Hi, I'm Randall Newton, and I wrote two editions of "Inside Generic CADD" for New Riders Publishing. This listing is bogus; I never did an edtion with the second author listed... heck, I don't even know who he is! If you need a copy of Inside Generic CADD (and it amazes me how many people are STILL using Generic CADD after all these years), then look at the other listings. The people selling used copies are obviously confused; they should list their copies with the REAL versions of the book.

Yes, if principles outlined in this book are not heeded. Strangely, the fundamental economics of copyright intellectual property have been glossed over by many eBusinesses seeking to grab "eyeballs" instead of dollars. No wonder so many "content sites" are failing. The selection of articles in this book is first rate and should be read by anyone in the publishing, music or software businesses. There is some advanced economic analysis with a fair bit of math, but the articles are quite accessible to non-economists like myself. You have just read a review of a book. Is my review "worth" anything? What did it "cost?" Will all books eventually by digital? Read this book to find out.

This Multimedia Training CD-ROM (which was featured in Cadence Mag.)is the best on the market. I was able to teach my self AutoCAD in 3 days with the tool. AutoDesk has its own multimedia training CD but after comparing the two the Cadd Desktop Tutor contains a hundred times more content. If you want to be an Engineer, Designer or Architect this training tool should be a requirement.

After 3 false starts with another book, Revit's built-in tutorial, and Autodesk's online tutorial (which I felt all were dead-ends), this book has been the answer to my prayers! Not only does the author know Revit very well, but he presents his lessons in a logical manner that keeps the reader's interest yet keeps it still challenging for the reader, continually expanding his envelope. The lessons are VERY clear, with many examples and graphics. I just wish I had this book a month ago!!! I am a registered architect new to CAD, having done it by hand for over 20 years....I was originally going with AutoCAD but got Revit at the urging of a structural engineer friend, and I am glad I did, especially after seeing what Revit can do versus AutoCAD!

MPEG-1,2,and 4 make multimedia content available, while MPEG-7 makes content accessible, retrievable, and filterable. This book is all about the MPEG-7 standard, its implementation, and its applications. The book is divided into six sections which I describe as follows:
Section 1, the introduction, introduces the MPEG-7 standard, history, and its motivation.
Section 2, "Systems", covers system architecture, the description definition language (MPEG-7 is expressed in XML), and the binary format for MPEG-7.
Section 3, "Multimedia Description Schemes", describes the organization of multimedia features that can be described with MPEG-7. This section shows how search, retrieval, filtering, navigation, and browsing are supported by certain MPEG-7 tools. The next two sections are the most fascinating for people involved in multimedia description and retrieval.
Section 4, "Visual Descriptors", discusses how MPEG-7 can describe visual components of images and video for efficient retrieval. Color is described in multimedia via color histograms, dominant color, and color layout. There are also texture descriptors as well as shape descriptors and motion descriptors all present in MPEG-7 to "describe" visual information.
Section 5, "Audio Descriptors", likewise, describes how audio can be indexed via specific descriptors of its content that are far less obvious than those for vision. These include automatic speech recognition techniques, finding spectral similarities, and the use of hidden Markov models. The descriptors are both high and low level. Low level descriptors use the power and the spectrum of the audio signal for data matching and description. High-level tools include melody descriptions in the case of music, recognition of words spoken, log attack time, and even "query by humming".
Section 6, "Applications", shows applications for MPEG-7 that are broadly classified into search/browsing applications and mobile applications. The browsing applications mentioned include real time video retrieval, browsing TV news broadcasts, and audio music retrieval.
A DVD is included that contains technical reports, working demos, and the official MPEG-7 reference software. The DVD demos include using MPEG-7 for video browsing and also searching for images using texture as a descriptor.
The tone of the book is academic, but there are many examples in the book that really clarify the use and expression of the standard. I recommend it to anyone interested in MPEG-7. To get the most out of the book you should already be familiar with XML, information storage and retrieval techniques, and the field of computer vision. Due to the diverse background required to really understand the book, I wouldn't let the low Amazon sales rank scare you - it really is a five star book on the subject! Also, notice that used copies can be found on Amazon Marketplace for a fraction of what a new book costs.

I really loved this book and found it very useful. If anyone is into multimedia systems, this is a must have book.

This is a great tutorial for the beginner. I felt really comfortable with the pace of the material. The step-by-step instructions were accurate and easy to follow. I read the tutorial and worked through the exercises in a total of 2 days. As a result, I was able to create a brand new PowerPoint presentation for a client's meeting. My colleagues were impressed with my ability to deliver in a matter of days. This book is a life saver!

This book was awesome, full-color photos, step-by-step. I recommend it to anyone who is serious about digital imagery.
