Have lots of books on NLD - Like this one best so far

I can't put this book down. I've read it two times already, and plan to read it again and again. This book is unlike all the others I've read on NLD. It breaks down all those "quirky things" about NLD into their own chapters, providing real-life stories, and giving suggestions on how to handle situations that fall under each NLD characteristic. Other books explain NLD, which is good and necessary, but this book goes farther - it puts you into the mind of the NLDer. I am grateful to the mom and the therapist who collaborated on this book. I do plan to read it again - as soon as I get it back from my son's school teacher! :) (P.S. This book is an easy read - 14 short chapters, but full of "a-ha" moments.)

A fascinating and highly detailed account of the author's approach to making fly rods. The book was originally hand lettered and self-published. This edition, published by a commercial publisher, retains the hand lettering and author's hand drawn illustrations. The amount of time that went into just preparing the book--never mind all the research into technique for rod building--is staggering. I found the level of detail to be almost overwhelming for just a read-through. I'll look forward to moving the book into my work shop where all the author's attention to detail will be truly appreciated.

I will offer one word of caution. The title of the book was just a little misleading. I am a woodturner, and in part looked forward to figuring out how to use traditional turning tools and a lathe to craft a flyrod. In fact, the lathe is used to support and rotate the rod blank so that the builder can use sanding blocks to achieve the correct taper. Not quite as elegant as turning tools, but probably a lot more practical on such thin stock.

All in all an excellent and interesting book.

An accomplished wordsmith, Hilary Powers is well-known among editors for wise and practical suggestions. She's done much work in the area of figuring out how to make Microsoft Word work for you rather than against you, as is often the case. She has mastered the fine art of macros in MS Word and, that is in large part what this book addresses. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to spend their writing and editing time creatively by simplifying the repetitive maneuvers for which robots are better equipped.

Through some of the most important concepts of the business world like "strategic intent", "core competences" and "competitive forces", the authors show how to link the information with the business strategic and enable the companies to be informed. This book is one of the 90's classical (or should be:) strategic-business literature.

Managing the Testing Process: Practical Tools and Techniques for Managing Hardware and Software Testing

Portable version of an outstanding testing resource
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-21
The approach and techniques given in this book will get the new test manager and his or her team quickly started with basic techniques for managing testing. The key strengths of this book include:

(1) Instructions for developing test plans, and associated test cases and reports - the material is fairly basic, but complete and consistent with good practices.
(2) An excellent discussion of, and advice for, effective management of a test team, setting priorities and managing budgets.
(3) Practical advice for setting objectives and scope within the testing process.

While this book will give the in-the-trenches test professionals a view of the 'big picture', it's more suited to managers and QA leads who are seeking guidelines for establishing the foundation of a test process, and who want to quickly implement standards for test documentation and a workflow. The book's accompanying web page provides over 50 templates, case studies and tools that can be downloaded and immediately used within your organization. In addition, the website contains a small (but growing) collection of articles, presentations and links that augment the material in this book.

Although there are a handful of other books on test management that are equal to this one, each has strengths and weaknesses - but all provide sound advice and a structured approach to managing the test process. This particular book's strengths include the downloadable documents that will save much time and effort, and the straightforward approach to basic test management. If you are trying to get a basic test process in place you won't go wrong if you select this book.
