I really liked this book! It is the only self-publishing book I have found which describes how to put a spiral bound book together yourself. It also discusses the paste-up, collating, and binding processes which I found helpful. The soft cover book itself is an example of the finished probduct.

A few weeks ago I was in my local computer warehouse (MicroCenter) and was browsing the books like I normally do. Actually, I was NOT planning to buy a thing. Just killing time. Then, I saw this book. The title caught my attention because it implied the book was only concerned with the features in 4. I've become so use to computer books trying to be all things to all versions of an application that I found this approach novel and the size not so daunting like many of the huge tomes on the market. Curious, I picked it up and started reading. I stood there for two hours reading...needless to say, I bought the book... I have since read the entire book and can only say WOW. Great book. Written in a light readable style. Explanations are clear and succinct. Would highly recommend it to the intermediate to advanced Quark user. Thanks to the authors! Good job! Will be looking for your future works.

This book will carry you through your first frame to the most advanced project and guide you in a jam. It's a must have reference book and tutorial for all Quark users and DTPers.

The advice is excellent, easy to read and well organized.

My only reservation is that Quark 4.0 will be released soon, so if you're not currently going to be using the current or prior release, maybe you should wait for the upgrade.

Brad's book is the first one, and usually the only one I reach for when I have a question about the best way to do something with XPress. He has many years of experience with the program and his expertise shows. The topics are organized well, the examples are clear, and the explanations thorough. This book is well worth looking for!

PLEASE READ this before using Quark Xpress!

Since Quark Xpress 6 is a professional and an expensive program, you really need to utilize the program to its maximum. And having a good guidebook like "Quark Xpress 6 Bible" is crucial. I think this book does an amazing job of taking beginners step by step to familiarizing the program. It starts from how to create new document to really specific and not-so-commonly-used tools. Also, this book tells us useful shortcuts which can be convenient.

This book never assumes that you know a certain function or where a palette is. That is important because beginners like me are burdened with so many new things and having these things refreshed over and over really helps.

Honestly, I don't understand reviewers who complain about this book. What more can you expect from a book? Unless you get an online tutorial with movie clips that show you where everything is, it is impossible to get a more comprehensive tutorial about the program. Seriously, this book teaches so much and even has lots of example that you can get inspirations from and possibly incorporate in YOUR future layout.

Regardless of what your ultimate purpose is, this is good for beginners as well as more proficient users. Easy to understand and also quite affordable.

Photoshop for scientists
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2002-11-06
Seqdgwick's Quick Photoshop for Research is a well-produced book with one to two page instructions on using Adobe Photoshop in scientific imaging.

The book is not just for scientists! Anyone using Photoshop who is not an expert will benefit from the instructions. The science part is the admonition to be honest with your images - a point that needs to be taken seriously by scientists, photojournalists, and marketeers, but can be skirted by artists.

To get an idea of the breadth of coverage, check out huge number of entries in the table of contents (online) The book is about 100 pages long, so there is a lot to peruse. You do not need to read the book from front to back to get what you need to solve a problem "right now".

The style of the book is much better than the usual computer manual 'style' of "this is how you press the close button to close the dialog". Jerry actually explains what is going on with your images.

All in all, an excellent book for serious Photoshoppers.

Easy to read, easy to use. Great package for Quark users who want to create multimedia content. I took the book home for Christmas and by new year I was creating rich interactive presentations. Limited only by it's lack of support for databases.

IF YOU BUY ONE BOOK FOR REVIT; THIS IS THE ONE!!!

After 3 false starts with another book, Revit's built-in tutorial, and Autodesk's online tutorial (which I felt all were dead-ends), this book has been the answer to my prayers! Not only does the author know Revit very well, but he presents his lessons in a logical manner that keeps the reader's interest yet keeps it still challenging for the reader, continually expanding his envelope. The lessons are VERY clear, with many examples and graphics. I just wish I had this book a month ago!!! I am a registered architect new to CAD, having done it by hand for over 20 years....I was originally going with AutoCAD but got Revit at the urging of a structural engineer friend, and I am glad I did, especially after seeing what Revit can do versus AutoCAD!

How video and sound can be integrated into Flash!!
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-07
This book will do exactly what they said wasn't possible by illustrating how video and sound can be integrated into your Flash presentations, placing you at the extreme edge of creative web design. The application of such tools as AfterEffects, QuickTime, SoundForge and Wildform test the boundaries of Flash and suggest ways to take sound and video beyond Flash and into the realms of Shockwave.

Showing you how to break your site down and incorporate video and sound, the techniques covered in this book capitalise on the capabilities of Flash whilst tackling its limitations head-on. It will then look at how to take web ideo and sound a step further with Shockwave presentations.

If you are looking for a great how-to on "styling" hair for a photo shoot, look no further. Ms. Wurdinger walks the reader through the process, step-by-step, with clarity and a sense of humor. The chapters are well-organized, and the tips on virtually every aspect of this complex process reflect Ms. Wurdinger's command of the business of beauty. This book makes a great gift as well, since it serves as a reference for those who may not be photographing their style creations on a daily basis. Highly recommended.
