights about love from all sorts of people, even guys?! Well relax ladies, it's finally here!

From the author of The Girls' Book of Friendship and The Girls' Book of Wisdom comes a new guide for girls on love and life. And it's not a "how to" guide that'll show you how to flirt like a pro and snag yourself a sweetie. It's a lively lil' collection with cool quotes, true stories, love poems, and a guy's eye view. All meant to " deepen your understanding of love," the joy and the pain. There's even thoughts from fabulous gals and guys like Madonna and Justin Timberlake.

More than anything in this transitory life mine eyes desire the sight of you. ~Catherine of Aragon

The Girls' Book of Love is a collection of stories, poems, lyrics and quotes. Throughout the pages of this beautiful collection, the mysteries of love are revealed. It is more a celebration than an explanation and you will also discover trends and trivia.

Is personality more important than looks?
Is there a scientific way to measure love?
What are the first signs of falling in love?
Can fantasy be a natural pain reliever?
Why should you whisper into the left ear?

I remember being in love when I was just seven years old and I think all girls can relate to the desire to be in love all the time. Being in love makes the world more interesting, you feel more inspired and for women, this might just be a way of life.

A few of the true love stories take place in exotic places. A sixteen-year-old gazes intensely at her newfound love while visiting temples in India and then while traveling in Egypt, a girl is frozen in place by the sight of boy she views from a distance.

"Although our time together was short, it's a treasure I'll hold in my heart forever. He was the beginning of something great, and through his eyes I saw the beauty of life. ~Dina Chehata, 16

Reading about love and being in love is pure pleasure for the female heart. Catherine Dee has captured these desires, soul longings, the wonder and excitement of first love and the experience of discovering something new. Within these pages you will find intellectual enjoyment to satisfy your curiosity and warmth and longing to satisfy your heart.
