Purportedly tales from ancient Babylon, THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON consists of financial advice that has stood the test of time in the form of fable and metaphor. It emphasizes saving a percentage of ones income, investing ones savings wisely, staying away from bad(consumer) debt, the importance of insurance, and other common sense ideas that most people do not follow.

The book is written in Old English; In fact reading it seems like reading the Proverbs section of an older Bible translation. But don't be afraid of that. This book is very easy to read. I would recommend for a wise, literate teenager or preteen as well as an adult.

If you were studying accounting or bookkeeping on your own or in a college setting, and you made a small booklet of everything you highlighted or underlined in your textbook that you expected to see on the final exam you would re-create this book. I wish I had it when I was preparing for my accounting exams. This book won't make you an accountant, only experience and a lot of hard work will do that, but I'll bet you keep a copy of "Schaum's Easy Outline Bookkeeping and Accounting by Joel J. Lerner" in your desk for the first year on the job.

This book is a great refresher. It is easy to read and works examples in a logical step-by-step fashion that non-accountants/non-accounting-majors may need. This book makes a great supplement to formal accounting training (introductory accounting coursework). It would also be very helpful for someone who needs an accounting refresher (like business education majors who plan to take the Praxis II). Check out the table of content to determine if it meets your needs.

Designed for ambitious, dedicated immigrants seeking professional positons, this practical handbook provides model scripts, asks poignant questions, and shows how to prepare for job interviews. Further, this hybrid book - part business advice and part language instruction - gives tips for success on a job from negotiating terms to preparing for performance reviews and collecting appropriate references.

In a better world, Scripts for Winning Jobs would be the standard text in vocational programs. Directors of VESL programs, workplace training, and career centers should stock this book and recommend it to their solid students. Their best students will have already discovered this outstanding book!

Never be tongue tied at a job interview again!

If you've ever worried about exactly what to say at a job interview, worry no more! This book walks you through a wide variety of job interviews, and helps you anticipate questions you will be asked, and will want to ask. And unlike other books I've seen on getting a job, this one even guides you through interviews with job recruiters, plus how to handle job evaluation and promotion interviews once you've got the job and want to keep it, or advance.

Whether you are looking for that first entry-level job or a skilled position, this book has all kinds of appropriate things you can say about yourself, your training and experience. This book provides not just one but several realistic ways to respond to the kinds of questions you might be asked at an interview. Moreover, they are specifically tailored to each of the many kinds of jobs presented.

Scripts for Winning Jobs helps you sail through job interviews with confidence, and get the job you want. It even helps you through the tricky salary negotiations with expressions that diplomatically get you into the salary range you want.

This book is great for people who speak English as a second language, but is also extremely beneficial for native speakers going through the job search process. You can also buy this book with a set of 4 C-D's . It costs more, but listening to the interviews reinforces your reading and helps put the right words on the tip of your tongue when you go to your next job interview.

This is a casual but deep reflection on the meaning of money. Too often people start thinking about this question as if money were pure greed. To really wrap your mind around such a complex concept find a copy of this book and read it. The antecdotes really bring out some of the more subtle meanings between the way people react to one another, which is the basic role of money. From aztec human sacrifice to modern unemployment there is a connection which explains how society makes difficult choices.

After reading many books on the subject of different forms of business and taxation/liability issues, I found that Bruce D. Bernard's book was the only source that was comprehensive enough for me. This book does a fine job of exploring the details of alternate forms of business as well as summarizing the various forms of business. This book enabled me to do a complete analysis of my decision using my numbers and the facts that were presented in his book. I hope he updates his book soon.

A basic book for understanding Investing
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-25
This book is a basic look at investing money in certain types of vehicles written in1998 which is still current 10 years later. While there are more advance books that give you actual techniques on what to look for, this book gives you the basics on understanding investments. This is a recommended starting place on this subject. It is easy and quick to read.

From the start, Mr. Williamson explains why you should invest your money and some of its myths. He also explains the risks. This sound advice on the stock market, risk, and bonds will help you make you to make the right decisions on which one is best for you.

The other sections describe simply about the vehicles such as:

1. Bonds and the how they are handled and traded
2. Trading stock and what types of them are out there and how to get them. The computer has made this easier.
3. Investing in Mutual Funds where he goes over the basics and the types.
4. Investing in annuities and why they are important.
5. Buying Real Estate and REIT (Real Estate Investment Trusts) where he explains why REIT pay higher dividends and usually safer.

These are the primary types of investments you will encounter on you journey to wealth.

The final section gives you a financial plan where Mr. Williamson gives you practical advice to start planning your investments and what methodology he uses. This helps the beginner greatly because it gets them started on the road to investing. He gives a detailed picture of what investments you should have at which particular time and how much of your investing dollars should go where.

Let be known, that this book is for the beginner who wants general knowledge on these subjects, they are not 100% complete. There are other books that do go into more detail and will help you make a better and sound decision on investing (see my other reviews), which I recommend for you to read.

Before investing however, please note you have to educate yourself, find your risk tolerance and be somewhat financially sound.

Thanks and enjoy.

Evan and Tiffany have done it! From dealing with volumes of daily emails, getting the most from your meetings, preparing your documents and working on shared-docs, this book has put it all in one place. They quickly, effectively run thru the new 2007 MS Office suite, showing new items, like the ribbon - which is the key in all the new Office product tool bars. I found the enclosed CD a great time-saver and a good way to see how Evan and Tiffany put their words into action.
If you are the Office guru in the office and want the jump on your fellow workers (or just want people to ask how do you do THAT in MS Office) then pick up a copy...

No fluff, to the point

Office 2007 introduced the ribbon making getting up to speed a bit more challenging. Our office only held a brief hour demonstration to introduce 2007 to us. What I liked about this book, is it isn't one of those monster Bible/Inside Out books. About 3/4 of an inch thick, it offers brief explanations and tips to get you going on using Office 2007 more effectively and quickly. The book includes a CD with training vidoes, which are nice to view if you don't yet have 2007 up and want to see how it operates or like visuals. The book was precisely what I needed since I was pressed for time and needed to jump in immediately. It is a great starter and you can always buy the monster reference book later when you need to.
