There is no shortage out there of advice to parents about navigating the increasingly complex American education system. Unfortunately, much of it is anecdotal, idiosyncratic, and seriously uniformed by solid research.

One can find in professional education journals analyses of what research is teaching us. Unfortunately, reading through and making sense of many of these treatises is an experience much like running through honey -- the residue on one's boots may be sweet, but the going is tough.

We are now blessed to have available a book that successfully meets the need to inform and guide parents through the educational maze for the benefit of their children by drawing on research-based knowledge. Get Smart! is both accessible and smart. Dietel, who is an academic and a communicator, writes directly and clearly -- and never condescendingly.

Get Smart! should be on the must-buy Christmas list for all parents with children in our nation's schools. It's not enough to wish that our schools were better and our kids better educated. We adults need to be smarter about enacting our responsibilities. Ron Dietel's new book can provide a great start in that direction.

Anyone who has ever used a router will learn something from this outstanding book. Initally,either novice or experienced router user might be set off by Warner's opinionated style but after using his techniques you will find his opinions are correct. The methods he conveys are designed for precision and safety. His reviews of the different types of routers is extensive and sould be read before anyone purchases either a new router or upgrades from an existing one. His opinions here propably have irratated some manufacturers but for a user they are very helpful. His extensive discussion of the appararatus used for controlling a router is the best I've ever read as is his thorough discussion of router bits. Before you buy another jig or guide for your router read this book. The money you save will pay for this book and his other two books. His extensive discussion of router tables is also very helpful. Anyone who has priced a manufactured router table lately should read this book first;what you save can purchase a new router! The pictures used throughout the book are clear, well placed, and very helpful. Although this is a short book at 137 pages it is absolutely full of immediately useful ideas. My only regret about this book was that after reading it I wanted more and more. Fortunately Pat Warner has written two more books:one on Router Jigs and another on Router Joinery both of which are just as good as this one. He also has an excellant Website. Pat Warner is a very rare type of craftsman who is a master of his craft and a masterful educator.

This is honestly a fun book if you love your childhood like I do...my mum gave it to me when I was about to go to camp the next day (day camp) and I was really scared because I hate having to leave my home alone but she gave it to me and I remember sitting and looking at it excited...anyways....It's good you learn how to use codes and check to see if someone was in your room when you were gone...very good book =)

Chaos

When I purchased a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice the logical follow up to that purchase is a repair manual that will keep this baby on the road. If it breaks down, it has to be fixed mannualy because I haven't any services near my location with appropriate prices.

I found the information to be well indexed, so that I could find precisely what I wanted (replacing the flasher unit). The descriptions are clear and concise. Most of the descriptions are illustrated with photographs. There are generous placement of exploded views and clear line illustrations. Clean and direct.

The repair manual was vary helpful. Even for a person not vary handy with their hands this repair manual will help you.

This is a very helpful, detailed source of information. However, there appears to be an error in the ring gap location as illustrated on page 3-71, in figure 175. Both diagrams are identical. This could be accurate, but if so, why is it necessary to have two diagrams? Number 85773125 appears in the figure, which might be helpful to you in locating the figure in question. Is the figure correct, or incorrect? Shouldn't one diagram be a mirror image of the other?

Great book for young golfers, new golfers, new and young golfers, or anybody else who likes reading golf books. Corbett and Aoki lead the reader on a fun path around the world of golf. The reader learns golf history, golf etiquette (which is not too surprising considering co-author Jim Corbett doubles as Mr. Golf Etiquette at www.mrgolf.com), golf terminology, lots of helpful golf tips, and finally everything is brought together in a short, entertaining golf story at the end of the book. I'm an adult myself, but I like golf books and this one was no disappointment. I originally picked up the Golfbook for Kids because I'm a fan of Mr. Golf Etiquette and all his zany humor- but Corbett and Aoki have proven they are more than just golfing around this time- they are actually darn good writers and the result is an enjoyable, positive, easy-to-read golf book.

I had the chance to read the book in French and I must say that there are not a lot of books like that ( there is more than 40 in English, lucky you!) written in French . It is possible for for me to compare because I read some of them in English... In fact you will discovre a very clearly written book, with plenty of very nice colored illustrations, changin from the B/W illustration of some, a logic distribution of the chapters. In other words I recommand it absolutely. Charles Rydel

I bought ...Power Tools for Girls in an effort to educate myself about the things our girls within the city need to know. I read through the book in a day and it made a tremendous difference in my ability to help. The book covered everything from becoming more self-assured, taking care of your body (exercise), developing social skills, finding your place in society, to great fashion tips and learning about various drugs that destroy the body (including hotlines and other resources). I find it being easy to follow for girls 8 and older, and very interactive. Janice has set out to change the way of thinking for everyone interested in bettering themselves, I recommend getting this book as a present, a gift, a reward, or just because. It's well worth it and you can't go wrong...
