One day my uncle bought me this for my birthday. I was completely new to webpublishing and had never built a (good) website before in my life. Jonah Neugass explains the material so well a complete beginner like myself could become a master website builder in days. Thanks Jonah and keep up the goodwork!

A very good book for beginners, good illustrations

I bought this book because I flipped through it in the bookstore and found it to have illustrations unlike all of the other HTML books. It explains step-by-step, picture-by-picture how to design and publish web pages. A must buy for beginners. It is very clear and very easy to understand.

Don't let this book go out of print!

I wrote the review "Not Just for Kids" in 1998. After I learned how to create web pages (thank you, Christoper Lampton!), I built on this new knowledge by analyzing the code in other websites, reading other books, and expanding my skills through practice. Now I teach workshops for adults and I'm in my fourth contract year as a teacher in our local homeschool assistance program, teaching both writing and Web site design (www.kimn.net)--all thanks to HOME PAGE. Who knew? This is THE book to get your child, or for yourself, if you want to know how to create a Web site with graphics, photos, and text, with links galore. My youngest son at age 9 picked up all the basics from this book, and two years later at age 11 is proficient in Visual Basic programming language and devouring C++ books. I hope the publisher reconsiders and reprints this book so it DOESN'T go out of print. There's NOTHING as inspiring, as simple, as concise, or as clear as HOME PAGE by Christoper Lampton. ~Kimn S. Gollnick, www.kimn.net.

I have seen books, and I have seen covers, but this one puts them all to rest!!!

When I get the book, I'll talk about the inside, but the outside looks great!!!

who says you can't judge a book by it's cover???

For two years I've wanted to make my own web page, but I didn't know how. This book by Lampton takes the mystery out of web pages. If you can type, you can make a web site, following the clear instructions in this book! Especially helpful are the side-by-side graphics showing how the typed page looks (the HTML code and text you type) and how it appears when viewed with a browser like Netscape (and how it will appear on the Internet). Using this book, I set up my first home web page in just two hours. EXCELLENT book!

This book went step by step from knowing nothing about writing a web page to making a quite complete up-to-date one. And all from scratch, needing only a text editor such as notepad. Links to graphics, various plug-ins, and other helpful downloads are provided. Lots of clear, very helpful pictures are used. I could have had my first page up the next day if I had had a server available

This book is great for people just starting out in HTML. It takes you step-by-step through the basics of creating a great web page. The book provides in depth description along with colorful examples. It also provides extra pointers, along with links to helpful web sites. This book took me from knowing nothing about HTML to becoming a web master of my own site.

As a beginner, learning HTML was a daunting prospect. Scott Arpajian's book, HTML3 was a real FIND for me. Since reading this book (more than once) I have constructed a personal homepage, and successfully completed several college computer courses requiring HTML work. THANKS.

Resently I got an assignment to build a web page but I had absolutely no experience. Fortunately, I had picked this book up intending some day to read it. Using HTML3 as my only source of reference, I was able to build a multi-paged web site with over 400 links world-wide. If it hadn't been for this book, I'd still be scratching my head and wondering how to start.

I was a seasoned HTML programmer a few years ago. Since then, I fell out of the craft and needed a book to start from the beginning so I wouldn't miss anything. This was that book. Examples, references, and meaningful information pertaining to the language. Recommended to anyone looking for a place to start on their own webspace.

I am surprised no one has yet post a review for this one....

Honestly, I just got the book today. But guess what, I've been glued to my desk for 5 hours by now... First of all, if you know what it feels like to have ALL of your questions answered regarding the webpage you're working on then you know how I feel right now. This book is every bit competent as it was written to be - an html "reference." I am no newbie in html but still, I like how the book organize and explain the syntax and methodology of this language. My favorite section of the book was on style sheets, not only did I learn quite a few new tricks (or maybe they were simply not listed in my other reference) but I also found the cross-browser reference very useful. This is a fantastic reference that's full of examples and thoughtful materials. Just so you know, my other reference is the well-know "html 4 for the world wide web" by Elizabeth Castro. I must say it is well deserved the praise and hypes because nothing I've seen can topper this champ for for it's purpose -- it'll get you started in no time. But trust me, after you start programming in html for a while, you'll need a more in-depth reference. well, look no further, this is IT. At first I was hesitated to buy this book because there's no review on it......now I'm just a happy reader.

Dog-eared already.

this book is highly attractive from the start. It's organization makes it look like one of the easiest entry-level books, but it's challenging because it uses the notepad format for writing web pages. This is the best way to learn! This excellent book has a perfect pace; not too fast and not too slow. With easy-to-finish activities, it fits HTML classes into my BUSY schedule! I think this book is worth every penny of the price!

I'm taking an introductory course in HTML at the local technical college. The instructor is using this text. I'm most pleased with it. It's just challenging enough without overwhelming the student. The excercises are fun and practical. While most people these days use web tools like FrontPage 98, my company's computer specialist tells me that a basic knowledge of HTML "from scratch" (as provided by this book) will enable me to make much better use of web authoring tools than people without such training.

I am dabbling in the world of HTML, XML, RSS, Atom, XHTML etc. and I found this book. I rented it from the library and was amazed at its step by step approach to HTML and Web Design and I am now trying to purchase the book (most likely off Amazon) as it seems such a good value for money.

I purchased the hardcopy edition when I was desperate for some training materials. I had been asked to teach an HTML course at the University of Arizona's Continuing Studies Division. This book is terrific, students find it easy to learn HTML as they build on the concepts one by one starting with META tags and following through some basic (but very useful) CSS. Probably the best HTML reference I've found.

At first I thought "10 simple steps" would be too simple to be really effective, but I was wrong -- it's a great approach. I've had the book for about a week, and I've really been able to learn a lot. I've been working with HTML off and on at work helping with some of our company's site pages, but never had time to really master it. The book's approach makes it easty to grab the concepts and learn them, and I appreciate the author's straightforward style. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn or learn more about HTML and web page construction in general. It's a good book!

Perfect for beginners. Breezy style; focuses on right things

I'm a software developer, and spent some time looking at beginner's HTML books recently because my dad asked for a recommendation. This book was my favorite of the ones I looked at.

This book is perfect for newcomers to HTML. The author focuses on all the right things, drawing special attention to common areas of confusion, such as: pairing of HTML begin/end tags; resizing images; alignment of text around images; and so on.

The book starts with super-simple samples. Note: unfortunately, there's a serious mistake in the very first HTML sample! Near the top of p. 28, where the sample has one line which says, "", cross out the "<>", so that it just says, "Hi, my name is Paul Meyers". But don't let this mistake worry you; it's the only one I saw in the book.

The author has a breezy, joking style which I think will work well for beginners, preventing them from being intimidated. But he knows what he's talking about.

This book does not talk at all about fancier stuff like Javascript, ActiveX, and so on. And I think that's a good thing. Those are deep subjects which shouldn't be discussed in a beginning book.

One other problem: The book frequently refers the reader to an accompanying web site, however, that web site is empty! As of this writing, the site says, "Under Construction." Hopefully they'll fix this soon.

This book doesn't miss a thing. Filled with plenty of very explicit examples, Paul Meyers finds a way to bring a virtual instructor into your computer room.

This is a can't miss for the novice web designer!

OFFICIAL HTML PUBLISHING FOR NETSCAPE assumes little prior knowledge of the Web or its tools, yet it quickly brings the user up to speed and creating pages that range from simple and straightforward to jazzy and slick. The style is confident; the information, clear and nicely illustrated. Well worth the money -- and thats even before the accompanying CD with its free software
