Great introduction to subject for any professional

To come up to speed in a new position within an ASP, I bought three books on the subject. This one is the most clearly written of the three, and would be useful to anyone newly employed by an ASP, or a professional responsible for making decisions on using an ASP. The book clearly navigates the reader between the two extremes of most technology books - which are books that seem to be written for people who have never bought a computer, or books that are heavily laden with computer science/techy jargon. I was truly amazed at the content of the first chapter, which has given me a new perspective on the recent past and possible future of commerce - a real eye-opener.

Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award-winning author of This is the Place, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered and The Frugal Book Promoter: How to do What Your Publisher Won't

In case you haven't noticed, everyone is remodeling. Or building.

"Architecture Fixtures and Hardware" is certainly a book for those who are transforming their lives but it is also for those of us who have decided to stay put. At a fraction of the cost of a big change, modifying the details in our homes can work wonders. "Fixtures and Hardware" gives us ideas for doors and windows, flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, storage and more.

A big book, not quite as big as what we've come to think of as a coffee table book, it is packed with pictures, inside and out, of lovely conversions to fit every taste. Wait until you see the spotless photography by Chris Everard! It's going to make you want to tear up your floors and install plywood (p. 42). Yes, plywood! It "displays a more exuberant grain than ordinary planks and can be cut into much wider boards" to show off the pattern. Now, I can't imagine a more beautiful, money-saving device than that. It's only the beginning for those who buy and browse this lovely book as only Ryland Peters & Small can design them.

Army Men Sarge's Heroes: Prima's Official Strategy Guide, was and still is a great help. I have got stuck so many times in so many diferent levels. But when I have the ability to read step by step on how to beat the level/scenario that you are stuck on, it makes it so much easier and fun at the same time. Army Men Sarge's Heroes: Prima's Official Strategy Guide also gives you a number of codes, tips, and a map of every level and the best route to take. i would recomend this guide to anyone that owns Army Men Sarge's Heroes. Thank you for your time and I hope I have been helpful!

This book is useful and informative, and it stands the test of time. I'd thought it might be outdated by now, but the ideas and concepts are solid and you're not likely to find its material elsewhere.

Book should be titled "Embedded Soup-to-Nuts" (and everything in-between)

As an experienced embedded designer, I picked up this book for some "light" reading. Wow was I surprised!

The author covers the entire gamut of embedded design - even the topics that many of us are afraid to discuss in polite company such as "Disciplined Development", Specifications, Project Management, Code Reviews and the like.

Topics such as dealing with the "real-world" are a must read for anyone doing embedded design - de-bouncing, EMI, and real-time systems (he's not afraid to tell it like it is - don't use an RTOS unless you HAVE TO!).

For those of us who have to deal with fast math, he has some well written (and extraordinarily detailed) descriptions of commonly used functions - tab this section - you'll want it for quick reference!

I wish he would have written this book when I was in school - it would have saved me 25 years or so.

As many have said, but I did not believe until I read this book, the new IBM AS/400 is not the system that it used to be. By the time I finished this book, I felt I had an excellent understanding of how the AS/400 worked, and how it could be used within my business. I would recommend it to anyone.

Really good book. I read it twice and pass the exam with 81% even though I never have seen an IBM AS/400!! I am not a novice in PC , I have MCSE, CNA and A+ certifications, but I really never worked with IBM AS/400. This book is good study guide, writen in good language , in plain English ( as by me)and cover the exam material on 90%.

As a recent College Graduate with little real-world experience managing a AS/400, this book has been very valuable. With the exception of printing problems, most of my daily questions have been answered by picking up this book. While it doesn't go into detail about some of the commands/issues raised, it does tell what redbooks to go to for more information.

I literally owe my career to this book. If there were only one AS/400 sys admin book you could own, this would be the one! Two years ago I was thrown into the fires of AS/400 System administration. This book was the water I needed to put out those fires and become a proactive system administrator. It sits on the corner of my desk and I still reference it all the time. The "Primer" explains the situation in simple enough terms that a beginner will become excited about setting up and working with the AS/400. Then it will take you to the next level so that you can become a proactive administrator rather than a reactive one. I have recommend the "Primer" to friends that are seasoned administrators and they reference it all the time too. I just can't say enough about this book.

The Handbook provides working examples of solutions to real situations you will encounter as a programmer in an AS/400 environment. There are useful explanations and examples of CL & OPNQRYF & CMD that will make you more productive. The application development section covers both RPG/400 and RPG/ILE, including all three types of subfiles. Being able to compare source code for the same application in both RPG/400 and RPG/ILE is a major bonus. A definate plus for everyone still converting to ILE or supporting legacy code. The most useful information from quite a few IBM manuals is in here and indexed for quick desk reference. I coded a complex SFLSIZ=SFLPAG program just using this book.
