e-mail trouble: love and addiction @ the matrix, is a miraculous missive from the late S. Paige Baty. Part autobiography, part fiction, part theory, this book is unlike any other. I should note that I am not only a reader and reviewer of e-mail trouble, I am also a character: Sitting in a bar in Northern California, Paige and I began to write a comic book. Where previously we had played at being Maggie and Hopey of Love and Rockets, we re-invented ourselves as Dr. Rocket and Fly-bi-nightly in a world of our own. E-mail trouble is about trying to live, to love, to be in the world. The book is a love letter to Paige's many friends, but it is also an important theoretical work, one that draws on Camus as well as Foucault, on Kierkegaard and Norman O'Brown, Emerson and Pynchon, Louisa May Alcott and bell hooks, Kerouac and Plato. In addition to illuminating the work of past thinkers, she also sheds light on our tired and wired culture, the difficulty of inhabiting a female body, the importance of time and place, of communication and community. Paige was truly an original thinker, a gifted teacher, and one of the best writers I've ever read. Reading e-mail trouble made me laugh, cry and realize how much Paige is a part of me--and how wonderful that is. There is no one I know to whom I would not give this book, I can think of few gifts as great. Paige and I often spoke of addiction--we tried to define it, understand it, conquer it. It often seemed that we came to different conclusions, and we often pursued different paths, but we continued to talk, and to love. I miss my friend. This book is a posthumous present, a tangible reminder of Paige for those that knew her, but also a gift to those that never had the chance. I only wish that there were more picnics in the future.

This book changed my whole way of dealing with email in my professional life. It is THE style guide for email. I read almost everyday about companies and employees who are dealing with many legal, customer service, and management issues with regard to email... they should read this book! AND use it to train their employees! I can't say enough good things about this book and how it has helped me to be more efficient, use effective languange when composing email, and more importantly to know when it is better to just pick up the phone!

Editing With Final Cut Pro 4
By Charles Roberts- reviewed by "Book Worm"
This is one of the best books available for learning about FCP. It is clearly written, and addresses all the issues the beginning non-linear editor faces. The illustrations (mostly screen shots) are well selected and well placed. The material is well organized and treated with sufficient depth so that the reader gains a useful understanding of how and why certain techniques work. The book covers set up, work flow and editing technique in a very clear and complete fashion. It's a great text book, and I find it is also a handy reference too (great index).
Another plus is that the book is not limited to mere technical operations, the author is willing to discuss some of the reasons that underlie an editor's choice of when and where to cut. Roberts' attention to workflow and organization is also quite helpful, as is his willingness to show more than one way to accomplish a given operation or task.
I also liked the fact that the book was not organized around a downloadable batch of clips which you manipulate according to the books instructions. This technique certainly makes the teacher's job easier since all the instructions are quite specific, but I find open-ended instruction more palatable and ultimately more useful, especially if you are already working on an editing project of your own.
The chapters about the nature of digital video and a look at storage issues are full of really useful information. One of the best things about this book is that it will grow with you; you may skip some of the more technical discussions at first, but find them useful as your skill level improves.
Also, this book has a real index, not some computer-generated simulacrum that spots all the trivial instances where a word occurs, but seems to miss the meaty parts where the actual information is.
Although this book is listed as an "intermediate" level volume, as a fairly rank beginner I found it to be accessible and very useful. If you want to get a grip on FCP this book will help you do it.

The book is a very good material for people that does not know anything about these technologies. Covers most of the broadband technologies which is good because is difficult to find everything in just one book. However in some parts of the book needs more editing work (residential broadband). Finally, the latest edition was on 1997, I think is time to release a new edition Mr. Black

I am a full-time network engineer engaged in the development of a global satellite-based network and a part time university instructor.
This is an exceptionally well-written (understandable), thorough discussion of virtually all engineering aspects of Internet QoS. What I like best about this book is its concise, clear, technically treatment of a wide range of Internet QoS topics. For example, the number of RFCs is overwhelming for DiffServ, IntServ, MPLS, Bandwidth Brokers, Traffic Engineering, Policy-based management, etc.. Worse, these RFCs form a patchwork of information. This book extracts the essence of the RFCs and many technical papers on each of these topics, and presents a coherent picture of the whole field. QoS is very much in-flux and this book further adds value by including an 'on-going research' section at the end of each chapter which I found very helpful. Furthermore, the book has very solid technical and quantitative depth.
I strongly recommmend this book for engineers and technically competent engineering managers. For those lost in the QoS field, it gives all sorts of references to RFCs and papers that allow you to dive into a particular area. QoS is very much in-flux at this time. This book is the best of the QoS books (and I have bought a bunch of them) for those needing a technical understanding of Internet QoS.

This is first in its kind book that tackles enterprise architecture modeling with a holistic approach. Book presents a unified modeling approach for enterprise architecture and simplifies the relationship between architecture domains with a simple Meta model. It also deals with communication and analysis aspect nicely.
This does not provide any details about what architecture development process should be nor it gives any insight on choosing an architecture framework. So set your expectation before buying. AS book title says it is about modeling, communication and Analysis.

Excellent reference source with a good number of examples.
I used this in parallel with the book by Shu Lin and costello. While the second one lacks many examples, this one helped me a lot to check my codes using many of the examples given in the book.
