This book's strength lies in the variety of information provided. Included are tips on everything from the best time of year to travel to different countries to making sure you get there in one piece, on time, with all of your training materials and that you don't offend anyone on your way. The exploration of the different learning styles in different cultures is invaluable in this day and age when, even if you are presenting training in your home town, the training may be broadcast and used by people all over the world. I already own her book, "Ethnic Interiors" and love it. I ordered this book online thinking it would be just as good. But it's actually the exact same book with a different cover. No kidding! I have no idea why she'd release the two books with different covers but identical content, but that's what's happened here. The content is wonderful. I wrote a great Amazon review of for the other book, which I won't repeat here. But I'm terribly disappointed that no one has bothered to mention in the item description that the two books are the same. I guess I'll be passing this book on as a gift.

Vicker and Hein's book, "The Fast Forward MBA in Business Communication" is a must have for business people in all levels of experience. "The Fast Forward" doesn't miss a step in modern business communication from basic memo writing to more advanced writing such as proposals and requests for proposals. This book is written in easy to understand language with charts, graphs, and plenty of sample documents that makes it extremely user friendly. It has a back to the basics approach that reminds even a frequent business document writer of some all-too-often overlooked ideas and concepts surrounding business communication. Especially useful is Vicker and Hein's revised four-step writing and editing process. Their addition creates a much needed six-step process that allows writers more thought and time during the crucial editing step. "Fast Forward" should find its place in business offices as a handbook and quick reference for business documents and other resources. It is also suitable for the college classroom. I used "Fast Forward" in a business communication course and it served as an excellent resource for my students. Vicker and Hein make tough ideas easy through excellent writing, lay-out and design. It is clear that they employed their six-step writing and editing process.

It's easy to read, and anyone who hears Dr. O'Tuel speak must have the book to look for the continuing warmth which she delivers. If anyone ever left footprints on thousands of hearts, it's this author with the powerful touch she brings through her book and her presentations. It's a delight!

If you are new to Form Z, get this book. In very clear and concise directions, with loads of illustrations, the book provides the very best introduction to Form Z. I had tried other books but I was completely lost. (Some computer authors really like to talk only about themselves.) From creating objects, to rooms, to buildings, to lighting, to landscape, the book provides a strong basis for using Form Z on your own. I also really liked the author's insights into architectural form and context. This is a book for designers, architects, landscape architects etc. It gets you immediately into understanding the logic of the program, and gives you the capabilities to work quickly and creatively . I highly recommend this book.

Visual Approach to Form Based Applications.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-07-08
Prevailing e-commerce and e-business applications are form-based, i.e., the user interaction with the systems is via a set of forms. This book presents a formal yet practical integrated solution to the design, analysis and specification of such applications. The formalism presented in the book draws on intuitive understanding of form-based systems in which the form allows interaction via message passing. The formalism allows abstraction from unnecessary details and focusing on the design and analysis of the business logic and its effect on the form.

On the practical side, the book presents a host of diagrams such as formcharts, page diagrams and screen diagrams to deal with different aspects of form-oriented design. Considering the limitations of diagrams, the authors also present a domain specific language called Dialogue Constraint Language that extends the Object Constraint Language (OCL) to accommodate the specification of dialogues in form-based applications. Relying on such a wealth of modeling artifacts, the book proposes a set of methods for the modeling of the data and communications between the different components of a form-based system.

This is a must have book for the professional analyst, modeler and programmer involved in the design, specification or development of form-based projects. The book provides the methods and the artifacts to better model form-oriented systems.

Design/Specify/Document a Forms Based System
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-09
This is a book that has been needed for a long time. There have been studies in the past, indeed a body of knowledge even, on the design of paper based forms. The problem with computer based forms such as those for ordering a book from Amazon is that the forms tend to be generated by programmers, not forms specialists. In fact in this book the examples being used are from a hypothetical on line book store.

At one point the authors are giving an example of a book page of an online bookshop. On it they give an abstract of their own (that is this) book. It reads: "What is the business logic of n enterprise system? How do I specify it in such a way that I know how to transform it into a running system, by skill and by automated tool support? This book gives a self-contained introduction to the modeling and development of business logic for enterprise systems."

In practice, the authors develop a couple of new technologies for the modelling of such forms. Page Diagrams are analagous to flow charts that show what a page does in terms of its interactions. From the home or Welcome page you can go register, go login, look at suggested books, do a search, etc. What links to what? What logic applies (bad password for instance, or is this user logged in). The page diagram is a way for the non-technical manager and the programmer to define exactly what a page or screen is supposed to do. It can become part of the specification that the programmer uses to produce what management wants.

The next concept the authors develop is the Form Storyboard. The storyboard shows pages with respect to the actions they cause in the server.

Other models such as information pages, and data interchange complete the description of the forms related system. For the most part, HTML based web sites are used as examples in this book. But the same kind of modelling is equally applicable to form/database related system such as accounting, payroll or other business applications.

Using the approach developed by these authors is the best way I've seen to document/specify/design a forms based interactive system.

Pushing Architecture Beyond
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-06
A great book illustrating what Sci-Arc is and does for the institution of Architecture. Sci-Arc is clearly pushing the boundary as to what is preceived as architecture not only within itself but also for the community in whole. A good choice if interested in thinking how architecture can be understood on a deeper level or from a educational stand point of what is Sci-Arc philosophy. Also, Thom Mayne won the Pritzker Architectual Award this year who is one the guys that founded Sci-Arc.

Radical alternative to conventional architectural education
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-26
Founded in 1972 as a radical alternative to conventional architectural education, SCI-Arc continues to defy the standard model of an academic institution. According to Neil Denari, SCI-Arc's Director,"since its beginning, the school has always been about ideas of progress and the frontier, by exploring architecture as the fusion of aesthetic, social and cultural concerns." SCI-Arc is continuing that traditional by teaching people to see, design and develop things other people don't see -by not only educating architects, but also by the school's lecture series, community projects, exhibitions, and publications such as this one by Monacelli.

Anyone interested in education, design and/or the creative process should enjoy this book!
