This is the 2nd, updated edition of the popular volume. Its 400 pages feature more than 750 nice black and white photos and a 16 page full color section. There is adequate text to accompany the photos, and it is fully indexed to aid in item location. All major levels of scouting are featured, along with collectibles, council listings, glossary of terms, memorabilia dealers, collector organizations, museums and reference works. It's an essential guide for scout collectible enthusiasts.

Greetings, well, it is back, bigger and with lots more photos. What has become the identification and price guide for scouting collectibles has been doubled in listing size as well as photographs for ease of identification. While weekly auctions may be skewing the price system, it is a great starting point. The Merit Badge section, and the book sections have been completely revised.

What a great resourse book. A must have for the avid collector or the novice. Besides collecting, it is a great companion piece to learn about the Boy Scouts and 20th Century Americana in general. I commend Mr. Cuhaj for all the work and time he put into creating this. I'm so glad some one thought enough of me to make this a perfect gift for the Scouter who has everything.

This is an excellent book for anyone who collects Boy Scouts of America memorabilia such as insignia, pins, books, Order Of The Arrow, just about anything that has been involved in Scouting. It details many items extensively, and provides price ranges based on condition. The first edition did not have an index, and it was rather difficult to find certain items, but Cuhaj corrected that in this second edition. The magnitude of this book is tremendous, providing over 11,000 listings, most with values for buying, selling, or just trading. There are a few pages in color, while the rest is in black and white. I would have preferred all items in color, and would have been willing to pay more for the book. If Scouting memorabilia is your forte, I highly recommend this book with a 5-Star rating.

The first edition was the answer to a new collector's prayers and the release of the greatly expanded second edition was timed perfectly to take me to the next level in this increasingly popular field of collecting. This book brings together a broad range of information that earlier had only been available to collectors willing to seek out a daunting number of specialty publications, usually at considerable cost. I would highly recommend this new edition not only for beginning collectors, but also for the more advanced collector who needs a broad reference to the panoply of Scouting collectibles. Finally, I think most readers will enjoy the author's personal touch, including images from his boyhood Scouting experience. They certainly evoked fond memories of my own early Scouting days.

I recently purchased this Bible for my mother's 80th birthday gift. She is very happy with the quality and the giant print. I couldn't believe that this Bible was of such high quality for the very reasonable price. Thank you for keeping the cost within the means of so many people.

This is a good quality product. The letters are large and easy to read. It has a good concordance and the maps are excellent. This Bible also includes an overview of each book, located between the concordance and the maps. Footnotes are minimal. I am well pleased with my purchase and enjoy using this Bible.

VERY LARGE PRINT - This NASB Giant Print Reference Bible is one of the few Bibles that truly has a very large typeface. Those with some sight impairment will be able to read this Bible's 14-pt type easily. *Large*-print Bibles use a smaller type, 9- to 12-pt type, depending on the publisher. And most of the other so-called *Giant*-print Bibles use a 10- or 12-pt type, which is still too small for someone who's vision-impaired. If you prefer an even larger type, you can get a 16-pt type KJV, NKJV, or NIV Giant Print Bible - like the KJV Super Giant Print Reference Bible or Nelson Classic Giant Print Center-column Reference Bible.

FAIRLY LITERAL TRANSLATION - A modern-day fairly literal translation, the NASB is reasonably easy to understand (compared to the KJV) and makes an *excellent* study Bible.

THE COVER - Since the cover of this Bible is bonded leather, it requires gentle handling, as it is not as durable as regular leather. However, if treated with respect, this Bible should last for many years.

First, I have to say that Amazon packed this Bible so carefully that I don't think I ever received a book or Bible (and I love Bibles) that had been triple plastic wrapped like this one. Yes. The Bible itself was wrapped/sealed in plastic, then the box it came in was sealed in plastic, then this box was sealed to a cardboard sheet inside the shipping box it came in. Totally thrilled and delighted.
I highly recommend this Bible for those who are looking for, what I consider one of the best Bible translations out there, and easy-to-read giant print, which makes for a lovely time reading God's Precious Word.
The craftsmanship of the Bible is also very wonderful; I love it.
A true treasure, and I am confident for many years of use.
What an enjoyable experience buying this Bible from Amazon.

The book treats "incr-tcl/tk from the ground up," as it says. But tcl/tk is very high programming ground to begin with.

Brent Welch's books are outstanding starting points in tcl/tk. Further, I stumbled on a CDROM with the tcl/tk/iWidgets manual pages in html. The CDROM has enabled me to play with iWidgets without wearing out the paper pages of this valued book.

In short, this book SHOULD be supplemented in a hoped for second edition.

the author guides you through how to develope object oriented software in Tcl (using [incr Tcl/Tk] extension).

it was well written, and easy to follow. examples are well explained, including why certain things are defined/designed from his perspective.

the book covers OO programming in Tcl and Tk, debugging technique and even integrating [incr Tcl] with C/C++.

the font size and layout is also easy on the eyes and definitely helps towards providing a good read.

Be sure you want a book on the INCR extension of Tck/Tk !

Be sure you know Tcl/Tk and want a book on the INCR extension of the language!

When this book arrived, I found the subtitle "From the Ground Up" was misleading to a Tck/Tk-know-nothing like me. The first two examples in the book were impenetrable on a line-by-line basis, but only because I have no Tcl/Tk background to understand the keywords and parameters. What the examples were about was clear from the good choice of variable/procedure names in the code, but since I don't know and can't find out what "wm", "pack", "deiconify" do exactly, and what parameters they take, that was the end of the book for me.

Had I known (more than?) a few Tcl basics, I may have kept this book. If you already know Tcl/Tk, this book is probably great for going on to the "[incr]" version of the language. I just don't know if the extensions are important yet. My planned use for Tcl is probably on the fringe.

The book itself is a nicely massive 4 lbs (according to my bathroom scale - so give me slack of +/-1 lb at least!) There is no CD-ROM with the book...

This is NOT a book larded with mostly-useless screen shots to bring up the page count. All 746 pages look like they are full of good info, with probably only one diagram for every 25 pages. The text has about a 50:50 mix of code:explanation, there is a huge reference section (appropriate for this kind of book) and a 20-page index. The book measures 7&3/8" wide, 9&1/8" tall, and a nice 2 inches thick.

Browsing the table of contents, the first 13 chapters cover the sort of practical subject matter I'd want to know about AFTER being familiar with Tcl/Tk; the mind-set, orientation, and approaches to using the language to get something done, but certainly NOT from a simple Tcl/Tk syntax and reserved words standpoint. (That's what I wanted, though). The 14th chapter is nearly 1/2 the book and is a programmer's reference for the Iwidgets. Each 5 page (on average) Iwidget treatment looks like JUST the sort of complete and detailed info I'd want. The Iwidgets look like all the sorts of things I'd want if I were developing windowed user applications.

I may buy this book after acquainting myself with Tcl/Tk: browsing the book has interested me in using the [incr] extensions - but only if what vanilla Tcl offers is too rudimentary.

I do NOT agree with the statement on both front and back covers: "Open This Book as a Novice and Finish It as a Pro". I have programmed in most languages for over 30 years, and this book wastes NO TIME going over what a novice needs to know. I'm trading down to an introductory book. But I may come back!

I very much agree with the book's cover when it says: "The Accelerated Track for Professional Programmers", I concur with that view. But "From the Ground Up" and "Open This Book as a Novice..." are simply inappropriate on the cover of this book. The word "lies" comes to mind.

I'm almost tempted to read some web tutorials on Tcl and keep this book, but I can flip pages to review and reference material much faster with hard copy, and probably won't need [incr] extensions for my project.

Not a great book but it's the best we have on iTcl.

I admit right off that the book is well written but it fails in two ways. As an introduction to object oriented programming it is ok. But for those familiar with oop it is a verbose intro to iTcl and those subtle areas that really need attention don't get it. I would go as far as to say it misleads naive readers on some oop concepts by oversimplifying them. The second failure is that half the book is just a repeat of iWidgets reference material that is already available. What we sorely lack is a useful manual on iWidgets that adds real value. The book could have been 1/4 as thick as it is. The reason I own and use the book is that when it comes to iTcl there really is no alternative. But a better intro to iTcl is found in "Tcl/Tk Tools", written by the creator of iTcl, Mark Harrison. However, that intro is sadly out of date now. I would encourage Chad Smith to "finish" the book by writing a second volume concentrating on the use of exisiting iWidgets and the creation of new iWidgets.

This book is superb technical writing about a rather abtruse subject. The author anticipates the readers' questions and even the likely error messages when using the online code examples. Beautifully organized, written and edited... it's hard to imagine a better introduction to object oriented programming. Chad Smith should quit his day job writing code and write more books for us like this, perhaps a sequel with 4 or 5 extended [incr Tcl] project examples.

I bought this Bible as a gift for my wife. I was looking specifically for a slim-line Bible in the NASB Version. I found that in this Bible. It also has the thumb index marking the beginning of each of the books. However, in the description, it never mentioned a cover for the pages. This is great for keeping the pages protected and keeping the Bible closed in a bookbag, purse, etc. However, the cover flap uses a snap which, when you are trying to snap it shut, indents the first few pages with the snap outline. That sort of wrinkles that spot on the pages, which is disappointing. If it had a magnetic or simple slip piece, it would have worked much better. Other than that, it is a great Bible. Please note, the text is small, but not difficult to read.

My last bible was a Broadman and Holman NAS(1977). It was the bible my sister gave me in high school, and that I have used for the past 2 years since I accepted Christ into my life. When the binding broke a few weeks ago, I had to find one just like it.

After searching, this was it: Blue bonded leather, updated NASB(1995), compact size, indexed(tabs) [even has one for the concordance], red letter, and has crossreferences. It arrived today, and I love it. This is a smaller bible, and the others are correct about the small print, but I love it.

The only thing it does not have is a bookmarking ribbon, but this bible is very much worth the cost.

Wow, I just put it with my journal and it is the EXACT same size.

Colorful Pictures Do Not Make A Great Book

Granted, the color pictures do make for a nice book, however, I found many of the pictures to not show the pattern clearly. Sometimes it was the item they chose to show that caused the difficulty--patterns on cups, candlesticks, and vases do not give me what I need to see to verify the pattern on a bowl. I believe a bit more variety of pictures is need for many of the patterns. I would rather see a picture of a collection with a clear detail of the pattern. As far as the price guide goes, at first I found it inconvenient to flip to the back of the book to check the prices, but I got used to it and put up with it. Carnival glass resources are few, so this book is out there, but in my opinion, it's not a great book or a good value.

This is a handy tool for finding the definitions of some words that are in the NASB but not in the KJV. However, even though I study in the NASB, I still like to look up words in the original Strong's (KJV version) concordance from the KJV. The original Strong's has definitions that are MUCH more thorough, and I get a lot more information from the Strong's than from this NASB concordance.

I have the Strong King James Concordance and wanted an NASB to supplement the words that are different.

I opened the box and thought I bought the wrong book. The King James concordance is 2.75 inches thick; this one is 1.5 The paper is as thin as Bible paper, very fragile. The words of Christ are not red.

But THIS is the problem: 1 line, bare bones definitions. For example, I am in a John Bible study and learned that the word for 'signs'(semeion 4592)in John specifically means 'signs and wonders to prove Jesus's divinity'. It isn't used in that sense in any other book of the Bible. Look up semeion in the King James concordance and the listing goes on for several columns with it's specific uses described in a variety of passages. Look it up in this book and you get the definition - "a sign". Word after word has nothing more than 1 line of definition. The entire Greek dictionary is only 76 pages.

How the reviewers said this is a wonderful tool is beyond me. You'd get better definitions looking them up free on the Internet.

It allows you to see for yourself the original word and the ways it has been translated and the number of times it has been translated that way.

I don't use Strong's Concordance anymore. After years of classes in the Biblical languages I don't need it. However, for years while in college when I was first beginning serious study of the Bible on my own and encountering different theologies and interpretations of passages, Strong's was my daily companion. If you don't have the luxury (or for some the burden) of having studied the Biblical languages, but you want to begin to do serious study of the Bible on your own, then there is no real substitute for Strong's. There are plenty of other very helpful reference works, but nothing fills the niche that it does.

Now that my wife has begun study like this on her own I enthusiastically bought this for her. Happily, Strong's has been updated so that Bible students are not tied to the King James Version as they once were. I am not at all suggesting you give up other word studies or helps or commentaries, but Strong's is an important step towards serious, independent Bible study. If this is where you are at, then make sure Strong's is one of your frequently used reference works.

Kaizen Desk Reference Standard shows you how to do Kaizen. Besides the the actual steps, it provides examples and contains forms and tools to tailor to your workplace for implementation. It's more helpful than most training I have been to. What I like best is that it points out the traps you could fall into and how to avoid them. It sets you up to succeed and make REAL improvements.

The authors have performed a great service to those wishing to make improvements in their workplace by eliminating waste and improving efficiency. The Kaizen Desk Reference Standard provides much needed detailed information about the process and the approach to make those necessary improvements.

This reference for conducting a Kaizen event is full of very useful worksheets that structure the event. A detailed example of a simulated project is thoroughly documented providing completed worksheets demonstrating their use. Of particular interest, the text provides tips that are generously scattered throughout to help those with little experience to prepare for handling the road blocks that often occur in implementing change strategies. There are many forms that provide structure in conducting meetings, brainstorming sessions, documenting improvements, tracking changes, and taking corrective actions. As a bonus, the accompanying CD provides the templates of these forms either in PDF, M/S Word, or M/S Excel format. These useful templates are very well structured and apply to many improvement tasks attempted in the development of a high-performing organization.

Many of the resource tools demonstrated in the text apply to those trying to implement LEAN in manufacturing applications for the first time and serve to help structure a strategy for doing so. The step-by-step process demonstrated in the text combines many of the organizational and team leadership strategies to identify sources of wastes, develop process flow charts, handle team dynamics, developing consensus, identifying root causes, and documenting gains. Also, the text stresses the need for standardization of processes and the commitment of management in the process of change. Standardization requires accountability and responsible leadership in which there may be reluctance to adopt.

This text is a must read primer for anyone attempting to lead a Kaizen event or attempting to make changes within their workplace to foster the development of a high-performing organization. The step-by-step approach demonstrates a strategy that should yield greater success on the first attempt. Anyone involved in recommending change, should keep a copy of this text on their desk. It is easy to read, if full of examples, and is accompanied with a very useful selection of forms available to use for process improvements.

I would like to extend my thanks for a job well done.

I purchased this book thinking it might be of some help but I was really surprised to find that it does tell you step by step on how to do a kaizen event. I can tell the authors put a lot of work into this. They have made the process really easy to follow and they have included a CD with tools you can use. I love it and if you are looking for the real deal here it is.

For those readers who do not have knowlege of either Hebrew or Greek, this is generally considered the most accurate of translations available. But be prepared for uncommon style. The NASB is more readable than the KJV, but similar to the NKJV, although it draws on more eclectic manuscript evidence. The Lockman Foundation is the proprietor of this translation and has retained the faithfulness of the 1977 version, while updating the archaic remnants of the NAS (1901). The Smyth-sewn binding is a rare commodity in bookbinding these days, providing a long-lasting, quality book. Black letter version is increasingly harder to find, and this is a plus as well.

For quite some time, I have been looking for a side-column reference NASB Bible to replace my RSV Bible. Generally, I am pleased with my purchase; however, if I were to design the layout I would slightly reduce the size of print, provide wider margins for making personal notes, and reduce the page size to 5-1/2"x8-1/2". The overall format and presentation of information is quite acceptable. Of course, if Foundations Publications or any other publisher would incorporate my preferences, I would probably be interested.

I returned this item - twice- and still have not gotten a refund! The sample pages on the website show a wide margin which is the reason I wanted this Bible. Amazon sent me the item --twice-- and neither Bible was wide margin, even after I explained my specifics over the phone to their representative. I finally got what I wanted at my local Half Price Bookstore! The Amazon web site, in my opinion, is misleading. Meanwhile... where oh where is my refund?

Great quality Bible; reliable translation

The production of this Bible is very good: smyth sewn, durable materials. The paper could have been slightly higher quality to avoid all shadowing, but that would make the Bible a little thicker and more expensive. I wouldn't mind that, but some people would. The print size and letter style is ideal.

One quibble: I would have preferred that the footnotes be on the spine edge so that the actual print wasn't too close to the crease. Or move the print about a quarter of an inch more away from the spine so all the printed area lays on a flat plane.

OK, one more quibble: A paragraph format would be superior to the verse format. Or, better yet, provide both formats and you'll see which is more popular. The old verse format is alien to modern English printing and reading, and is just another unneeded KJV holdover. Actually, I believe that the NASB marriage to verse format has killed its popularity since its inception. You'll notice that popular modern Bibles all have paragraph format. Note to publishers: It's 2007!

The text is very conservative which has its pros and cons. I wonder how the translators justify translating the Hebrew word 'alma' as 'virgin' in Isaiah 7:14, but as 'maiden' elsewhere. The rendering in Habukkuk 2:4 of 'faith' would better be 'faithfulness,' as a variety of commentators note. I think that the practice of translating the OT based on information from the NT is disingenuous; let the OT renderings stand on their own. If a conflict exists, then so be it.

Having said all that, the NASB is overall very reliable for accuracy, word order (such as any translation from another language can be), and uniformity. No liberal "corrections," The footnotes in this edition are awesome, giving some more literal renderings and other helpful information. Also, the NASB isn't littered with run-on sentences like you find in the ESV. The translators used proper sentence structure. Everyone should have a copy of the NASB, and this one is the most readable and useful (because of all the footnotes). 4 stars.

A very fine Bible at a very reasonable price .......

I am very pleased with this Bible. (I have the blue hardcover editon.) Having the references in the side column is a wonderful idea! It makes reading a pleasure. Add to that the single column format, and we definitely have a winner! My only regret is that I didn't save up for the leather bound editon. :) BTW, the NASB is an incredible translation. If you're accustomed to the NIV, give it a try. You won't be sorry. J. Swartz

This is a great version of the Bible and it is very compact and easy-to-read. I took a copy of this Bible on a recent trip and found that it was the perfect size for traveling. Smaller versions would tend to be much more difficult to read.

I truly enjoy and appreciate this particular translation of the Bible. However, I would hope that anyone seriously considering which Bible they should choose would speak with a trusted and knowledgeable friend or clergy member, rather than depending on Amazon.com reviews. If that is not possible, I strongly recommend this version or the New Living Translation. Both are very readable and diligently translated.

The size of this particular publication is perfect. I like smaller Bibles because they fit well in my purse so that I can take them anywhere. This one fits the bill well. The paper quality is higher than most "compact editions" I've come across lately, as well.

how can you rate the bible?! ;)

Just a quick fyi - this version is an Anglicized translation of the NRSV - that is, British English. This might annoy some people.

Though it's not stated on the cover of this Bible, it is the Anglicized Edition. I don't mind, but I didn't realize it until my order was delivered and I had actually opened to the title page. (This refers to the paperback edition.)
