Save Your Time, Your Security and Your Sanity

If you spend a lot of time on the internet, you probably have dozens of websites you need a username and password to log into. You may be tempted to use the same username and password for all websites, but this is bad for your security. For example, for your online banking account or any site that stores financial or any important information, you should have a unique username and password that is used nowhere else.

The problem is it is impossible to remember more than a few usernames and passwords. More and more websites require a username and password to use their services, even the free ones. It's maddening! So what do you do? You use software that will save and automatically fill in your username and password.

I've been using Roboform for at least 2 years now and I've tried a few others similar programs. Roboform has been around the longest and it shows. It has withstood browser updates and minimal competition.

While Internet Explorer and some other web browsers have the ability to save form information and usernames/passwords, you have no access to that stored information whatsoever, and you can't even tell what is being stored. That is why you may need password management software. Both software will allow you to save passwords and save form information. That is the minimum you should expect in a password manager.

Time-saving Benefits of Roboform:

* Save multiple profiles (Save different information to be filled in - work profile, home profile, business profile)
* Save multiple credit cards
* Require password prompting before filling in information (optional--can be turned off)
* View and edit saved usernames and passwords.
* Go to login url - you can go to the login URL (which isn't always on the main page).
* Choose to have forms filled in automatically or click a button when prompted to fill in information.
* Custom fields (Create custom-named fields (such as PIN) and enter the information you want filled in. Most password managers/form fillers only fills in fields it
recognizes (name, address, city, state, etc.)

Conclusion: I've tried several password manager programs and Roboform simply can't be beat. It is very easy to use and very versatile. If you use the internet a lot, you need this software and you can get it for free.

An excellent collection of thoughful review articles on patterns of ancient trade and exchange. There are nine chapters, covering the Chaco Anasazi (F. Mathien), Northern Anasazi (E. Blinman & C.D. Wilson), Hohokam (R. McGuire), marine shell exchange in N. Mexico and the SW (R. Bradley), Mesoamerican turquoise (P. Weigand & G. Harbottle), Mexico (R. Santley & C. Pool), lowland Maya (P. McAnany), and southern Central America (J. Hoopes). The introductory chapter by Baugh and Ericson provides a good overview of relevant archaeological theory.

Although this book was published over 20 years ago it remains a valuable resource. One of the reasons this is so is most project managers today gloss over project planning and jump right into scheduling. Part of the reason is most PM software packages are really GANTT chart-oriented. The shortcoming from starting with a GANTT chart is sequence and dependencies are nearly impossible to manage. On the other hand, the common tools used for sequencing and dependency analysis are CPM (critical path method) and PERT (program evaluation and review technique), both of which are complex and for most projects are overkill.

This book takes a simpler approach based on the activity-on-node precedence diagramming method (PDM). At 100 pages this book is a focused, but thorough, guide to using PDM as a key part of the project planning process. Benefits include easier identification of schedule compression or simplification opportunities, spotting bottlenecks before a schedule is created and the ability to perform a realistic dependency analysis - all of which will pay big dividends from having a properly planned schedule.

Do not let the age of this book put you off. If you are not using PDM and were intimidated by CPM and PERT you'll be glad you bought this book. I also recommend Nuts and Bolts Series 1--How to Build a Work Breakdown Structure by Carl Pritchard if you are not using work breakdown structures as the start of your project planning process.

Excellent Policy History

In "Angola: The Anatomy of an Oil State," Anthony Hodges, describes, with exquisite detail, the rough transition to a Petro-Diamond economy in the worn-torn nation of Angola since the initiation of several peace agreements spanning the last decade. The book is a new edition of Hodges' 2001 text under a different title, "Angola: From Afro-Stalinism to Petro-Diamond Capitalism." The newer title is much more suitable as the previous title gave the impression that the history of the Marxist state of Augustino Neto is broadly covered, which it is not. The background history of Angola, for the most part, is summarized as Hodges focuses mainly on the last two decades of economic development. There are numerous tables and graphs, the text is well annotated, and it includes an excellent bibliography on the nation of Angola.

The book reads like a non-governmental organization policy paper at times, but I personally adore a dry style that dispenses with any distracting nuances. Several recent developments make this book a must-read for any students of economics and development in Africa. 1) Offshore petroleum and natural gas drilling, especially Ultra-Deep technologies, have rapidly increased off the Atlantic coast. Angola has pressed the corporations involved for a greater share in the development of its welfare infrastructure. Many of these corporations, notably Exxon-Mobile and BP, have agreed to develop the physical infrastructure, but have hesitated providing the manpower (doctors, nurses, teachers, etc.) necessary to staff these enterprises. 2) De Beers, the massive diamond corporation, has recently agreed to form a new diamond mining venture with the Angolan firm Endiama after having been forced out in 2001. Hodges' work in Angola: The Antomy of an Oil State, gives the proper history and context to understand these events.

Anthony Hodges was educated in economics at Oxford. As an associate at the Oxford Policy Management, Hodges specializes in the the post-colonial economies of Lusophonic Africa. He is currently at work advising the Department of Planning and Finance in the Republic of Mozambique.

Current Info on Online Marketing Research Panels
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-06
I just started reading this book this weekend and I have been very happy so far. It's on a topic that almost nothing has been written about, and importantly it is CURRENT © 2006! So much of what little is out there is too old.

Prior to this book I had read `Analysis of Panel Data' by Cheng Hsiao, Andrew Chesher, Matthew Jackson but that book was more academic, and dealt more with traditional panels, and `longitudinal panels' (data that follows a given sample of individuals over time).

Andrei Postoaca's book on the other hand is more relevant for the other 95% of research, which is more often than not conducted Online these days with dynamic panels. Andrei is clear and honest and covers important issues from sample quality to costs/margins.

The book definitely deserves to be included in the serious marketing researchers library.

Thank You Andrei

Great introduction to subject for any professional
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-31
To come up to speed in a new position within an ASP, I bought three books on the subject. This one is the most clearly written of the three, and would be useful to anyone newly employed by an ASP, or a professional responsible for making decisions on using an ASP. The book clearly navigates the reader between the two extremes of most technology books - which are books that seem to be written for people who have never bought a computer, or books that are heavily laden with computer science/techy jargon. I was truly amazed at the content of the first chapter, which has given me a new perspective on the recent past and possible future of commerce - a real eye-opener.
