Specific problems and other specialities you wouldn't expect anyway from a general purpose book.

The best guide to FrameMaker 4.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1996-06-12
This after-market book is far more complete than themanual issued by Frame Technology (before Adobe purchase).Unfortunately, it's dated since FrameMaker is now up to release 5.1 or thereabouts. Still, if your company has not yet upgraded, you can't find a better desktop reference than this one. The appendices alone are worth the price. (Hopefully Sierra and Branagan are hard at work on a new edition.)

I went through this book quickly since I am already familiar to UNIX. All majors commands were stated in the book. Chapters are well-structured and the exercises at the end of the chapters will reinforce what you learned in the chapters. Overall, I recommend this book. It could be used as starting point for someone new to UNIX environment.

Chirillo Strikes Again!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-03-06
As a companion with his other title, Hack Attacks Revealed, John Chirillo gives us another great book on keeping our networks away from the prying eyes and stubby fingers of the those out there that don't need to be inside our networks, white or black hatters. The content is very well-structured, all concepts are supported by numerous examples so even if one doesn't understand the subject in it's depth he or she can find an answer to a specific real-world question. They say sequels are never better than the original. This may be somewhat true for this book. This is a VERY GOOD book. It's just that it's not as good as the first volume. It is a lot better...it is so much more geared for both sides of the IT spectrum...those of us up to our necks at the NOCs, and for the SOHO admin who needs juicy morsels for his knowledge palate... I have already started to implement Chirillo's countermeasures from this book, on top of the ones we are forced to use in a government system. Kudos to the author!

If you try to Learn Oracle, this is the way to go. the book introduce you to basic Relational Database concepts also provide you with the Application Express Web Development.

Learn and start with Oracle is a snap with the Book, the samples work great and the Book can be bought for your OS [ Linux or Windows ].

For a while I feel intimidated for so many books on Oracle this surely is the book that will make you start working and administering your first Oracle Database. Medium and Expert users can use it as Freebie and Development Tool.

An exceptional down-to-Earth, easy, fun read
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-09
A sample copy of this book arrived in my mailbox at the university (UofM-Dearborn) where I teach. I began reading it to brush up and enhance my understanding of Unix- and Linux- based systems.

I receive several "sample books" every year, and sometimes I give them a once over and shelve them until they may (or may not) be needed in the future. THIS book was an exception. It was written in a very professional, but often humorous fashion.

I have read a lot on Unix, and some on Linux, and I must say that without a doubt, this is the BEST book I've ever read on the subject(s), period. It has a lot of footnote "Computer Nerd" humor.

So whether you're well-versed in computer science and/or related topics, or you are new to the field(s), this book is a must-have. I strongly recommend it.
