I am a seasoned professional who found the advice regarding networking in Savar's book new, useful and quite inspiring. It is hard to network, at any age, and Savar's book shows you in very easy and practical ways how to master this task and maybe even enjoy it! Just little suggestions have proven very helpful, like what side you should wear your name tag on. Who would have thought such a small detail would make such a big difference? I recommend this book for people who want to get back into the workforce after an absence or those in the workforce who simply want to build their network of contacts. Its a great and fun read.

I really enjoyed how this book clearly explains how to strategically build a powerful network to achieve career, business and personal goals. The author clearly demonstrates how you can stand out from the competition when it comes to networking and what to do to be successful.

All of her suggestions were terrific. I especially valued learning about how to create and leverage your personal brand, how to pick networking events that provide the best Return on Networking Investment (RONI) and how to engage and gracefully disengage from conversations with one or more people. I cannot wait to leverage her strategies at future networking events!

As a seasoned professional I found this book an excellent source of reading - not only to refresh my networking skills, but to reinforce them. It's easy to underestimate the power of networking, but the piece on "defining your networking objectives" puts it back into perspective. It reminds you how to make every contact count. If you are a young professional seeking to get ahead, then read this book. The book is a necessary read, as well as an easy guide with practical steps that are so sensible, you will immediately begin to build a network base for advancing your career or even your social calendar.

I ended up looking for another book after receiving this book. It didn't seem to answer any of the specific questions I had regarding Quick books - It seemed to be more of a hardcopy version of the help function online which was a big disappointment. I would look at the online help in the software and if it works for you, don't waste your money on this.

A family (divorce) mediator, I encounter many women who are painfully unprepared for the range and scope of divorce. This book is an excellent prep course and/or wake up call. It goes on my "recommended reading" list.

is Marilyn Barrett. She has so much valuable information to give, and she does it in such an easy way to understand.

Legalistics, to me, always had sort of a frightening tinge, because I thought I wouldn't be able to absorb everything, and therefore I'd get screwed somewhere. But Marilyn has made the most complicated problems easy, and then she gives you examples that are also simple to identify with -- so I was quite able to follow all her practical suggestions.

This book is for all women -- because all of us will find ourselves in at least one of the situations in her book before too long. I'm a small business owner, plus married for a second time, plus I took care of my mother during a long-term illness until she died recently. Marilyn's book brings up all of these aspects of living, offers solutions to problems I didn't even know I'd encounter, and is a book I'll keep on my shelf as a reference every time I have a legal-type question.

Thanks for writing it, it was great. Jennie

This book is not only informative to women, believe me. I picked up my wife's copy, more to see what she'd be doing to me after our next argument, and was totally unable to put it down. My wife was quite surprised to find me still reading it the next AM. I think the information MS. Barrett provides is applicable to all sorts of legal, or potentially tricky, legal situations, and NOT all are gender-related. Although I'm in a good marriage now, (I think), I wish I had known some of the tips she's offering TWO wives ago!

Sincerely, Ed Philhower, Los Angeles, CA.

Here is a book which should be a trusted partner when you have to make decisions which affect your life and security. This book gives you the tools necessary to step back and analyze the pros and cons of situations with much more than the usual emotionally-based outlook. Throughout her book, Marilyn Barrett stresses the joy of taking care of yourself will be worth the extra effort in the beginning of any new venture, be it in business or relationship.

This is a great book! Being a young, modern and relatively "hip" married woman (one who now co-ownes a business with her husband), I decided it was time to educate myself about all the legal stuff I'd been ignoring for years. I was especially intrigued by the author's approach to the legal aspects of marriage/children, property and taxes. These were topics I would not typically view in a "legal" light (hey, my husband handles the legal stuff), and I would certainly never have considered myself at legal risk. Reading this book really opened my eyes about where I stand as far as the law is concerned - Whaddyaknow, I'm considered a responsible, accountable adult! While this may seem like a no-brainer, the stories and information in this book really brought it home that I had better step up and take responsibility for myself. Thanks to this book I now have a clear understanding of the potential legal and financial hazards to which I may be exposed, and I also have the tools to avoid those dangers and make sound decisions that will protect my family from legal and/or financial peril. This is a truly informative and helpful book.

Ruth Stevens' Trade Show and Event Marketing has proven to be a very useful book with many good ideas. As a Marketing representative who has worked in both the Tech Industry and for Consumer Products companies I have had the opportunity to attend a wide variety of trade shows, ranging from annual Comdex and CES shows in Las Vegas, to ECRM, NACS, and GMDC shows around the country. When you are dealing with such high costs and logistical problems at these shows you can tend to feel overwhelmed. But authors like Ruth Stevens have helped to pave the way, making our paths to trade show success a little more pleasant, by way of communicating a thoughtful approach to difficult problems. Good work!

Ruth has hit all the right buttons in this book. As a trade show consultant, too many of my clients focus on the display and event on the show floor, neglecting the pre-show and post-show part of the medium. When you take Ruth's well-documented book literally and plan, promote, you will indeed profit. Especially with proper post-show lead development. I am sending copies of this one to my best clients and prospects.

Specific Trade Show Strategies

Review Date: 2005-11-16
If you are in marketing and you exhibit at trade shows, this book may change your behavior forever. Not only does it provide in-depth information about what trade shows can do and how they operate, but it also explains the financial structure you should put in place to determine whether participating in a trade show is worth your while financially. That may be bad news for corporate marketers who prefer to unpack their booth, buy the coffee and flowers, and hand out literature.
But if you want to turn a trade show appearance into a truly special corporate event, author Ruth Stevens has a game plan for you. Her book includes sample budgets, case studies, expense spread sheets, lead generation forms, checklists, survey ideas and a great appendix listing sources of additional information. It explains everything you need to know about the opportunities that trade shows offer and how you can use them to advance your marketing goals. We highly recommend this book to marketing managers of business-to-business companies who want to start getting solid returns from special events.

I've been working in Futures & Options research for 3 years now, and this has proven to be the best refernce guide available. Terrence elucidates the concepts and mechanisms underlying the treasury bond basis with eloquence and intellect. His other work, Eurodollar Futures and Options, is also a great reference for the shorter end of the curve.

Reading a book on Options Trading is usually a daunting task. While it is true that statistical probabilities, The Greeks and mathematically determining an overpriced or underpriced option all play a part in option trading, in the beginning, this often confuses and intimidates a novice.

Michael Sinceres' book is different. He leaves the mathematics alone. In very simple language, Sincere walks you through the four basic option trades:

1. The Covered Call.
2. Buying a Call.
3. Buying a Put.
4. Selling a Put.

What you may not know is that most brokerages will limit a beginning option traders to these 4 trades anyway.

As if he were sitting at your kitchen table, Sincere actually takes you step- by-step, through each trade. No, this is not a complete treatise on option trading but it is a very good start.

It is true that the key to option success is choosing the right underlying stock. If you have never bought a stock, his book on stock trading would be a better choice. It is also true that options are a form of gambling and anyone who says their "system" guarantees success is probably selling something very expensive.

If you have experienced trading stocks and are looking for your first option book, this would be the one I'd recommend.

although a great intro course (actually there is no need for complicated options strategies because options is 99% stock picking. what you need to do guys is learn general market timing and charting individual issues. in other words, all you need to know is how to trade stocks successfully. If you can't do this first, then you will have a very difficult time if not impossible time in options.) those who need something more comprehensive should go elsewhere. For what it needs to get accross as an intro, this book is well rounded and written.

I agree with earlier reviews that this book is a hidden treasure and worth its weight in gold. I came across Dr Elder's review on this book by chance while searching for trading books on volume. I was impressed by his glowing review (plus Tim Ord's review on the back cover) and ordered the book. Since then, other reviewers have rated this book highly as well.

The author certainly does not disappoint. Although the book is not easy to digest (at least for me), this is because he covers new concepts in analysing volume and trends, and new ways to track supply and demand in stocks and sectors. Each chapter is well-written and Willain's research on effective volume, active boundaries and divergence analysis is insightful. As the new indicators in his book are currently unavailable on most trading platforms, I have been using his free website to access those tools.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. I hope those who are contemplating to order this book have benefited from my review, as I have from Dr Elder's. I also appreciate Willain's sincere efforts to spread the message that new TA tools are required to improve our analysis and trading in the ever-changing market environments.

Finally! How to use Volume in Trading
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-18
I have read perhaps 100 books on trading and many authors point out that the proper interpretation of volume with price action is a major part of improving one's trading results. For me, integrating volume analysis in my short-term trading or longer term investing has been elusive.

One of the author's innovative tools ---- Effective Volume ---- makes the interpretation of volume an easier matter. Effective Volume is a tactical tool that allows us to see what large players are doing so we can be more assured that an expected trade direction (up or down) is real.

It should be noted that the author has developed a unique approach to technical analysis and his various tools are innovative and ground breaking. I have limited my comments to only one of his very original tools (Effective Volume) because the recreation of his other tools are not likely by the typical trader / investor, whereas Effective Volume might very well be.

So, until various platforms offer the author's tools (which I hope will be soon), we need to fend for ourselves. The detailed descriptions, explanations and examples of the wonderful Effective Volume tool make it feasible for some traders / investors to duplicate this tool themselves.

What I particularly appreciate is the author suggesting specific trading rules to be used with Effective Volume, as well as describing the limitations to blindly following this or any other indicator for that matter. Adding this tool and the author's suggested rules to whatever arsenal of technical analysis you already use is very likely to improve your trading.

There are many nuggets of wisdom and the author's personal rules for trading throughout the book, that make this book a rare gem, even if none of the revolutionary tools are used by the reader.

Very good book

This was a great book to help fill in a lot of my gaps in understanding the "whys" behind volume and price moves. The author does a very good job covering the reasons behind market moves including why trends exist, supply/demand equilibriums and different boundaries where expectations of share price changes have a higher probability to increase or decrease.
The technical indicators he has developed are based on these ideas and I can't wait to build them in and test them out in several of the different trading strategies he lays out in his book.
Overall a great book that presents some new ideas and indicators that when understood and used properly will add a lot to technical trading strategies.

Unmasking the Major Players
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-19
Who would have thought that an interesting breakthrough in technical analysis would come from a trader who lives in a small European country wherein the principal language is French? Stock trader Pascal Willain realized that the traditional concept of accumulation/distribution oscillator was incorrectly based upon a uniform volume distribution over different prices. In "Value in Time: Better Trading though Effective Volume" Pascal, in lay terms, presents the accumulation/distribution oscillator corrected for normally distributed volume over different prices. He calls his method Effective Volume. Effective Volume contributes to the unmasking of the smart money, allowing the average stock trader to see the actions of the major market players. And who wants to trade against the major players? Willain's evidence is both interesting and compelling: the genius is in the simplicity. I suggest that to become a more profitable trader, you should understand the effect of volume on price action. VIT is an excellent contribution to the trading literature in understanding volume.

I read Where Have I Gone Right? this weekend. It is simple, direct, positive and easy to read. Frankly, after
spending time working through Bolles's What Colour is Your Parachute?, I wish I had met this book first. Where Have I Gone Right? asks the essential question and demands the critical work be done first - determining who am I? Without actually having done the "gone right" process (I intend to do so)this work gets to point more effectively and adds important dimensions and communication strategies such as reference points and personal allegories -that separate and enhance what Bolles and others have done for job and life seekers. In a very few hours this book gave me the understanding and the positive tools to get accomplishments, skills, values, relationships into synch-- and to help tell my story in a more distinctive and powerful way.

If word of mouth can be a tipping point for a new career and
life change manual-- Where Have I Gone Right? has my word and I will spread it to anyone who needs or wants to hear.

their own. The book can be used effectively in courses on entrepreneurship
taught in Schools of Business (Management), or sometimes in Law Schools.
Some of the book's chapters as 3, 4, 10, and 18 can be assigned in
introductory courses on management. If the instructor does not require
students to buy the book, then the college or university library should
acquire a few copies of the book so that the relevant chapters could be on
a reading list for introductory management courses.

The book has very good explanations of many topics related to
entrepreneurship.  We describe below, a few of such well treated topics.

Many of my MBA students would like to eventually, or right after
graduation, found their own business. They ask many questions about what
legal form should their entrepreneurial venture take. Lane's book provides
an exhaustive explanation of the benefits and costs of several legal
organizational forms:  proprietorship, partnership, corporation, S
corporation, and incorporation in Delaware or in another state. The book
also reports on a more recent legal form entitled: Limited Liability
Company (LLC).

Lane's book provides a well-written explanation of how to evaluate a new or
existing entrepreneurial venture. He describes the ins and outs of
breakeven analysis, simple forecasting financial models, and relevant
aspects of financial statements which the entrepreneur must be able to
understand for his/her own sake as well as for presentation to his/her
audience of potential investors. The book is a good source for providing
knowledge of other topics which the entrepreneur must understand to be able
to run his/her business efficiently. These include the ebbs and flows of
the processes of cash and receivables. Additionally, it provides a
discussion of other business processes. If the entrepreneur's business is
one of producing or reselling physical manufactured goods, then for such a
situation the book provides a good discussion of the inventory process.
Also provided in a comprehensive discussion are the ups and downs of the
liabilities process which has to be monitored closely by the entrepreneur.
The book performs well in providing the necessary understanding of business
processes. It presents its concepts and ideas in a lucid and clear fashion.

Among other analyses, the book offers in-depth analysis of risk management
for the entrepreneur. It discusses and explains the very important
insurance principle. It delves into the types of insurance that are
relevant for any business enterprise: property insurance, liability
insurance, self-insurance,
and specific insurance for directors and officers of the business entity.

Another important topic received a thorough going treatment: valuing the
business. This topic is especially of interest to entrepreneurs who own
their businesses and whose ventures achieved a measure of success. When
success and growth become permanent features of the business the notion of
selling the business to other entrepreneurs or to a large company may
become an option.  Some older owners would like to sell to attain a
comfortable retirement without the pressures of running a business. Young
owners may wish to sell, cash in, and move on to other experiences. Thus a
guide to valuation and selling is a useful part of the book.

This review focused on a few of the many interesting topics covered in
Lane's book. However, it should be borne in mind that the book covers many
more topics of interest. The book unravels its presentation over 310 pages
and 18 chapters.  It contains a wealth of information relevant to the
founding, running, financing and selling of business enterprises. It is and
will be useful for financial advisors and entrepreneurs...

Whether you are starting a business, buying or selling a business, or are just curious about the most important financial issues in doing so, this book is a comprehensive "must-have" guide. I found Chapter 12 (Buy-Sell Designs) to be particularly well written and informative, and believe that this single chapter is well worth the entire purchase price of the book.

I bought a few business planning books over the last months because I am starting my own hair salon. They all had these big lists of things to do, but never really explained why. I asked my brother-in-law, the accountant, for some help, but he gave me the same sort of stuff, which I still didn't get. This book I can take at my own speed while I am on the train. When I did meet with an attorney last week, I had a list of everything that I thought was important that I got from the book. He was impressed and my dream is closer than ever to coming true. Thanks, Marc!

A very clear and practical view of the Balanced Scorecard tool. The text has the right amount of theoretical background and gives very enlightening exemples and advice to those interested in this field. However most of the exemples comes from private sector and non-profit organizations. Little from government and armed-forces.
But in general terms this is an excelent book. I recommend it.

Niven is one of the best authors on BSC. If this administration and communications tool has been hailed as one the best new concepts in the business world, in nonprofit and government administration it can have even more impact. It is a great general introduction, but even seasoned experts will find enlightenment and a great very updated bibliography. Works very well as a textbook for nonprofit management with HBS cases.

Balanced Scorecards make lots of sense for the For-Profit world for which they were originally developed. What makes this book so good is that they have concentrated on what makes Non-Profits different and how to conceptualize how the BC works in that arena. The book is well written and easy to understand. It is a must for all non-profit execs.
