As a teacher, every year I challenge my students to choose a musher to track during the Iditarod in March. As they keep track, they also have to read as many pages as the mushers are traveling in miles in order to try to make it to the finish line first. This book is one of my favorite supplements to my program. The kids love the suspense in it. It is a wonderful story that portrays kindness, perseverance, teamwork, and many other traits so vital for kids to learn. This book is an excellent read for anyone.

When I think about dog sled racing, I don't think about who wins the race. I think about the amazing bond that exists between musher and dogs, a bond that is lovingly captured in "Where's the Boss?" While written for children, it manages to capture the attention of the child in all of us, the child who never doubts for one moment that their dog, in the same situation, would do exactly the same. Brave, resourceful Toby, new to his position as lead dog, and Crystal, who finds it in herself to be a heroine, are "every dog" in that sense.

In addition to this universal appeal, there's much to learn from the story. You learn not only of the dogs' bond to their human musher as you read, but something of the trail and mushing itself. Almost without you noticing it, Harter slips in tidbits of info on a wide variety of topics relating to mushing, ranging from the races themselves, to kennel set-ups, dog care before and during races, and the importance of trust and team chemistry. Thus, you come away from what appears a standard children's book knowing much more about dog and human behavior, as well as mushing, than you realize. Just as Joe looks after his team, Toby and Crystal, as well as the rest, instinctively look after Joe, and one can only hope that Harter will share more of their adventures with us soon.

This book is an excellent and practical resource for professionals working in all areas of human service. It is written in easy language with simple steps to follow to implement the goals for any program.

This hard to find book is a Gem! It was published by a small publisher with grants from Eli Lilly and State Farm Insurance...CHADD backed up the effort. There is lots and lots of very useful information.

The chapters include: An Overview of Teen Driving Statistics and Research on Teen Drivers with AD/HD, Behavioral Characteristics and Coexisting Disorders, General Tips for Parenting Teens with Difficult Behaviors, 20 Steps for Parents to promote Safe Driving Behaviors in Teens with AD/HD, Handling Poor Driving Behaviors. The chapter on 20 steps for parents is awesome. Examples of other useful information include: A Driving Observation Form, A Learner's Permit Driving Contract, A Comprehensive Vehicle Safety Checklist, A Driving Skills Checklist, A Driver's License Contract. The book also addresses subjects such as reasonable parent expectations, drug and alcohol use, and characteristics associated with learning disabilities.

The information on medications is outdated. I suspect the medication information is why the book is no longer in print. Every seller who makes this book available is giving you and your ADD/ADHD teen a gift :)

Dr. Castanza's pioneering work provides the first comprehensive study from Alaska of the core issue in the current debate over the charter school system - the need to match freedom with accountability. His objective, factual examination reveals the current down-playing of accountability, traces the problem to the political tendencies which impact the school system, and digs deep down to the philosophical underpinnings of these tendencies.

Milne's biography of Rostow demonstrates the futility of creating a independent state without having any support of the native population. Rostow thought that is possible to end the Vietnam War by merely bombing North Vietnam. The North Vietnamese fearing for their industry would stop supporting the Viet Cong and bring NVA troops across the border and thereby an independent South Vietnam could be preserved. But this theory backfired and the North Vietnamese will strengthened and chaos erupted in South Vietnam. Still Rostow stayed true to his theory and persuaded Johnson to ignore offers of a bombing halt by Harold Wilson, Henry Kissinger, and members in Johnson's own cabinet. The only weakness of this book is that Milne ignores the influence of Thomas Schelling on members of the Johnson cabinet and their decision to bomb North Vietnam. Nevertheless one can see elements of Rostow's theory about bombing in order to create a stable state in John McCain's rhetoric about bombing Syria and Iran in order to create an American backed Iraqi state.

These little nuggets of wisdom are just incredible. I recommend all of Rooney's books on metaphor. Especially if you lead groups- Dr. Rooney often begins and ends each day of teaching with a story.
