Ecology, Theology, Community

In Daniel Deffenbaugh's book, he combines these three elements -- ecology, theology, and community -- with ease. As he narrates
his own journey from an early life full of doses of "Walt Disney and suburbanism" to living on a farm in East Tennessee, Deffenbaugh
maintains a strong theological argument (28). He draws on historic theology, but he mixes it in with his own experiences of
hard-scrabble sustainability and quiet worship in the fields.
He writes about his gardening experience of "holy listening." And he lays forth a "theology of place." Deffenbaugh makes a faith-and-health case without ever really talking about faith and health. For him, ecology and theology are as interwoven as our bodies and spirits. I recommend this book if you are looking to make sense of our natural world and God. Deffenbaugh provides a road map for developing one's own theology around these issues.

This book is a great survey of the many different factors, both internal and external, that go into being a successful language
learner. As a long-time language teacher and ivy-league trained researcher, I see so much work done on these issues that is
only written for the eyes of other researchers, but this is very accessible to the average person (teacher, researcher, or
even adult planning to study a language) while still being a scholarly work. It gives lots of food for thought, and while
it does not claim to have "proven" any causality (no research does), it does offer a lot of opportunity to incorporate findings
into practice. From there, it's up to the reader to figure out the combination to one's own mental safe, per se. Kudos to
Griffiths.

Great work, dad and others! This is an excellent piece of work. It clearly presents the exciting emerging fields in the logic
application to databases. I especially enjoyed the part about XML extensions. I think this book will cause many people to
sit back and contemplate the meaning of their lives as they soak up all 456 pages like a sponge.

Ilan Stavans deserves to be better known. He is a brilliant thinker whose knowledge knows no boundaries. I am reminded of
his compatriot Octavio Paz when I read this series of interviews. He is the kind of person who can get the reader excited
about exploring new works and new worlds. Highly recommended.

I find the book very helpful, especially the Matlab code. I am not using the mechanics portion at this time. I would like
to see toolboxes on plates of all shapes treating frequency, deflection and stresses for all the usual boundary conditions.
- That would be a good sequel to the book.
I am a mechanical engineer working in the aerospace/defense sector. I recently attended an introductory Matlab class. I really liked Matlab, it is a powerful tool. I was looking for more material to read and books which combine Matlab with mechanical engineering. This book did that very nicely.

Michael Trott's GuideBooks are an invaluable reference for the serious Mathematica programmer. The unsurpassed symbolic computation
engine, superior programming paradigms, lightning-fast numerics, and state-of-the-art visualization can justly be considered
four of the main pillars of the Mathematica system, and Michael Trott, himself a well-established and renowed expert programmer
at Wolfram Research, provides the most in-depth coverage available in these areas. Unlike the contents normally to be found
in a numerics book, this numerics GuideBook includes several methods and principles from other fields of mathematics and programming.
This GuideBook is truly astonishing in terms of its breadth. The material is highly relevant for the ambitious numerics programmer,
and the writing style is very readable, fluent, and consistent. The structure of the material is logical and break-free, and
the examples are very well-chosen.
Several elucidating examples also further the knowledge about the mathematical or physical subject matter itself. Just to mention a few, I was amazed to discover that magnetic field lines of stationary flows are NOT closed in general, and some examples of modern mathematics and physics literature are used in contrast to classical physics, such as the continuous time random walk on a graph or quantum carpets in a solution, which provides an interesting classical vs. quantum variant. And next to textbook examples the reader will find many "real life" examples interspersed throughout the book as well, which makes the results quite "tangible".
Michael Trott includes a great comparison of Mathematica's superior compilable machine precision arithmetic (bytecode, instead of machine-code compilation), high-precision arithmetic, and interval arithmetic, all three of which are needed frequently depending on the numerics project at hand.
Needless to say, the book shows a profusion of carefully chosen graphics that help understanding the matter or result instantly. Here Michael Trott's expert ability as a graphics programmer is indispensible.
All references are hyperlinked through their respective DOI numbers. The DVD contains the texts and inputs of the other three GuideBooks as well.

I found the book to be very clear, and gives just enough of an explanation and examples to get one started and exploring.
It certainly does not lead you by the hand, yet the author manages to pack in a lot of information. I found it to be one of
the best introductions to Mathematica and higly recommend it to any science or math major.
