I purchased this book about a year ago, and I have now read it pretty-much cover-to-cover. It is an excellent book. What I have found is that there are very few books on the market that cater to the individual who wants to build a microcomputer, starting from square one. This book caters to that market. If you are trying to build a Motorola 68000 system "from scratch", this book is for you. Be aware that there are a few pieces of information in the book that seem to be out of date. For instance, in the "working system" Mr. Antonakos describes how to build, he recommends an easier-to-use version of a UART that was apparently meant for the old Motorola 6800. The serial communications chip he recommends is now obsolete. However, as I have plowed my way through the morass of parts sellers and other charlatans, I have found that MANY parts are obsolete, even ones listed in the current catalogs of some of the biggest, most reputable IC distributors. Antonakos cannot be blamed for that. If you are interested in "building from scratch" with a Motorola 68000, also be aware of another data point : the 68000 seems to have an obituary written on it. My nose tells me Motorola is going to pull the carpet out from under it, maybe soon, or maybe not for another couple of years. In any case, it doesn't seem like the 68000 is going to be around for long. If you want to do it (build your own 68000 system), get this book and do it now !

This is a very good introduction about the 68000 from a pratical point of view, both at the assembly language level and at the hardware level.Only bad point is the accluded diskette which i found very tricky to use.The style of exposition of mr Antonakos is outstanding and very easy to follow.A great introduction to the 68000.

I've never used PowerPoint before so I ordered this book. I'm so glad I did. I got started right away and in no time, I was creating my own presentations. The explanations are clear and to the point and the illustrations helped me from losing my place.

I should mention that even though this book is geared for beginners, it goes into enough detail to appeal to many different levels of users. Check out the table of contents and you'll see what I mean. Great job Mr. Gilgen!

I needed some help in creating a presentation. I checked out four books on Powerpoint from my library. I read them all, and this book was by far the best. I have returned all the books to the library, and I will now buy this book for my permanent, personal library.

This is the best introductory accounting book I've ever seen. I've been fortunate to attend the university where the authors teach, and have studied accounting under both Stice and Swain. The book is very clear, without the instructor's explanation (and the instructors are funny as heck and absolutely know the material) and I recommend it to anyone.

The Accu-Calc System gives the user a choice as to how you want to answer the test problems: formula method, ratio/proportion and the dimensional analysis method.
I cannot express how helpful this system is in order to accurately prepare the Nursing Student for their test(s). The Math for Meds book is a good primer however, Accu-Calc is an even greater asset to have throughout Nursing school. You are tested on fractions, ratios, percents, metric conversions, and Medical Abbreviations. Then there are more advanced testing for medication dosages that are priceless.

Excellent Introductory Text to Acoustic & Auditory Phonetics

Review Date: 2000-05-30
Johnson's text fills a lacuna in Phonetics primers by introducing the fundamentals of acoustics in terms that students new to phonetics can grasp.

Johnson intersperses fairly complex issues with practical applications of the concepts making the text approachable. These practical applications often can be translated into classroom exercises and are occasionally humorous.

I found the explanation of waves, harmonics, and formants particularly clear and helpful. The segue from acoustics to auditory phonetics is seamless.

Adding this text to the reading list of my intro to phonetics class (undergrad) reaped pleasant rewards.

This text is appropriate for undergraduate or graduate students with limited exposure to acoustic and auditory phonetics, but is useful for even seasoned phoneticians.

Excellent Introduction to the Subject!!!!

This has to be one of the best texts on phonetics I've ever encountered. Dr. Johnson takes some very difficult concepts in accoustic theory and makes them accessible to the beginning student.

Unfortunately this book has not had an update since the first edition. Nevertheless, as a cientist in the area of solar energy I still use it very often, both for teaching and for reference. To my knowledge, this book is the best general account on the subject of solar collector optics, specially regarding imaging concetrating systems. For non-imaging systems I would rather recommend the book "nonimaging optics" by Winston et al.. But the book is also very good regarding the heat transfer analysis of solar collectors and the economic analysis of solar energy systems. It is simply a must for engineers developing solar thermal systems, along with Duffie and Beckman's "Solar engineering of thermal processes".

Excellent book - poor quality reproduction

This is a "must-have" book for Engineers and Scientists involved in the design and development of solar collectors and systems(except photovoltaics). An engineering or science background is required to fully appreciate this book. I use it as a text book in a fourth-year-course on solar energy for Mechanical Engineering students. Though it is already 17 years old, I have not found any other book on this subject that comes even close to Rabl's in developing the material from basic principles with such clarity and elegance.
I had ordered this book as a replacement for my first copy that is falling apart from over-use. Unfortunately, the current copy is a poor reproduction (a scanned version, rather than a reprint). Still, it is readable. All missprints are also reproduced. I am happy to share the list of errors (one by Rabl from 1986 plus a few more that I detected) with anyone interested...

This book is one of the most excellent texts of it's kind. While providing sound and applicable information for the professional, it also is infinately readable for self help. Dr. Cross is amazingly generous with his information. His writing style in interesting and clear. As someone who has studied a wide range of alternative medical practices, I really appreciate Dr. Cross's ability to boil down huge amounts of information into very practical and usable applications. All of his books are a must for someone seriously interested in bringing the maximum to their health care practice.

Excellent presentation of Acupressure and the practical applications associated with Acupressure. Emphasis placed on how the art relates to Western medicine. Information is presented in a clear, concise, easy-to-understand manner that covers everything from the basics to advanced techniques used by the "masters". Highly useful and recommended as a resource for those involved in the allied health professions or the lay-person with an interest in Acupressure.

Truly Mobile Wireless Networking
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-14
The concept of as Ad-Hoc, especially a Mobile Ad hoc NETwork - MANET is of a set of devices with communications needs that are not tied to fixed base stations. Rather like the cellular phone network if the base stations were also mobile. This obviously requires that all communications be wireless. The network gets more complex as the devices move, perhaps at different speeds and directions, and as the communications links may not be symetrical, or equivalent speed. An obvious application for a MANET is a modern rapidly moving battlefield such as that in the Iraq wars. Other applications include disaster recovery where a MANET might be set up in hours rather than days -- note the time to re-establish communications in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

This book is the result of research that covers vertually every aspect of MANETs included Routing, Scability, Quality of Service, Security, Energy Conservation, Topology, Standards, and Implementation.

Getting stuck with the right adhesives.

Review Date: 2005-11-02
"Adhesives Technology for Electronic Applications" is the first book dedicated exclusively to the electronic applications of adhesives. It leaves no need for another such book, at least until this generation gives way to nano or other adhesives. It is many books in one: textbook, handbook, reference book, catalog, history book. Together, all exhaustively cover the what, why, and how of electronics adhesives.

First, the history traces the development of adhesives for electronics assembly through four generations, beginning in the 1960's, revealing the problems encountered and solved as adhesive chemistry grew more sophisticated.

The textbook follows, providing the physics and chemistry foundations in a theory of how adhesives work. The four main functions of electronics adhesives, adhesion, electrical conductivity, heat transfer, and stress control, are examined sequentially. The chemistry chapter details the formulations and properties of eight major adhesive families used in electronics. For the chemically competent, this may be a well-structured refresher.

Past these textbook underpinnings, the handbook/catalog begins with the chapter on bonding manufacturing processes. This longest chapter (93 pages, 25 tables) follows the factory production flow, from pre-cleaning to final curing, and, alas, rework. Material, equipment, and processes are extensively covered, both with tables of generic information and examples of commercial products and their features, by supplier and model number.

The reference book takes a different useful viewpoint, examining all the major adhesive end-use applications. It illustrates how different requirements logically lead to different adhesive solutions. The message is clear: in the world of adhesives, one size doesn't fit all.

The concluding two chapters, on reliability and on testing, are a logical pair, sharing tables of specifications, test methods, and examples of test results. One useful table lists the sources for many government and commercial specifications and standards.

Overall, the book judiciously mixes clear explanations with extensive tabular information and more than 400 literature references. Having no index to the 76 tables is a minor annoyance. However, frequent users will no doubt bookmark their most-used tables

I recommend this book without reservation to everyone in electronics who must understand adhesives, or make decisions about adhesives, or both.
