Dealing with organising CAD based work

I am an AutoCAD user, as an architect, and a CAD teacher. I have been teaching CAD for many organisation, such Highschool, University (Politecnico di Milano), private design firms. I bought this book when I already was familiar with teaching and using CAD, anyway it gave me new perspectives for organising my work, as a CAD user as well as a CAD teacher. It doesn't give you information about AutoCAD commands (you already have to be familiar with, so if you are an AutoCAD novice wait for buying it till you have basic AutoCAD skills, then buy it!), but it gives really good points on how doing a good use of them. This is why I definitely recommend this book, to people starting organising their CAD work as weel as experienced users.

This book does a great job of explaining in-depth some advanced issues of AD. I only recommend this book for experienced admins since it only glosses over introductory topics. Look at this more as a book for advanced architectural issues like DNS and AD Scripting (VB, etc.) though I would say scripting newbies could benefit.

Also, this book is not MCSE 2000 prep material. I would not recommend this book until you already have a firm grasp of most AD concept and you want to go further.

Finally, the authors credentials speak for themselves. I highly recommend this book.

Perfect for beginner or experienced user

This is a great book whether you're a beginning user or you've been around the block a few times with the program. It is very clearly organized around the various program functions which, makes it great for reading straight through or picking out the functions as you need them. I borrowed the book for options on cropping and removing backgrounds and wound-up purchasing my own copy for its versatility and ease of use. It comes with an accompanying CD that has demo versions of some useful programs, as well as sample artwork and a full copy of the book you can search through on your computer. This book is superior to the "Teach Yourself Visually" series also from Maran, which tends to really hold your hand through the most basic functions. It is also much clearer than the text-oriented books which have more words than examples. A nice balance overall that all but the most advanced users will appreciate.

Great AutoCAD Reference

This is one of the best references on the market. To my understanding, this is the only one that outlines the internal data structure within AutoCAD. This is definitely a "must-have" for any AutoCAD automation developer. I only wish someone would publish the same information for the newer revisions. Most (if not all) of this should still apply though.

Excellent Reference

This is a great reference book to have around especially for those who program AutoCAD in more than just one language. If you need to customize or create applications for AutoCAD using VB, VBA, ObjectARX, ObjectDBX, or AutoLISP you will benefit from the information in this book. This book helped me get a firmer grasp of Symbol Tables, Dictionaries, XData, and Custom Objects. Just check out the table of contents. Each chapter has something to offer even the most experienced ARX or VB programmer.

This book was very well thought out . It is graphic, easy to understand, and the author does not talk down to the reader. His sketches and command lines were explained in full detail. The only thing this book lacks, is a hard cover...because of it's use, we have worn out the soft cover

GREAT book for beginners to intermediate users
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1997-08-10
While this book is not the most exhaustive and technical book around, this is a GREAT book for those that are new to FrontPage97. While other books may provide a wealth of hard-core technical data, they tend to gloss over one very important subject...how to use the product at all. This book, on the other hand, will walk you through FrontPage97 from beginning to end and show you (step-by-step) how to use FrontPage97. The book also spends a fair amount of time walking you through the configuration and use of Microsoft Personal Web Server and FrontPage's Web Server - which are necessities that other book (at least that I looked at) didn't cover too well. A little more detail could have been spent going more in depth on advanced topics such as database connectivity. That being said, though, this book at least had a fairly good section on database connectivity to get you started. Most other FrontPage books I glanced through completely left it out or glossed over this (potentially complicated) subject entirely. Even with some minor deficiencies, this book is an outstanding book for probably 75% of all normal users. Only advanced sys-admin's and web applications developers will crave more info. For the rest of us mortals, this book will definitely satisfy you. All-in-all, after about 1-2 hours with this book, I was able to do things with FrontPage97 that amazed me. If you're new to FrontPage97, this book is definitely worth buying
