I've recently been forced into the digital revolution. Although I have some knowledge of PCs, it's sometimes a challenge to get my computer to function to its fullest (my fault not the computer's) This book has been wonderful. There is so much useful information here, I'm not sure where to start. My favorite section is "tips and tricks." Tons of stuff on how to get the most from a PC. The book has articles on Web shopping, investing, travel, avoiding ripoffs, the history of the Internet, how to shop for a computer, and plenty more useful stuff about the Web and computers - and here's the part I really like: If I run into a word I don't understand while reading, I can easily flip to the dictionary and look it up. Even with all that, I think my favorite section is the 200 Cool Websites. I've spent hours exploring the Web using it. This is a great reference book!

Great Concordance for users of the NRSV

Review Date: 2002-10-23
The Analytical Concordance to the New Revised Standard Version of the New Testament is a great tool for those wishing to work with the New Testament of the NRSV.

Take note that this is a concordance for the NEW TESTAMENT ONLY. It is "exhaustive" in the sense that it indexes every important word but leaves out the articles, modifiers, pronouns and such that usually are not theologically significant for finding a passage in the Bible.

One area of disagreement is centered in the book's introduction. The editors state that the Greek-English index is not a dictionary.

I beg to differ.

The NIVEC (NIV Exhaustive Concordance) was based upon this same indexing method (should be since John R. Kohlenberger III was one of the editors). According to the editors of the NIVEC, the indexes do indeed constitute a lexicon in that the range of meaning is given by the different words used to translate the original Greek.

So, this index does, in fact, constitute a dictionary and the general meaning of the Greek word can easily be found by simply looking at the words which were used to translate the Greek word in the NRSV.

Good buy and a good reference tool. Highly recommended.

This is a must-have!

Finally, a good analytical concordance for the NRSV

Finally, 11 years after the New Revised Standard Version was first published, a usable analytical concordance on said version has been published. Whitaker & Kohlenberger follow the familar format of Strong's concordance, using the newer translation. For those of us who do not know Greek, it is a great time-saving and usable work.

This is an excellent beginner's law book. This is also helpful for accountants preparing to take their CPA exam. This book has side references on questions and parts that have been used on the CPA exam. I highly recommend keeping this book as a basic easy to read and follow reference tool for legal issues concerning corporate entities.

This is an excellent compendium of the major subject areas
taught in a business law course. The book has a fair coverage
of legal rights, government regulatory processes, contracts,
personal property, sales, commercial paper, creditor rights,
agency and employment, partnerships, corporations, real property,
the Uniform Commercial Code and an index. The work presents
typical case studies utilizing the classic factual patterns and
the decision. There are important case studies contained
for student homework assignments and class participation.
The work is edited by some important CPA Review giants like
Dr. Fox -famous for his rendition of the CPA law review.
It is a worthy purchase for anyone studying business law or
sitting for the CPA Examination.

The work is easy to read considering the complexity of some
of the topics discussed. i.e. HDC (holder in due course)
The grammar and sentence structure are very readable for students.

Simply the best guide to chintz patterns and pricing. Very well researched, and the shapes and catalog pages at the back are especially helpful. I do wish the pattern photographs on each page were both larger and of better quality, though ~ that would seem a better match with the sterling quality of the rest of the book.

A breathtaking must for anyone interested in Chintz

This is a stunningly beautiful book packed completely with beautiful photographs. For someone interested in collecting chintz, this is the absolute best thing I've found for learning about the range of patterns. That range is far more extensive than one would expect from the sparse collections of chintz at antique shops and shows. This book will fire the imagination!

Hats off to Toby Velte for this awesome refernce book. I currently hold CWNA and CWSP wireless certifications as well as CCNA and CCDA, and I find ths book packed with some great reference material.

Usually when you see a "Quick Reference" book means that it has limited information and explanations. Not so with this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who works on wireless networks or are planning on implementing wireless.

A Pretty Complete 'Quick' Reference
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-08
Most quick references are litle cut down booklets that usually just give you enough information to get you in trouble. The Velte's idea of a quick reference run for 288 pages. It's a reference all right, but the amount of data contained in it is enough so you can probably really solve the problem that you are looking up.

This is a Cisco book, so the material being discussed is oriented around Cisco products. But remember that Cisco owns Linksys and Aironet, so this book covers the traditional Cisco product line and also those of the other companies. A good bit of the book is on the 802.11 standard itself. This includes such things as frequencies, security procedures, generalized design tips on how to design your network and so on.

Cisco has quite a number of certifications that apply to networking and to wireless. There isn't enough information in this book to enable you to pass the certification test (Or at least, there isn't enough for me to pass it.) but there's probably enough to enable you to get your network going.

Excellent Quick Reference

Review Date: 2006-02-25
The Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference book by Toby J, Velte, PH.D. and Anthony T. Velte, has pretty much everything you would want to know about wireless networking using Cisco Systems Aironet devices. I was thinking this book would just contain quick commands on configuring access points, configuring Cisco Aironet Wireless cards and so on, boy was I wrong.

Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference has a lot to offer. First off it is a small size book. Can be easily thrown into someone's admin bag and pulled out for reference. Well organized Table of Contents, easy to find a particular topic. This book would be good for a beginner looking to find some useful info on Cisco Aironet products or a expert looking to refresh on a particular topic pertaining to Aironet devices. The first part of the book goes over technique specs, and the second goes over "after installation issues". The first chapter goes over Cisco Wireless Equipment, Access Points, Bridges, WLAN Controllers, and adapters. You will find useful information on the different models of Access Points, adapters and so on. There is a pretty extensive chart showing and comparing the different properties of access points, different antenna and so forth. Very useful information like signal range, noise ratio's etc.

There is a chapter dedicated just to antenna's. Which antenna to use for the right application, omni directional, bi directional among others. You will also find a comparison chart with information and specs relating to each antenna. Again, very useful information for a WLAN implementation. Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference has a very in-depth section on WLAN encryption security and authentication. Shows you examples of configuring filtering, RADIUS server setup and WPA. Initial Setup, cabling sections are very well written as well. This book will help you with integrating a wired LAN and your new WLAN. The figures are well displayed, and there are real pictures of the devices mentioned in the book.

I recommend Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference for a beginner in the WLAN world. Looking for a starting point if they want to pursue a CQS cert in Wireless. As mentioned earlier, it would also benefit a expert as a quick reference when encountering a problem with there existing WLAN or a new implementation. In a rating of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest. This book gets a 5 hands down.

Making it easier to understand the IOS and routers.

Review Date: 2001-10-05
Most of the time when a book claims to be a complete reference there is quite a lot of information left out. However in this case the information is complete and covers all the releases of the Cisco IOS from Version 9 to 12.

Only 350 pages, but don't be fooled, what is inside is a vast amount of reference information that will help in understanding how the release are built and what changes have been made, as well as what releases work with what routers and switches.

The 3 part breakdown of the book start in part 1 with how the IOS architecture is laid out and how the IOS has evolved over the years. Also you gain an insight into the naming conventions used with the IOS as well.

In part 2 this is where you begin to breakdown each IOS, in a table format that makes it easy to see what changes have been made, what equipment if affects. Covering Versions 9.X. 10.X, 11.0 to 11.3(2) and 12.0/12.0T to 12.0(7)XV.

In part 3, the hardware and IOS section, coverage of basic router and switch functions takes place. Using the ROM monitor and router architecture is also looked at. This book provides and excellent reference by showing you how the router functions and what takes place during the operation.

You must have known that Cisco has a lot varieties of Cisco IOS. Yet do anyone know what 11.2(T) and 11.2 differs ? I bet you dont' know much. This book unleashed all the cisco IOS revisions and their details. So you'll never puzzled out of 'hey what's is on this version'.

Good luck, buy it, CHeap and save time and efforts.

Excellent! This book is full of answers that I have been trying to get for the longest time. Maybe the title should have been " demystifying Cisco IOS Software Releases." Indispensable to net admin. The detachable poster-map of IOS Releases helps me quickly identify the correct software release for my implementation. In several occasions I have already referred to the appendixes which contain the IOS feature set and image naming format, and the IOS product numbering scheme.

This book, written by several of data broadcast specification authors, is The Definitive Work on the ATSC Data Broadcast specification.

If you are an implementer of data broadcasting, you need exactly two things: a copy of the specification and a copy of this book.

Great work

I highly recommend this book to all those who develop or maintain data broadcasting systems.

The good point is that it is not at all a replication of the specification (though a true copy of the A/90 spec is added as an appendix). The concepts are clear, progressive and sufficiently illustrated.

Chapter 3 alone tells you most you need to know about MPEG-2 Systems standard. I gained extra insight from it even after I had studied the original 13818-1 spec.

A great MPEG Systems reference too

Review Date: 2002-03-28
I found this book to be a great resource for the engineering and design fundamentals that relate to the question "how is all that data formatted and organized in digital television broadcasting?" The MPEG-2 Systems Standard is one of the foundations of digital television. If you're interested in how MPEG-2 really works at the system level, you'll find this book an excellent resource. The chapter on MPEG Transport by itself is worth the price of the book, but it also does a great job explaining another arcane MPEG-2 Standard, Digital Storage Media Command and Control (DSM-CC). It turns out DSM-CC is very useful in data broadcasting, but if you were to pick up the IEC standard itself and try to make sense of it, you'd find it very challenging.

Even though broadcasters have not started transmitting data along with digital television, this book sets the framework for understanding how it will be done. It's written by those experts in the field who actually designed the standard, so you know the information is accurate.

Detailed Fibre Channel Protocol Information

If it's not in this book you'd better hope you never need it! This book gives detailed byte-by-byte descriptions of data fields inside fibre channel packets, and even goes one step farther to describe how the individual light pulses get converted into those bytes.

The only drawback is its age when compared to some of the moving standards. In a few cases, fibre channel (i.e. FC-SW) has been extended beyond what is in this book but I have yet to find any better reference.

This book is very well organized and fun to read. It presents an extremely complicated topic in a clearly written and well-diagrammed fashion. It also presents with much more humour than is usually the case for books on engineering standards. I especially like a nearly blank page that is marked with "This page is blank, and we INTENDED it to be BLANK! Make the flow of things nicer, doesn't it?".

This book is now some years old, but the information contained within is still valid, and this is a must for all engineers who want to understand both the software and hardware issues with Fibre Channel.

The only thing that is a bit misleading is that this is not what is normally considered large print. The print is bigger than some of the other small Bibles but I still need my reading glasses.

I passed my JNCIS by this book, I am recommending this book to all my friends who are scattered across various ISP's in the european region that have also implemented Juniper at the amsterdam internet exchange, london internet exchange etc across europe..
