A truly wonderful storyReview Date: 2001-08-06
Book ReviewerReview Date: 2001-05-20
Arthur Lyndered, newly titled Baron Sanvrain, tragically loses his arm fighting in the war against Spain. Returning home, he readily accepts an invitation to the home of a childhood friend, Lady Susan Carwell. His intent is to win the hand of her lovely daughter, Charlotte. Charlotte unexpected, carefree nature quickly convinces Arthur his pursuit of marriage is useless. Miraculously, the comfort he seeks can only be found in Susan’s soothing touch. How can a man who is not complete in body or soul ever hope to compete against such a strong and powerful love?
Lady Susan Carwell, newly widowed, is convinced she will never find love like the one she shared with her former husband. She is shocked to realize her heart quickens whenever Arthur Lyndered is near. Keeping her feelings well contained; she is convinced she can never reveal her hearts longing. It would be unthinkable to have feelings for her daughters’ intended.
Arthur and Susan have both experienced unspeakable hardships, it is only fitting they experience a happy ending. The tender way in which Susan convinces Arthur to view his disability is very memorable. Overall, the book is a smooth and tender read, which will not only appeal to the Regency fan but also to any historical reader. I can easily see this book being made into a sequel or movie.

Great story!Review Date: 2003-02-11
***** In yet another thrilling novel, Ms. Meredith proves herself to be a premier writer with characters that are believeable in a situation that could be real, despite its other worldly elements. The unreal situation is presented so matter of factly that it seems to be something that could be true. *****

An excellent primer for young (and old)Review Date: 2007-09-22
1. It is written in crystal clear and friendly language.
2. You will be able to create a web page easily and successfully.
3. You will understand what you did to create the web page (in other words, the authors try to explain what each step accomplishes).
4. The guide is just the right length (not a 1,000 page computer language text) and is laid out in a pleasant fashion with lots of examples and explanations.
5. Once you create a simple web page, the authors gently introduce many other exciting things you can do to enhance your design.
6. This book accomplishes what it promises and in addition it wets your appetite for more!
7. This is a perfect beginners guide for young and old (the prose is not infantilizing or obnoxious)
Buy it and try the examples when you have time and when you do not have a lot of distractions or interruptions--the more success you have the first time out, the more you will want to keep trying.

If you have a read a Jesse Liberty book in the past you know that you are getting a top notch quality product. He's so good at writing tech friendly books it's like sitting down with him. Examples are spaced out well and content is described in a VERY user-friendly manner.
If you develop with ASP.NET and want to implement AJAX on your site, PICK UP THIS BOOK. The only disclaimer is the code is written in VB but if you are a savvy programmer it shouldn't be very difficult to make the switch to C# if that is your flavor of the month.
***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Gentle but Complete Getting StartedReview Date: 2007-10-11
I am impressed at how well-paced and explanatory this book is. Usually the big problems I see in coding books have very little to do with the quality of the code and very much to do with care (or its lack) in pacing and organization. The result here is a book that thinks through and accounts for the questions beginners will have.
The authors direct themselves to developers asking the question "What is the quickest way for me to build real Web applications with the least handcoding?" They stick to that so closely, anyone worrying about the VB versus C# thing should not feel any hesitation on that account in getting this book.
The examples use Visual Studio or its free counterpart, Visual Web Developer. An appendix guides you through their installation and configuration, as well as that of SQL Express.
The book has a nice addition for the serious student: each chapter has a quiz and exercises -- with the answers provided in the back of the book.

A genuinely first-rate resourceReview Date: 2003-03-06
Great for the Beginner and the AdvancedReview Date: 2003-02-25
impressed by its easy intoduction to the topic. My XML
was a bit rusty, but I wasn't a total newbie. This book
has covered all my needs for MathML processing and I have
seen no need to buy any other reference on the subject. As
I have been able to do all my project on the subject without
getting lost, I must really have found a good book
My co-worker, who is much more advanced than I also found
this book very useful as a reference guide and even learned
from the chapters on the various MathML supporting
applications and dynamic web.
Aside from the content, this book reads very well. The
author is clear, concise, and doesn't clutter the book with
personal nonsense like so many other technical authors. As
the users of MathML continue to increase, this book appears
just in time for the early adapters. As a big fan of MathML,
I hope others read this book and use MathML themselves. There
is no longer an excuse to refrain from MathML on account of
a lack of hardcopy documentation.

I was impressed by the author's refusal to glorify Arthur's war career - she lets him mock it and quantify it brilliantly. I have a huge interest in Wellington's Peninsular campaign and what the author has to say about it always rings true. Arthur's resulting disability is handled with grace and tact. How he reacts to it and the impact on his life is very realistic.
I hope very much to see a sequel to this novel. There were some very vague hints in the final pages that Charlotte, Susan's disappointing daughter, had yet to find her way in life and it would be very rewarding to see her develop, guided by her mother and new step-father.
A truly beautiful novel, well crafted, strongly written and highly recommended.
