BOMB BIBLEReview Date: 2008-06-02
Outstanding study toolReview Date: 2005-11-02
As advertised, the NKJV, NIV, TNIV, ESV, HCSB, NLT, NCV and The Message are included. As with most parallel Bibles, my ideal choice would have had a couple different version (NASB instead of The Message, NLT or NCV), but the addition of the HCSB and ESV were very valuable to me since I do not have copies of these highly thought of translations. I am not a fan of paraphrased translations either, but in a large parallel Bible, it is excusable in my opinion.
Also, unlike some other parallel Bibles I have, the verses line up nicely -meaning, you don't have to turn pages to compare verses.
The book is a little bulky for carrying to church on a daily basis considering many would want to have access to the Old Testament as well.
Another superb addition to my study library.
Good Parallel NTReview Date: 2003-10-22
NIV, TNIV, NLT, NCV, The Message, and the HCSB. One
can do good comparison study using these translations.
A few are fairly new to the church: the ESV, TNIV and HCSB.
While I would have made other choices about which translations
to include this is a good parallel NT.
What makes this parallel
NT so good are the two essays in
the introductory material. The first is by Mark Strauss
on the strenghts of functional
and formal equivalent translations. This essay by Strauss is worthy
of study by every pastor and student of the Bible.
I wish
Oxford would publish it in a booklet so it could receive the
wide readership it deserves.
The second essay
is good too. It is about the different
text types of the Greek NT and serves as a nice introduction
to the subject.
Until
Oxford finds a way to publish the essay by Strauss
you'll have to buy this parallel NT.

This IS Giant PrintReview Date: 2006-06-06
This particular Bible I am reviewing has thumb-indexing, which I cannot abide and do not recommend to anyone, especially new Bible readers, else they will never learn on their own the placement of the various books. This Bible gets my highest recommendation. The only thing it lacks are book intros and a Harmony of the Gospels. But---easy on the eyes it definitely is, and the HCSB is a remarkably accurate translation, AND easy to read, as well.(It is more accurate than the NIV). But, try to get one without the thumb-indexing.

A lifesaver - LOVE it!Review Date: 2006-01-31
The Hcsb audio read by David Payne is also a WONDERFUL accompaniment to this.
ExcellentReview Date: 2007-02-06
As for the HCSB version:
Most modern translations have verses missing in the New Testament when comparing the modern versions to the King James Version. Some modern Bibles are missing as many as 18 verses in the New Testament, but the HCSB includes nearly all those missing verses, so it will likely be more satisfying to those looking for an easier to read Bible than the KJV, but one comparable to the KJV. The KJV reads at about 12th grade reading level, and though I love its beauty, its language is simply outdated, and was outdated even 100 years ago. The HCSB by contrast reads at around the 8th grade reading level. The HCSB is a new version that is not based upon previous Bible versions, and it takes into account the most modern Biblical research. It is accurate, up-to-date, easy-to-read, and the truly Giant Print text is very easy on the eyes. A great Bible!

Introduction to Fall Protection, 3rd EditionReview Date: 2004-09-06
J. Nigel Ellis, Ph.D., P.E., CSP
514 pages
This book is an excellent source of comprehensive technical information written in an easy to read and easy to understand style by a leading authority in the field of industrial and construction fall protection.
The 12 chapters, 7 appendices, and 80-page glossary of terms and references are logically arranged. Over 240 illustrations and tables help readers understand concepts. The 9-page index helps one quickly locate material.
I like the format and the fact that it almost doubled in size, as compared to the 2nd edition. This contains a wealth of useful information relating to falls and fall protection.
The book addresses various Fall Protection Codes of Practice including the OSHA standards and the ANSI standards.
It is most helpful guide in learning about falls and fall protection, and is valuable reading for all people and organizations concerned with falls and fall prevention, such as contractors, people in trades with fall exposures, property owners, builders, and attorneys.
This book is on the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) list of Safety Resources recommended for use in preparing for the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) exams.

Excellent text on fall protection!Review Date: 1999-04-11
Fortunately, serious injuries from falls occur only rarely, because falls only occur rarely. The chance of a person falling while exposed to heights is remote, which may lead to complacency.
A person may not use fall protection for many reasons.....I've been doing it this way for years and nothing happened; I'm too tough; I didn't know; it takes too long; it is uncomfortable; etc. The person receives positive reinforcement by the fact that they didn't fall. Every time a person doesn't fall while performing a job unsafely increases the positive reinforcement, and makes it more likely the same task will be again performed unsafely.
This book helps us realize the importance of knowing why to use fall protection (education) and how to install fall protection (engineering).
The principles in the book should be used to train all workers exposed to falls. If a person doesn't catch on, retraining is necessary, or perhaps enforcement. This should be done before the biggest negative reinforcement happens, serious injury from a fall.
I am the site safety manager for steel erection for a large steel erection company. We are following a 100% fall protection over 6 feet. Very interesting with ironworkers that are used to working at much greater heights without fall protection. I am able to use the principals I learned from Dr. Ellis' book!

ITIL v2- the book that deserved more attentionReview Date: 2007-11-29

Without the knowledge exposed in this book, some people could just think about ITIL as a methodology that only improves technical support or help desk. If you are beginner with ITIL I strongly suggest to consider this title instead of buying the two ITIL core books. It gives you the right information and what is better it provides you with valuable and concise information about the other disciplines. Of course, if you are considering implementing the methodology, the two ITIL core books (support and delivery) offer a very, very detailed approach.

F&F good as always...Review Date: 2001-05-21
And, of course, the Friedberg numbering scheme is the standard method of referencing notes among collectors and dealers alike.
It should be noted however, that the values given for the notes are very rough approximations (very conservative). This is especially true for the UNC grade(MS60-64). There are no values for GEM notes (MS65+).
If you're looking for a comprehensive note reference with ball park values, this book is for you.

Excellent as a broadly scoped reference bookReview Date: 2008-05-31
Some information is already out of date. For example, on page 580 it says that the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) expired in 2003 and Congress was still debating reauthorization. The new act (SAFETEA-LU) was enacted in August 2005 and is not mentioned.
My only real complaint is that the type is quite small and can be difficult to read for 40+ year-old readers. On the other hand, I understand that if they used larger type this huge, heavy book would be even bigger and heavier.
I also got the electronic, online version of the book and was disappointed in that, again because of the small type. Even using a 20" monitor I had a very hard time reading it. The viewer application that Amazon uses has very limited capability to zoom in on the text so it does not help.
