This is an excellent description of a tried and true process that has been verified through use with many clients. Managing desktop hardware and software assets is a must if a client is going to control cost and ensure that there are no unexpected and costly "true-ups" with Microsoft and other vendors. This book explains how to do it!

I am not an expert or professionally involved in the mining industry but I bought this book for an overview of a particular sector of the FSU economy. It is extremely professionally produced and contains all the information you could want on this particular branch. It does not extensively explore the economy of coal mining in Russia/Ukraine/ other ex-FSU states after the end of the soviet government but that is understandable given the dislocation of the governments in the new states and its detrimental impact on statistical gathering and info. If you are at all involved in the coal industry or just interested in a detailed technical account of the state of the soviet planning/management/development process as seen from a single sector, I would recommend this book.

Quite simply the best critique of mass media ever.

If you want to understand the relationship between advertising and mass media, this is the book you need to read. Dr. Bogart's basic thesis is that media is so central to our lives that its future direction should not be left exclusively to the marketplace. This proposition may surprise some considering Dr. Bogart spent most of his working career as a advertising strategist and market researcher. This book will have a permanent - and prominent - place in your library

Once you have exhausted the user guide for the C64, this is your next step. It will give you all the information you require to get started with machine code. It also explains how to make use of all the ports on the C64. It is possible to use ( or build) a serial interface to hook up to a regular PC. I found the information on the User Port particularly useful for home automation and robotics.

Common Law Aboriginal Title
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press, USA (1989-07-20)
Author: Kent McNeil
List price: $95.00

Arguing with the Empire
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-07
Common Law Aboriginal Title is a highly specialised and impeccably researched book dealing with the origins and sources of land title. It would be especially useful for legal professionals preparing land rights claims on behalf of indigenous peoples, and anyone who better wants to understand the supporting role the law played in the dispossession of indigenous people during the age of Imperialism. This book's importance surpasses that of a mere historical curio, however. It has the potential to secure a more just future for fourth world peoples.

McNeil traces contemporary notions of land tenure and sovereignty back to their historical roots in feudal England. He intricately documents the way in which such notions were used, abused, twisted, perverted and ignored by colonialists in justifying the acquisition of 'savage,' 'unsettled' territory. He comprehensively deals with the international laws relating to conquest, cession and settlement, exposing the indisputable fact that many territory were miscategorised, almost invariably to the detriment of indigenous people. In so doing, he sets forth a radical challenge to the legal legitimacy of indigenous dispossession. He then proceeds to examine the limited recognition of indigenous title under various regimes during the 20th Century.

Common Law Aboriginal Title provides a battery of highly pertinent legal arguments for anyone wishing to challenge existing legal norms. The High Court of Australia borrowed extensively from this book in its ground-breaking Mabo judgment, in which it overturned 200 yeras of racist precedent. This scholarly book should play an important part in any future attempt to liberate indigenous people from the terrible historical hang-over of colonialism.

Warner's book is one of the best I've read on communication in information environments. Written for British university students studying Systems Analysis and Consulting, it is a valuable resource on written and oral communication, and covers team work, interviewing and negotiation techniques, creating and maintaining documentation, and training issues. Especially commendable is Warner's sensitivity to cultural differences in communication and business practice. All in all, an excellent resource.

Ask the experts: A-to-Z for Today's Networks
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-05
I found this book to be an excellent source for virtually any type of communications network question. It gave end-to-end information on every stage of network design, planning, latest technologies and protocols, management, bandwidth, security and VPNs, network migration, IBM data centers, WANs and LANS, remote access, wireless, etc.

I especially liked the way each article seems to be written by an expert in that field, who not only deals with the issues facing every IT manager and network administrator every day, but also in the newest technologies and trends. This book is very helpful in discussing the true concerns of today's corporate infrastructure, and offering real-world solutions. These can be applied to any kind of network the reader may have, or be planning.

I found the Handbook to be an encyclopedia for enterprise networks. It's how-to, FAQ style and opinion/editorial articles get down to the nitty-gritty. Two thumbs up!

Comparative Economic Systems (Dryden Press Series in Economics)

An insightful analysis of the World's economic systems.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1997-08-12
This book explores and compares the different economic systems throughout the world in an easy, almost non-academic manner (it's used in several universities as a textbook.) Mr. Gardner writes in an entertaining and easy-to-understand style, and his explanations are precise and informative. Having been written in 1988, the book still dedicates a good portion of its content to the Soviet communist economic system, which is now a "distant" memory. Still, it's a good reminder of how divided the world was economically and philosophically for almost the entire 20th Century. All in all, a must read for people who want to learn the basics (and a lot of nuances) of the main economic systems of the world
