Now we know what the near future is: What is next?

The book can be read by any level of readers, may be considered a initiator for the junior logistics managers, while senior managers may use it to update their knowledge with the recent developments in logistics. The book gives good inside about establishing the logistics criteria (K.P.I.s) as well as being a good reference for researchers. It has sufficient amount of statistical data supporting the information provided and the results are integrated with the subjects neatly. I have enjoyed reading it, and found it quite useful for my research and company project.

This clever book is insightful, practical and visionary.

Conventional wisdom tells us that data is more useful as information and information is more useful as knowledge. Now, Marcus Goncalves tells us that even knowledge can be more useful - if it has a plan. Goncalves' latest book implies that know-who, know-what, and know-where are not effective without structured know-how. This clever book is insightful, practical, visionary, and is a hands-on guide to using knowledge successfully so that you are never asked the question "If you're so smart why aren't you rich?" You will gain much from this refreshing book because The Knowledge Tornado is a lot more than just spin.

The Knowledge Tornado does an excellent job at outlining the various aspects of Knowledge Management and the role of the knowledge manager. Particularly of interest is the emphasis on the need for people, organizations and governments to strategically manage and utilise their historical and constantly evolving knowledge to put them ahead of the pack in a turbulent and uncertain economy.

Best Single Resource on Using Groups to Make Change

Think of this as a reference work on major strategies for making change in organizations. Bunker and Alban give clear overviews of well-tested methods at three levels: strategic planning, smaller group level, and individual job level.

At the strategic level, for example, you can compare Future Search, Search Conference, Real Time Strategic Change and other approaches to help decide which might best suit a specific situation.

Bunker and Alban also provide references on each approach, so you can get more specific information.

My only complaint is that there should probably be a revised edition one of these days to keep up with new resources.

Excellent book for practioner and "lay" person alike

Although parts of this book are aimed at the practioner, Bunker and Alban are so clear and straightforward in theory and example that their book is invaluable for anyone committed to innovative, effective organizational learning and growth.

"Laughing at the CIO" gives thorough explanation of an approach that places information front and center in the planning of the IT department. Information is power!

A top pick any business library needs.

Deserving of repeat, ongoing mention is LAUGHING AT THE CIO, a survey for IT executives and professionals catering to them. The focus is on changing technology 'solutions' which never quite seem to address or solve problems: a fable parable teaches information leaders how to identify more effective applications, how to create a workable IT strategy to support strategic goals, and how to overcome common challenges in IT leadership. A top pick any business library needs.

Practical Resource and Reference Tool

"I've found lean-ISD to be a very useful reference tool and resource. After having been involved with CADDI consultants on a large scale application of the methodology at my last firm, I've taken on several recent projects in my new company using many of the methods, tools and templates of CADDI's PACT Processes for Training & Development. The book is designed so that I was quickly able to access the information I needed to provide my clients practical, timely and quality approaches to tackling their business issues. I highly recommend this book as a guide for business professionals challenged by either training and development, learning, knowledge management, or human competence development projects."

"lean-ISD takes all of the theory, books, courses, and pseudo job aids that are currently on the market about Instructional Systems Design and blows them out of the water.

Previous `systems' approach books showed a lot of big boxes and diagrams, which were supposed to help the reader become proficient in the design process. Here is a book that actually includes all of the information that fell through the cracks of other ISD training materials and shows you the way to actually get from one step to another. Guy adds all of the caveats and tips he has learned in more than 20 years of ISD practice and sprinkles them as job aids and stories throughout the book.

However, the most critical part of the book for me was that Guy included the project and people management elements of ISD in the book. Too often, ISD models and materials forget that we are working with real people in getting the work done. This book helps explain and illustrate best practices in ensuring success in ISD projects."

Impressive and consise guide for the future of training
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1997-06-24
As someone new to the field of "training" I found this book to be an excellent reference guide. It may be short, but it certainly is "sweet." If you're concerned with making sure the training events you offer in your company add value to the organization then I'd highly recommend Dr. Brinkerhoff's and Mr. Gill's work.

A must-read for people who lead training activities.

Review Date: 1998-03-01
A must-read for anyone who leads training activities in the organiation. Based on the idea of systems thinking--that there is an interdependency among parts within a system--the authors criticize Training Departments for isolating their activities from their business partners. The Impact Map is an excellent tool for ensuring that training activities are aligned with business strategy and helps internal and external training consultants provide training solutions that add value. A quick read with provocative themes.

This book is wonderful! I am a computer instructor and find any DDC book exceedingly helpful. DDC books are all we use at the college where I teach and my students love them because of their step-by-step instructions and understandability. The integration skills taught using this particular book are amazing. I would be astounded if anyone has a problem learning from this book.

This is the first book I've purchased by this author. The publishing company, DDC, has always produce the best in self-help training and training for in class, as well. This book is the best I've been able find and actually feel like I've learned the various programs. The material is such that you can always go back and review/refresh your skills on how to perform various steps to accomplish your tasks. It reviews the basics and follows with skill building to intermediate and advanced. The instructions are easier to follow and the exercises make you feel like a pro. I give this book 5 stars happily and have recommended it to friends and family.

This book was helpful. It's one of 3 DDC books I've used, and all three have been great. They're not flashy, but their step-by-step style actually makes it easier and faster to learn for the average person. Some of DDC's other stuff--like this and another title I got--is MOUS Certified BY MICROSOFT and will (I hope!) get me ready for the MOUS Certification exam.
