The Book Fly-Tying by Helen Shaw shows the way flys used to be tyed and gives all of the flytying nouns meaning. If you have ever wondered what a hackle is or any technicle question about different materials or techniqes this is the book for you. The only sad thing about this book is that it was written in the 50's and 60's as the materials show. but if you ever wondered how they made them from scratch this is the book for you!!!

The book is exceptionally well written, and the research behind it is powerful and compelling. I first came across Povinelli's work in a special Scientific American issue on intelligence, where he debated his former mentor, Gordon Gallup, on the nature and extent of chimpanzee self awareness. I was wowed by the strength and elegence of his reasoning then, and again in his previous book, "What Young Chimpanzees Know About Seeing", perhaps all the more so because his conclusions run so completely counter to what I had been conditioned to think about chimps from depictions in popular culture.

This book is even better and more full of revelations than his previous work. I couldn't put it down. On top of that, it is an outstanding example of the rigorous application of scientific method, and could provide many terrific examples for teachers trying to teach the scientific method to students.

"Folk Physics for Apes" is probably the best scientific book I've read, beating out tough competition from "The Selfish Gene" and "The Extended Phenotype" (R. Dawkins), "The Dinosaur Heresies" (R. Bakker), as well as other top notch books on the nature of mind, like "An Anthropologist on Mars" (O. Sacks) and "The Rediscovery of the Mind" (J. Searle).

Simply the best!

The 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis Shop manual has all of the data and details I have needed to repair brakes and electrical switches. Since Chilton manuals for the full size Fords aren't easily found this was a good buy

My wife says that the content is great, and I was very impressed with the physical design of the book.

These tapes may not be for all readers. But, because the production is so straight-laced and the content is so...precise, it ends up being a great laugh. The production is so professional that it really ends up being a serious language course!

I really like the idea of a cookbook of practical training tips and Ms. Bozarth is the best person to edit it. You can tell that people who contributed their ideas and materials are real working trainers and their stuff has already been useful for some of my classes. Pair this with Ms. Bozarth's other two books and you have a great training library.

The book has an emphasis on the origins of the ninja culture itself and then flows into the origins of the specific weapons used by the people who would later be known as ninja. In addition to the obvious purpose to inform the reader of the ninja's mysterious past, I feel the book was written to denounce myths and Hollywood representations the ninja have come to be known for today. I truly appreciate the author's attention to detail in his drawings so the reader may picture how the tools and weapons were used for both survival and basic instruments for gardening and construction. The book is of course not without its faults. Many readers may struggle with the vocabulary without first consulting the glossary of terms given in the book. After reading this book, I feel I have a deeper understanding and richer appreciation for what I have learned in the martial arts and the potential the art of ninjutsu has to offer.

Very good portrait and explanation of german fortifications used in the rugged italian terrain. A good reference for the hystorian of fortifications or the problems encountered by the 5th US Army in Italy. Based on this german experience the hystorian can also understand the standards used to build the post WW2 fortifications along the cold war borders.

There is no shortage out there of advice to parents about navigating the increasingly complex American education system. Unfortunately, much of it is anecdotal, idiosyncratic, and seriously uniformed by solid research.

One can find in professional education journals analyses of what research is teaching us. Unfortunately, reading through and making sense of many of these treatises is an experience much like running through honey -- the residue on one's boots may be sweet, but the going is tough.

We are now blessed to have available a book that successfully meets the need to inform and guide parents through the educational maze for the benefit of their children by drawing on research-based knowledge. Get Smart! is both accessible and smart. Dietel, who is an academic and a communicator, writes directly and clearly -- and never condescendingly.

Get Smart! should be on the must-buy Christmas list for all parents with children in our nation's schools. It's not enough to wish that our schools were better and our kids better educated. We adults need to be smarter about enacting our responsibilities. Ron Dietel's new book can provide a great start in that direction.
