I am currently taking a course in Information Management and this book was recommended. I waited about a month for the book and was very frustrated. I have only just began to read this book and I can say that it was definitely worth the wait. The book is written in such clear and easy to understand language that it would make you look forward to the next time you open it. There wasn't a topic in my course that I was not able to find here. Apart from the fact that I got this book just two days before an exam, I have no complaints... lol

A must read!

Speaking as a corporate communication professional, I can honestly say this is the most stimulating business book I've read. The premise is that organization leaders must go beyond simply seeking buy-in from their employees to a more iterative, interactive (and, ultimately, much more inspiring and effective) process of continually reinventing the organization. This argument is supported with great examples and enough detail to be actionable.

Highly recommended.

Mary Boone has authored a wonderful resource for implementing a knowledge-sharing culture in the Enterprise. Things to pay special attention to in the book include the ten key competencies for mastering new methods of communication and management, her insightful analysis of trends and obstactles affecting corporate communication, and the way she uses interviews with CEOs and executives to show you how others have implemented effective collaborative strategies.

On the lighter side of things, read her story about "George" in the "Get Over Yourself" chapter. She uses this story to point out how personality differences can be a show stopper to implementing innovation and promoting creativity. Furthermore, she explains how collaborative technologies can help bypass some of these differences.

A Must for Community Practitioners and Univ. Researchers!

In their efforts to effect positive local change, universities have long been directly involved in shaping the community agendas of their local milieu. The same is now becoming true as it relates to improving the local technology landscape. Universities are natural partners in community development efforts given the human, intellectual and financial resources they can bring to bear on problems. They are also logical partners in community IT initiatives for these same reasons, and in recognition of the educational and technological resources resident on their campuses. "Mangaging IT/Community Partnerships in the 21st Century" is perhaps the first comprehensive examination of the critical considerations for community-university partnerships involving information and communications technology. From course partnerships to educational and business partnerships to the so-called "digital divide," this book is a must for community practitioners and university researchers alike!

Being Magnanimous

Review Date: 2007-07-11
There are volumes of leadership business texts that display the subject's photo on the dust jacket - like Napoleon - leaders that thrive on their titantic personalities.

Masterpieces in Health Care Leadership describes quite another type of leader. These are quieter characters subtly investing their time aligning the way people think to the needs of the institution they lead. Pelote and Route have discovered that successful healthcare organizations are lead by more humble characters whose primary responsibility, it turns out, is to find and develop talent, not be the talent - redefining what is meant by powerful leadership.

But their discovery is just the beginning. Masterpieces is chock full of tidbits of immediately adaptable ideas for taking the path to becoming a great organization. The authors create a trail of breadcrumbs, describing the behaviors the path produces. And it could quite possibly be a catalyst for organizations that are up for that journey.

Masterpieces in Health Care Leadership defines how today's great health care leaders spend their day - scouting and developing good managerial DNA through listening and coaching. This book is a window into those leaders methods and outcomes; indispensable for hospital board members looking for future leaders, enabling for current leaders willing to share their power, enlightening for health care providers anxious to pursue personal growth.

Masterpieces . . . is a great work. I enjoyed it. It's really a field book as I see it and I recommend it to my clients. It shows "what do I do?", actionable items and I think that's invaluable for hospital managers that frequently ask that question.

This is an incredible book for leaders at all levels in the Health Care arena. What these 9 institutions are doing should become standard practice through out the industry. I loved the comments by employees and patients. I think I would like being served on a silver platter.

Are you a techie that has been thinking about making money on your own? This is the first technical consulting book that gives you all the information from A to Z in the MCSE business. This book distinctly differs from other consulting books by not just talking about how to be a consultant, but how to run a successful business as a good MCSE consultant. It is apparent that the author practices what he preaches and freely shares his knowledge and experience with the reader. Partitioned into "Finder, Minder and Grinder" routines this book includes a broad range of topics and touches all angles of the biz, which give food for thought in every possible direction. If you are a MCSE consultant or just thinking about striking out on your own, this book is a great reference, easy and engaging to read, full of useful information and thought provokers. My favorites are Brelsford's Rules of Ten, considerations of different market niches, a very well written sample proposal and tons of links to helpful websites. If you want to add value to your MCSE consulting, have a note pad ready while reading this book.

I started my own consulting business and bought quite a few books. By far, this book tells you what you really need to know. It gave me the tips I really needed, not just the "philosophy" but also the down-and-dirty details. If you are looking to start an IT consulting business, even if you aren't into the "Microsoft-centricity" of the MCSE, this book has a LOT to offer. I am dubbing it indespensible for the IT consultant just starting out... AND those already in business.

Great Intro to Media Structures

Review Date: 2001-02-22
This was the main textbook for my Mass Media class at Trinity University. It was a very interesting book which had a lot of good things to say. I had never conceptualized television and radio as a for profit industry with structures governing their behavior just like the steel or automobile industry. The book does not waste tim eon boring chapters full of gory details about this and that medium of communication. It looks at all media as an integrated system. It was a little dry at times, but not to much for me as an undergraduate. All in all I doubt I could have asked for a better book to introduce me to mass media.

This is intended for those responsible in the planning, design, implementation, and deployment of Microsoft Office XP for the enterprise. Customization and standardization of Office XP deployments is what this book is about and critical in rolling it out to 100 or more desktops. For the typical user this may not be of any use, but for application administrators its necessary.

In 11 years of working with computers the one constant in the industry has always been technical support. When you buy hardware or software and you have trouble, whom do you call? Well for Microsoft has put the answers right at your fingertips and it's Microsoft Help Desk.

For less that $40.00 you have an abundance of knowledge written in over 1250 pages. The book covers each and every application within the Office 200 suite, from Word and Excel to Front Page and Outlook. There's even section on general Office 2000 and the setup and configuration.

Complied by Stephen L. Nelson, this book is a real handy reference when you need the quick answer and cannot wait on the phone. Using the Error Encountered method, you are then given several solutions to try. If you don't like reading books there's a cd with the electronic book included.

While no book can account for every situation, failure or error, Microsoft Help Desk certainly makes a valiant attempt to give you as much information as possible. I liked the way the book is technical enough for the advanced user, yet easy enough to understand for the novice.

An outstanding, highly recommended reference.
