A great book in the computer vision field.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-03
Computer vision is becoming increasingly important in several industrial applications such as automated inspection, robotic manipulations and autonomous vehicle guidance. These tasks are performed in a 3D world and it is imperative to gather reliable information on the 3D structure of the scene. This book is about passive techniques for depth recovery, where the scene is illuminated only by natural light as opposed to active methods where a special lighting device is used for scene illumination. Passive methods have a wider range of applicability and also correspond to the way humans infer 3D structure from visual images.

Wether you are a beginer or experienced designer this book is for you. The book tries to give the reader an indepth understanding at how a microcontroller works. It contains detailed explanitions of concepts such as bus architectures and Input/output interface designs. It centers arround the 8096 and Motorola's HC11 microcontroller architectures. Both of which are still in use in many applications. However don't expect a step-by-step guide on how to program a microcontroller, this book is more like a referece guide for Engeeniers and Students.

It is a given that people take design for granted. So it is not surprising that many people have adapted to the rich multimedia interfaces they encounter each day. What is surprising however, is that the design community is only now just reacting to this shift and is struggling to cannonize "E-Design". It would seem that the design world is no different from any other sitting monarch reluctant to budge. If you are diving into 'E-Design', then you no doubt have noticed that the traditional design community fears you. This book was written with you in mind. It is the manifesto to the revolution. This collection of wonderful essays comes straight from the cutting edge thinkers in desgin today--some of them professors, who delight in throwing out references to critical theorists such as Foucault and Derrida. This book is long overdue and I am delighted to have found it as it helps to define the importance of E-Design in the future of design. Natalie Zee's writes, "Digital designers are at the forefront of the industry, those that are helping to define the dicipline, and those that are creating all the innovative interactive experiences...They are Design Technologists."
For all those traditional designers who don't take E-Design seriously, please read this book. As Charles Traub puts it in his essay, "The advent of the computer did not create the technical tangle of multimedia, but rather manifests a pre-existing need in our culture for a more democratic, universal, and diverse way to communicate."

I use this book for new engineers, "fresh outs", or those without much drawing experience. Today, many engineers graduate with great CAD knowledge but a very poor ability to communicate technical ideas on paper. This is an excellent resource so help remedy this problem.

____ In the world of semiconductor memory design, testing and diagnosis, information is scattered in papers, journals of various disciplines. Although text books are available, the coverage is often limited toacademic theories, models and algorithms. The more practical knowledge, unfortunately, have been mistakenly guarded as secret as a whole, although is often common knowledge for years among those in the field.
____ The lack of reference text has always made it difficult for those who are less-experienced to break into the field. Having worked on memory diagnosis as a graduate student, consultant, and independent consultant, I remember the frustration. I often heard others in the field echoing the same frustration.
____ Dean Adams has gathered those practical knowledges that in the past, can only be learned by years of experience into his book.

This is few of industry books with author's real experience and practical issues. The design methods are a bit general in the book, although they provide some guidelines in the design. The introductory contents are pretty good for a circuit designer or researcher to understand issues and best-known methods.
