Collection of past papers

Review Date: 2000-02-26
This book is a collection of thier(most of the parts are Merton's) papers written during the past 25 years. The papers are little bit changed so as to be cross-referenced through the book. Also You can find some comments in the book for the recent literatures. As you know, Dr. Merton introduced continuous-time approaches into the finance. This book deals with basic mathematics for the continuous time finance, portfolio selection, option pricing, and theory of intertemporal equilibrium. The value of this book is greater than that of papers copied separately in the library. Also it is a great pleasure to see how his theory has been evolved through the book.

An examination of how business is supervised by directors, the board, the chief executive, auditors and outside regulators and stakeholders. Explores three questions: (1) What types of accountability are desirable, at what cost and for what gain; (2) What are the appropriate roles for market mechanisms, government regulators, corporate directors and auditors, internal and external; and (3) Are current trends healthy or are they taking us down a path not worth pursuing. This is a balanced, highly penetrating and technically rich exploration of complex issues. Highly recommended. I used CGPSO as my primary source for a article I wrote about corporate scandal. I found everything I needed about all the issues affecting responsible business practices post-SOX. Very detailed, full of examples and helpful lists. This one is also good: Financial Statement Fraud: Prevention and Detection

This book provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of corporate governance and investor protection since the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. It is saturated with overviews and details that anyone with even the slightest interest in corporate governance and public companies should enjoy. This would be a great reference for a course or seminar on the subject, and is a must-have for corporate executives, directors, auditors, investors, and accountants.

High Quality Book
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-06

In a highly competitive operating environment in which we live, it is often difficult for a company to raise prices, unless it can differentiate its products and services in such a way that customers are prepared to pay a premium price. Even then it is necessary to produce the best value at optimal costs.

Most companies are price takers and the only area that they have control may be their costs. This is where this book is very handy and it provides managers with effective techniques and tools that they can employ to control and manage costs. The book shows that all departments can adopt best practices to ensure that their costs structures are optimal. Other areas to target for cost control include outsourcing, rightsizing organisations, the use of consultants and elsewhere.

This is an excellent book that is essential reading for all managers who need to learn the techniques, strategies and best practices in reducing costs for organisations. The author reinforces their well presented arguments, proposals and solutions with case studies and real examples that should assist managers in implementing the tips that they would have learnt.

It's Simple

Review Date: 2006-12-07
Two decades ago, I passed the Uniform CPA Examination. The Gleim volume
was one of several review references which aided in understanding the
material. The CPA Exam is a unique creature. It requires that the material
be understood fairly comprehensively. Being familiar with the material
is not enough. A good review text helps to structure the material so that
problem solving is a much simpler task. The Gleim text has a minimum of
complexity yet it focuses on the essential elements requisite to solving
simple to intermediate level problems. The CPA exam rarely tests beyond
Intermediate Accounting in any big way. A beauty of this acquisition is that it can help you learn the material initially and prepare for the CPA exam later. Gleim's presentation is not cluttered with a lot of verbiage.
The lettering is well-spaced with many helpful diagrams and "canned"
schedules so that you can literally "drop the numbers in place" .
The acquisition would be very helpful in studying the material for the
first time or reviewing it just prior to taking the CPA Exam.

If you are tired of reading stories about gold from someone who knows nothing about the gold market, then this book is a must! Jeff Christian and the research analysts at CPM Group are always on point, and the yearbook provides the most independent and objective source of detailed information and statistics on the gold market. If you have gold or are looking to add some to your portfolio, this book is worth every penny!

There's a lot of nonsense published about gold and gold investing. Like any other commodity, ultimately supply/demand dynamics determine the price. The CPM Guide is most authoritative and complete source of information on gold. Really, it provides a foundation for ongoing monitoring of gold market fundamentals. If you digest and analyze the data here, you'll be miles ahead of most people that are trading this market.

Excellent

I found this book to be excellent as far as dealing with debt and money problems. Yvonne Kaye is a counselor who happens to live in my local area and gives many seminars. She writes like someone who knows what they are talking about on the subject because she does know, she was a person who self-describes herself as a person who was in debt, addicted to the spending/debt habit and was co-dependent in it. Yvonne Kaye is direct. She also points out that just because you're rich doesn't mean you don't have money problems! She is also lighthearted and has a sense of humor about all of it. I would recommend this book highly to anyone who is in need of getting out of debt and in a financial bind. M. Wood - AOL Subscriber and Amazon Customer (Wmonica@aol.com) I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with debt

A must if you have money problems.

Quick, practical, innovative approach to CRM
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-23
This book provides thought-provoking and practical advice about how to drive sustainable business impact from customer-facing initiatives. The advice is based on a careful blend of well know frameworks from leaders like Professor Michael Porter and years of experience from the authors and leading corporations. The descriptions of how to use CRM to increase competitive advantage and improve profitability are particularly intriguing, as they elevate CRM from a business initiatve to a business imperative.

The authors have included plenty of examples of real world successes and failures, and hence keep the book rooted in practical and actionable guidelines. I highly recommend this book for CRM novices and experts and for technical and business professionals, as there is important advice in here for everyone.

Customer Strategy "How To"
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-01
Don't let the title scare you, this is book is all about customer strategy--a "how to" book on effectively implementing customer relationship management. Relying on their experience, Bligh and Turk demonstrate how CRM SHOULD be executed--using a customer demand-driven approach. They include some amazing real-world examples from Fortune 500 companies including Dell, Wal-Mart and Pepsi to deliver this point--CRM initives implemented the right way are essential to the success of a business. Failures are covered too as learning opportunities. Chapter 2 has a case study about how Halloween 1999 was Hershey's scariest ever, a fantastic example. Each chapter ends with a "Key Points" summary to make reading easier and quickly review the material. If you think CRM is just software, pick up "CRM Unplugged", it should help change your perception.

Customized Derivatives: A Step-By-Step Guide to Using Exotic Options, Swaps, and Other Customized Derivatives

Loads of Lattice Examples

Review Date: 2004-05-14
Customized Deriviatives does two things that most books on options do not: 1)Provide 2-3 page in-depth descriptions of many exotic derivates and 2)Illustrate the decision process that is required to model these options using lattices. By using lattices to describe the option pricing process, Ravindran avoids producing yet another dreary options book full of equations and succeeds in producing something that somebody with less than a masters in math can understand. This may not be info that an options expert would find necessary but I had fun using this book to throw models together in conjunction with my quantitative finance class. Next to Haug's "Guide to Option Pricing Formulas", this is the most useful options book I own.

The book provides alot of intuition and explaination for a topic that is usually not explained well. i would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in marketing of exotic derivatives.
