"The material contained in this new edition of Milady's Standard Textbook of Professional Barber-Styling has been completely revised and brought up-to-date with respect to BOTH THE THEORY AND THE PRACTICE OF BARBER-STYLING.

The theory of barber-styling denotes the great fund knowledge available in this field, and has been developed into a systematic and coherent body of related barber-styling information.

The practice deals with the skill and dexterity demonstrated by the professional practitioner in the performance of the various barber-styling services....."

Unchallenged Resource

Like the closely related workbook (sold separately), this stands out due to the lack of competition.

Its comprehensiveness and accessibility exists without comparative examples.

Again, one unproven resource always will helps if no other exists.

Just The Bible My Son Wanted:

Review Date: 2006-01-29
This was a much desired Christmas Gift for my son who is a minister. He wanted the King James Version and a thin reference bible. He also was pleased withe the index tabs for the books of the bible. The translation is very accurate and the binding seems secure. It is very convenient for him to carry to church.

Excellent Translation and Binding

I find this translation to be exceptionally accurate and up to date. The compaints some might have of it is that of it's readibility. It is not as readable as NIV or the New Living Translation, but it is very accurate and is similar to the New King James Version, which I also believe to be accurate. I'm a youth minister, so my bibles take a lot of abuse going from camps to missions projects, so this binding is really nice.

The New American Standard Strongs Exhaustive Concordance is an invaluable tool in doing any serious Bible study. The dictionary at the back of the book leaves allot to be desired however, so I use the Vine's Expository Dictionary which is also keyed to the Strong's numbering system. With this concordance you can find any passage, any reference quick and easy.

Excellent Resource

Review Date: 2002-10-10
As a head of a ministry involved in spiritual mapping this book is by far the best resource available. Though it may be cost prohibitive for some; it is extremely necessary for anyone or any group that is involved in spiritual mapping.

The cartography is excellent and detailed. The sections well defined and divided. All in all a reference that is required for all in spiritual mapping.

An excellent reference on religion in America
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-04-25
...The authors of this reference work have expended a great deal of time and energy putting together a comprehensive review of the American religious experience from the earliest times through the 1990s.

The exquisite cartographic works presented by the authors, and the eloquent accompanying text will certainly be a pleasure to readers. In fact, readers will find that in many sections of the book, the authors' prose is nearly as colorful and equally as informative as any map displayed throughout the entire work. Religious scholars and students alike will find the bibliographies at the end of each section to be an indispensable springboard to deeper studies on select topics. In and of themselves, these bibliographies would make an excellent reference work. The authors should give significant thought to the development of a freestanding bibliography based on the bibliographic references provided in this work. This would be another significant piece of scholarship for the academic community studying this topic.

While I can't recommend this book as something for everyone's coffee table, the work fits in nicely with larger public libraries, special libraries and in the collections of colleges and universities.

A must for any Prolog programmer
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-26
This book is a must for anyone doing serious Prolog programming. The book itself is a standard in clarity, concision and rigor.

There are minor drawbacks:
1. Poor paper quality and binding. Any programmer striving to write portable Prolog programs would use it heavily and the poor qualify shows off in just a month of daily use. Unfortunately, the form is not at the same level as the content.
2. The predefined predicates lack a listing by page (although they are listed by topic). This makes finding a certain particular predicate rather cumbersome when looked up frequently.
3. Minor typos.

Otherwise, no one serious about Prolog can afford to overlook this book.

Prolog:The Standard:Reference Manual

The title of this book accurately describes its organization and content. Although numerous examples of each language feature are given throughout the book, it is definitely not intended to be a tutorial. For that purpose, a beginning user of PROLOG should look elsewhere.

However, the book fills a definite need in the PROLOG programming community. Many dialects of this langugage exist in the academic world and this book provides standard definitions and usage of PROLOG syntax and functionality. Hopefully, it will provide more uniformity for the various implementations of PROLOG when referenced by the compiler writers. But it is definitely useful for programmers who are writing PROLOG programs.

Could be better

Review Date: 2008-08-20
This is the 7th edition of the CBE Manual, now renamed as CSE. I'm a science proofreader and typesetter and I must say I'm somewhat disappointed. In only a couple of hours browsing the book I've found a lot of mistakes in the math notation. Examples: 5.2.1.3, 2), missed + after dots; 13.3.1, the last integral has the pi misplaced (a serious problem, as the example is intended to show how indexes are placed); Table 12.11, f(x,y) should be italics, not upright; 12.3.2.1, |z> for the state of a system is wrong, as the character used is 'greater than' an not an angle bracket (which is not mentioned at all); according to 12.2.1.1, 3) space in units (eg, V s) is discouraged and a centered dot is preferred (V·s), but except in this chapter the book uses the space (rightly), etc. The Chicago Manual is much better in math. Now I wonder if the rest of the book has similar mistakes and the information is reliable. Selection of topics is also questionable. Still a valuable reference, but it should be used warily.

Scholarly Documentation

Review Date: 2008-06-08
Everyone who is a scholar or academician must know how to handle various formats of documentation styles. CSE represents one of these, specifically in the field of the natural and physical sciences. Another one is APA published by the American Psychological Association, which is mainly utilized in the social sciences. Finally, in the humanities, especially language, literature and folklore, fine arts, etc., a scholar needs to use the MLA, Moderna Language Association style. By the way, here at Amazon you can get the latest edition of the MLA, 3rd ed., just published in May, 2008. Good luck in your scholarship ///Dr. Serafin Roldan

Statistical Quality tools

Review Date: 2008-02-24
Easy to read, the Control process quality tools are explained with a good detail. DoEs and RSM are not so in details but they are a bit out of the scope of the book. You can reach the files of the excercise by dowloading them from the Internet site, so there is no need to "add more weight" with a CD. Reading it, it is not wasting your time.

Perfect blend of practical MINITAB and theoretical Six Sigma
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-26
Immanuel Kant, the great German philosopher, once said that "experience teaches nothing without theory, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play". In my opinion, he might as well have been referring to this text by Henderson, since it is the perfect blend of practical MINITAB and theoretical Six Sigma. Graphical and textual MINITAB output is interspersed abundantly alongside discussions on how to use the software appropriately. The many example illustrations are extremely helpful to the most novice Six Sigma practitioner, but this text can be used far beyond Green Belt training. Henderson discusses data analysis, statistical models, control charts, process capability, and process experimentation etc while always providing the statistical formulas that MINITAB uses behind the user interface to enable readers advanced understanding of the software in case they are interested. Occasionally, the author includes diagrams that are not creatable by MINITAB (e.g. the power curve for the statistical test in his chapter on process experimentation with a single factor), but he promptly discloses such situations. Well recommended!

I bought this as a gift for my little sister for her birthday. She was very excited and happy. Her rating on this scale she says she gives it a 5, jokingly, she says if it was one to ten, she would give it a 20. I schemed through it and its actually very useful. She has been using it while watching her korean movies and she understands it clearly now.

This books comes with a CDROM containing the SCTP reference implementation by the authors. Most of the book discusses what the RFC2960 already describes. But Chapter 14 contains a nice explanation of the code on the CDROM. That in itself makes the book worth buying.

There are other items explained better in the book than the RFC. If you are woriking with SCTP protocol, then this is a good book to have.
